the coffee girl

Summary

Y/N Ball was a small girl when her parents broke up, they were never married but they knew it was a mistake when her mother got pregnant with her. She grew up with her mother until she gotten put in the care of her father from abuse. Y/N never left her father's side growing up, not trusting anyone, because of her past experiences. When her father got the job as director for the hottest new movie and bestseller book, The Maze Runner, she wanted to stay with him but didn't really care for the movie itself. She was on set everyday, as the coffee girl, getting drinks for the cast and for her father. Since she was on set a lot she got to know the cast very well, especially one special British blond boy. Thanks very much to @kdcarson021 for the book cover! Check her books and her cover shop out, they're very good! This is a short story, not sure how many chapters there will be but probably under 20, maybe 15? Not sure yet. I only own the story and Y/N but I don't own any of the actors because no one owns them. I also don't own the Maze Runner storyline for certain scenes.

Chapter 1- The Meeting

April 19th

I sat slouched in my seat with a bored look on my face. My father was standing near the doorway waiting for the cast of Maze Runner to come in.

“Dad come on, I’m 17 do I have to be here?” I asked annoyed and crossed my arms across my chest.

“Unless you’d rather be with your mom,” my father replied and looked out the door again and waved at someone.

“Nope I’m good,” I breathed loudly.

I looked down at my shirt, I was wearing a basketball jersey, number 27. I was wearing black vans and black jeans under the jersey. My long brown hair was down and u had a backwards ‘Los Angeles’ ball cap smashed on my head. The jersey was from my high school in a small town in Florida. When my dad got offered the job to be the Director of the Maze Runner, after he produced his short film Ruin, he moved the two of us to Los Angeles.

“Thought so,” He said, “And sit up, they’re starting to come in.”

"Fine,” I said and grumpily sat up but put my elbows on the table and leaned my hands against my face.

“Good Morning, Mr. Ball.” I heard a male voice say and walk into the room. He was dark skinned and had small black curls on his head. He was wearing grey suit pants and a white button up shirt with a red tie.

“Please call me Wes,” The two shook hands, “You must be Dexter Darden,”

“Yes sir, uh- Wes.”

“Don’t worry about it,” The Dexter boy turned his attention to me and came around to me, I pulled myself up from leaning against my fists and turned my head to him.

“Hello there,” He said politely. He held out his hand and I took it awkwardly, giving it a little shake.

“I’m Y/N Ball, his daughter,” I nodded my head towards my father who was already shaking another boy’s hand.

Great, I thought I am going to be surrounded by boys this whole meeting.

“Nice to meet you,” He said smiling and then took a seat on the other side of the table from me.

The other boy that my father had been talking to took a seat across the table from me and a little to the left. “Morning” A British accent shot at me with a smile.

“Good morning,” I said with monotone. I had seen this boy before from some show or movie but I couldn’t put my finger on it. The boy had brown/ blondish hair and eyebrows that looked like they could have lifted off anytime.

“You’re Will Poulter aren’t you.”

“Yes, I am.” the boy said smiling and raised those interesting eyebrows, “Did he tell you?” He said motioning to my dad who looked like he was welcoming yet another boy.

“Yeah, he told me most of the cast, I actually helped him with some of the auditions, like who should play the part.”

“Interesting,” Will replied.

One by one the boys filled into the room sitting down and introducing themselves to me and surprisingly a couple of females came in, Kaya Scodelario and Patricia Clarkson. I met most of the cast with character names: Blake Cooper (Chuck), Alexander Flores (Winstin), Aml Ameen (Alby) and Chris Sheffield (Ben).

There were about 4 boys that weren’t here yet and dad had told me that Jacob Latimore (Jeff) and Joe Adler (Zart) weren’t going to be at the meeting today, but I couldn’t tell who was missing.

“I think we’re just missing Dylan and Thomas,” My father explained. There were two empty seats, one being next to me and the other being across the table from me.

“Did someone say my name?” A brown haired boy slid into the room with much fashion. I bursted out in laughter as the boy fell down because he tried to slide on the ground. He stood up with the help of a chair and myself. As he stood up I realized who he was.

“Oh my god,” I said, “STILES!”

“You watch Teen Wolf?” He asked, shocked but smiling happily.

