Chapter 1
From the age of 10, Amaya was alone, she didn’t have friends to play with as she was homeschooled, she spent her days in her bedroom until one day a bird would fly to her window every morning at precisely 8:00AM.
It wasn’t just any bird, it was her all time favourite, a Bluebird.
She had her mother buy her books about birds, but more than anything she wanted a book relating to Bluebirds.
You could tell it was her favourite as her other books were covered in a small layer of dust on her bookshelf yet not a single piece of dust could be found on her book about Bluebirds.
Was is a coincidence or fate that her favourite bird revealed itself to her?
The little bird never came empty handed, it would bring her a little gift each time it visited her. Ribbons, twigs, flower petals and small pebbles.
Her mother would tell her to throw them away, they’re nothing but rubbish. Not listening to her, Amaya hid them, it must be tiring to bring them everyday so it would be a waste to throw them away.
Now aged 11, all those good morning had come to an end when her parent’s informed her that they would be moving far away.
Years Passed and she couldn’t stop thinking about the bird. But she had to move on with her life.
16 Years Later - Amaya’s Pov
It’s been 2 years since I opened this art gallery in my local town. It took so long to get to this point.
Even though we display art for famous painters and sculptors , we often display for up and coming artists, today we are hosting an exhibition for them.
Office - 11:50:AM
“Hello Mr. Rez, please make sure that the waiters and food are ready by 7:00pm, the guests will arrive at 7:15PM. Thank you.” I say goodbye and hang up the phone.
Today’s event it going to make me go insane. It took so long to put together.
I sigh and look at my bestfriend and manager of the gallery, Zara.
“Everything is set for tonight, I’ve also seen the art pieces and sculptures, they’re brilliant. But I just finished going through the check list of artists and I’m missing one from a guy named Carter Parkinson. He was meant to have it delivered yesterday but because of his schedule he couldn’t. He emailed while you were on the phone, he’ll be here soon.”
“Awesome, you can go to lunch early if you want I just need to sort something then I’ll come and join you.” She nods while setting her tablet aside and leaves.
!0 minutes pass and I finished what I needed to do. I grab my bag and walk onto the gallery floor. Zara is right, they are brilliant. I continued down the floor but stopped when someone caught my eye, a guy who looked like he was in his 20s.
Looking at his side profile he looks handsome. I walk up to him because no one is meant to be here other than my staff.
“Hello sir, may I ask why you’re here? We are currently closed for tonight’s event. Maybe you can come back tonight.”
“I understand that Ms. but I’m here for a reason, my name is Carter, Carter Parkinson. I’m here with my artwork.” That’s when it clicked in my dumb brain. How did I not recognise him.
“Sir I’m awfully sorry for my mistake. I’ve been looking forward to seeing your work, where is it?” I look around but he doesn’t have anything with him.
“Don’t worry about it, and your workers kindly put it up on the main floor, I was just walking around until we spoke. Let’s go and see how it looks.” I nod.
We walk to where it was and I don’t know why but something about it feels familiar.
It’s covered with twigs, ribbons, flower petals and small pebbles. The same thing that the Bluebird brought me every single morning, but how is this even possible? Unless he is secretly the bird. I jokingly thought to myself, I gave him a quick glance, haha no, people can’t turn in to animals, that’s silly.
Carter’s Pov
I can’t believe I finally found her, it’s been over 16 years and she’s so beautiful. I purposely made this with the same things I’d bring her when we were young. Yes, I was that bird.
Everyone has an animal spirit inside of them, mine just happens to be a Bluebird. If you don’t know about this and don’t connect with it mentally and emotionally then your animal spirit will not reveal itself. People can go their whole life without discovering it, thankfully my parents taught me everything.
When it comes to love we are only compatible with people who are the same animal. I don’t know why, so what I’m telling you is that Amaya is the same as me. I could feel it as soon as I saw her. We can see what person is what animal. And we get a kind of spark in our hears letting us know who are soulmate is.
I see that she doesn’t realise what she is, her animal is dormant. Either her parents don’t have their animals because they don’t know or they know and didn’t tell their daughter. If it’s the second option then they’re cruel for keeping it from her.
I look at her and she’s deep in thought while looking at my artwork, she definitely recognises the things I’ve used. I gently tap her shoulder bringing her back to reality.
“Hey, it was nice meeting you but I need to leave. I’ll be back for tonight’s event.” She nods and I leave to call my parents.
Amaya’s Pov
He left but I was still looking at his work, the more I focus on how everything is arranged, I see a young girl’s face.
“Woah, why does that look like you when you were younger?” Zara’s sudden voice make me jump.
“Jeez Zara, where did you come from? I thought you were going for lunch.” I look at her.
“Haha yeah. I got to the café only to realise that I forgot my bag in your office, my purse is in there. I’d lose my head if it wasn’t screwed on. But like I said that artwork resembles you. I remember the old framed photo in your office, the one with you and your parents.”
