Calisto Black
Calisto POV
I was awoken by a loud knocking on my bedroom door, causing me to groan as I removed my blanket and approached the door. It was Thomas who greeted me.
“There’s a pack meeting this morning; get ready, we are about to leave,” he informed me.
“Just leave without me; I’ll catch up to you,” I responded with a fake smile, he agreed and left, and I breathed a sigh of relief as I shut the door.
I am Calisto Black, aged 22, and I was adopted by Thomas and his mate, Sandra. I was found on the riverbank as a child clutching onto a knitted blanket that held my name on it and taken in by the Alpha of the Luna Nova Pack, to which I now belong. I don’t like this pack, though. Due to the Alpha’s authority, the pack members couldn’t openly object to my adoption as an outsider, but they held a strong animosity towards me. They often mistreated and harassed me, reminding me constantly that I didn’t belong in the pack. And for that I despise them.
I quickly gathered some clothes and headed to the bathroom to take a shower. Once done, I stood in front of the mirror to look over my appearance. My hair, naturally waist-length and platinum, had been the subject of rumors spread by Sofia, the daughter of the previous Alpha and the sister of the current Alpha. She claimed that I had dyed it for attention-seeking purposes. My green eyes and pale complexion completed my look. I wasn’t particularly tall or short, falling somewhere in between. After giving myself a once-over, I got dressed in an oversized black shirt adorned with a picture of the Eiffel Tower, along with some baggy black pants and my trusty black Vans. Today, I aimed for a “leave me alone” appearance, though it was amusing since no one really talked to me except to give orders or hurl insults.
After checking my email, I left my house and walked towards the Packhouse. With my earphones in, I played “It Has Begun” by Starset as I silently made my way there. Upon arrival, I took out my earphones and headed towards the back of the house where everyone had already gathered for the meeting. Once there, I positioned myself at the back of the crowd, keeping a distance from everyone but still within earshot.
“Rogues have been seen near the area but not close to the border,” The crowd was addressed by a voice that carried immense power and authority, leaving no doubt as to its owner: Alpha Zachery. Although he was a skilled leader and a formidable fighter, he was also an unpleasant person. His ego was massive and his attitude was comparable to that of a hurricane. To make matters worse, he had been one of my primary tormentors in school, and he continued to be so to this day.
“We will send scouts to monitor their movement, however it’s best if you stay away from the border until they have left.” After he said that, I completely lost interest and began to tune him out. I had no desire to hear about the pack’s affairs, and I was even less interested in listening to his voice.
As the meeting concluded, I began to walk away when my gaze locked with Zachary’s. The weight of his stare bore down on me like a heavy stone, making me feel as though I was being pinned to the spot then he began to walk towards me.
Couldn’t he have just looked at me then walked away.
I felt a strong urge to escape, but the crowded surroundings made it impossible. Instead, I stood there with an unpleasant look on my face.
“Pathetic” He didn’t even say a simple greeting like “hello” or “how are you,” and instead, that was the first word he uttered.
“I regret to inform you that I am not a mirror,” I quickly shut my mouth, cursing my lack of discretion.
Instead of his typical snarky response, he said something that left me surprised.
“I have made the decision to grant everyone a day off, but it is still necessary to clean the house and prepare food. I recommend that you begin doing so now.” I stood there, mouth agape like a fish, as he walked away with a smug expression.