“I do!” I said smiling. “Stiles is literally my favorite character! He’s so sarcastic and one of the reasons I watch the show!”

“That is the biggest compliment I have ever heard, thank you so much- um I don’t know your name.”

“Y/N Ball.”

“Well it’s nice to meet you, Y/N” Dylan said and stuck his hand out for me to shake. I took it and gave it a firm shake. Dylan then sat down in the empty spot next to me, leaving only one spot left: the one right across from me.

“Nice to meet me? It’s nice to meet you!” I said laughing. Never thought I’d meet my favorite character’s actor, I thought.

“Is everyone here?” James Dashner said from across the table.

Oh yeah did I mention I got to meet the author of the Maze Runner himself? When he walked through the door and introduced himself– I gave him the side eye honestly.

“I think we’re just missing Thomas Sangster now, Jacob and Joe said they weren’t going to make it but Thomas said he would be here.” My father replied.

“Oh, he was the one in Nanny McPhee and Love Actually, right?” I said and slouched against my fist again.

“Why are you going to go around the table and name off what people have been in?” Will asked from my right and raised those eyebrows at me.

“Well, it came to mind what I know you in,” I said, shifting my eyes over to see him.

“What do you know me in?” He kept raising those eyebrows even when I thought they couldn’t get any higher, they did.

“You were Eustace in Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader.” I answered, my words slurring together slightly. Dylan O’Brien and Ki Hong Lee included themselves in the conversation and I started to realize I was happy my dad dragged me along for this cast board meeting.

As we talked I heard my dad exclaim and welcome someone else into the room. I didn’t dare look away from the conversation in fear that I would love connection. I knew it had to be the Sangster boy anyway.

“You can take the empty seat in front of Y/N, I’m fine with standing.” My father said, I looked over at the boy my father was talking to.

“That’s very nice of you sir,” I heard a British accent reply.

“Please call me Wes,” My father said for the millionth time this afternoon.

Thomas’s voice was a kind one and the kind of one that would comfort you when you were sad or bring warmth on a wet and rainy day.

Now I wasn’t the kind of girl to drool over boys but I will say he had a nice face. It was beautiful and perfect.

Shit did I just say perfect? No, no. Well I mean I am just telling the truth, there’s no harm in that.

He had a smile that could bring warmth to an iced heart and it brought happiness to my soul. At first his expression was shocked when he laid eyes on me but as he continued to gaze it softened into a warm smile. I was shocked by his initial expression but shrugged it off. He gave a small nod then turned to my father who had started speaking.

“Welcome all of you, thank you for making time in your day to come here for this meeting. Now as all of you probably know, I am Wes Ball and this,” he gestured to me, “is my daughter Y/N she will be with us for almost all of the filming and most of the meetings.” I saw Thomas give a small nod and then turn to me still with that warm smile lingering on his face, he was ver y good looking. “Now we have someone very special here with us, author James Dasher, of said book series that we are turning into a movie, is here to talk with us about the plans we have for this new exciting movie!”

“I hope you’re here to apologize,” I said to Mr. Dashner, he turned to me amused and with a smile.

Y/N,” My dad scolded.

“What now?”

“Y/N, what did we say about this,”

“No, no Wes this is entertaining,” Mr Dashner said waving it off, “Now, Y/N what do you mean by that?”

“I hope you’re here to apologize,” I said once again, “for page 250 in the cure for dying.” Everyone just looked at me and then turned to James Dashner seeing what his reaction was. He started laughing very hard and everyone relaxed and laughed along.

“Ah, yes I’m sorry, I’m sorry.” he apologized.

“That didn’t sound sincere,” I exclaimed.

“No Y/N-” my father said chuckling.

“Cause it wasn’t,” Mr. Dashner said and my father just smiled and shook his head slightly.

“Well looks like someone got their facts down,” A British voice said from across the table, in front of me. I had only heard the voice once but only slightly that one time and it shocked me to hear what it sounded like. It wasn’t deep like Will’s but it was kid-ish and cracked a bit when he spoke.

“I do,” I said, calmly.

“I thought we didn’t speak of page 250,” he said lightly.

I just chuckled and raised my eyebrows nodding.