She’s right, it looks like me, how did he create this? I’m really confused.
I don’t remember having friends when I was younger, I was homeschooled. My parent’s couldn’t afford to send me to school that’s why we moved because they managed to get better paying jobs somewhere else.
“Alright go and get your bag then we’ll head out to eat.” She nods and leaves for my office.
I definitely need to speak with that Carter guy tonight.
Time Skip - 7:40PM
Guest are here, waiters are wondering around with trays of food and drinks, I’m happy to see everyone admiring the incredible art we have on display.
I’ve been standing here waiting for Carter to arrive, he’s taking his sweet time getting here. I go to walk to one of the paintings when someone tapped me on the shoulder, I look and see Carter standing there with his dashing smile.
“Hey. I apologise for being late, traffic was awful, then it took forever to find a parking space.” I nod accepting his apology.
“Uh-huh. We need to have a serious conversation after the event has finished, once everyone has left the building, please stay behind. For now go over and speak to the guests viewing your work, they have questions for you.”
He walked towards the crowd adoring his work and they began asking questions. I placed myself behind them so he doesn’t see me, I would love to hear his answers.
“Ah young man, I would like to know what you used for inspiration when creating this beautiful piece of art.” People around her nod wanting to know too.
“Thank you for your question. When I was younger I met a girl around the same age as me-” He was interrupted by a man.
“Why is she the inspiration for this?” I notice his cheeks turn a soft pink colour.
“This is her at the age of 11, that is the last time I met her. Everyday I would bring her many things such as flower petals, small pebbles, twigs and different coloured ribbon. I was a kid, I didn’t have money to buy anything expensive. I liked her a lot, that’s why I brought her things she liked. It may sound funny but I always remember how she’d pat my head when I brought them.” He showed a sad smile.
Everything he said is exactly what happened with that bird, is he being serious or has he stalked me since we were children? Watching me from a far when the bird showed up at my window?
I couldn’t stand it anymore, I went up and grabbed his wrist and pulled him with me, making sure to apologise to the guests.
“Sorry for the interruption everyone, Mr. Parkinson has a very important phone call waiting for him.” I swiftly take him to my office and close the door.
“You need to start explaining everything right now! Those details you mentioned, they happened to me when I was younger. How do you know all of that stuff and why is that artwork of ME?! Are you a creepy stalker? Tell me or I’ll contact the police.” He stands there and I walk over to the office phone.
“Wait stop! You’ve got it all wrong Amaya. We do know each other, it’s just-” He let out a frustrated sigh.
“I promise we have met on multiple occasions, especially when we were younger, but I didn’t exactly look human back then. Even though we were young, I felt a deep connection with you and to show you I brought those items to you.”
“Nothing about this makes any fucking sense.” I slam the phone down.
“I’M THE BLUEBIRD AMAYA!” My eyes widen, this can’t be real, he’s got to be mentally unstable.
“You need to seek medical help.” I go to leave but he pushed me onto the couch and hovered over me.
“I knew you wouldn’t believe me, come to WestRock Forest tomorrow and I will reveal everything. I promise that I’m telling the truth.” He released me and went out of the office.
I sat there while different emotions filled my body. Zara walked into the room confused.
“Amaya? Are you alright? Why did Mr. Parkinson just leave? Omg did he hurt you?” She went to run after him.
“Stop! We just had a small conversation. I told him how happy I am with his work and offered to display more of it here. He got a phone call and had to leave.” I hate lying but sometimes it’s needed.
“Alright chill out. If he does hurt you I’ll kick his ass haha. By the way I was looking for you because a rude woman bumped into a waiter, the champagne they were carrying spilled over her expensive fur coat. She wanted to speak to the owner. I tried my best to speak with her but she put her hand in my face and said she doesn’t talk to lower class people. I almost hit her, so it’d be best if you go out there.” She gave me cute puppy eyes.
“I leave for a few minutes and it turns to hell. Let’s go. I don’t need her driving people out with her antics.” We leave my office.
The Next Morning
I’ve debated all morning whether I should be here, but I need answers. I’ve been waiting for 20 minutes at the entrance. There is a cute little bench here so I decided to sit down because my legs were beginning to hurt. I can’t believe I trusted him, I should’ve done the normal thing and contacted the police.
While growing more and more impatient a bird flew down and landed on my right leg, it looked familiar. It’s colours were beautiful, a deep blue covered its head and wings with a rusted red colour on its throat and breast area, this was definitely a male Bluebird.
"Hi there, are you the one from all those years ago?" I jokingly said as it hopped along my thigh, I moved my hand to pet it but it went to the floor and seconds later Carter was standing in the birds place.
I let out a scream of fear and fell off the bench, he tried to help me but I kept moving back until I backed into the entrance sign.
"Please stop Amaya. I won't bring you to any hard." I couldn't listen, I stood up and wasn't thinking properly I ran in the forest.
