Chapter 1

“Ah ahh” a deep shriek escaped from the boys lip causing the whole cottage shudder.

“You piece of shit!” His stepmom yelled at him before landing another whip on his back.

“Ahh no ....no mom I... I didn’t do that ahh pl... please” squealed the boy with unbearable pain.

“I know you are the one who did that, you rotten sccumbag wait , I will throw you out soon” roared his step mom before whipping her back.

“Ahhhh” with last shriek he passed out on the floor causing her smirk evilly.

“Come on son let’s wait for daddy and throw this rotten shit out of the house” she stated to her seven year old son before escorting to their room.

The scarred boy slowly gained his conscious but only thing he felt was numb. Tears were long gone in his eyes when his mother passed.

After his mother’s demise his father married another woman in the name of his future. But the evil woman married him for his wealth. They stayed in the village side but they have enough asset in city. Initial stage she treated him as her own son but as days passed she showed her true colors. Precisely when his dad not around.

Today when he was sweeping the floor as per his stepmom order his step brother hit the flower vase with his baseball. But the blame riled up on him. As usual she got another reason to hit him. By that she would manipulate his dad to send him to the hostel.

By jelly legs he came out of the cottage causing the chill breeze hit his wounded body. Tho the pain was unbearable he curbed it since his inside wound was more than his outside.

He went towards his favorite spot where his mom used to take him. Climate was so chilly today making the fresh blood in his wound freeze. He sat on the stone bench of the lakeside and stared up the moon.

“M...mom I didn’t do that ...you believe me right?” He whispered in his parched throat.

As usual he got no response making him chuckle dryly. He hugged himself in his broken state. He weeped out to his heart content. He stayed there almost an hour letting his body freeze.

All of sudden he felt a pair of cold arms wrapping a jacket around him. He squared his shoulder to meet an icy azure orbs. Don’t know what caught inside him when he met her eyes which brought him relief, peace like vast sky. Before he could utter a word that girl wiped his cheeks made him realize he was crying.

All of sudden he hugged her not even bothering about his pain. Right now he need someone. Someone to care, console or to assure him ‘everything is gonna okay’

The girl stunned by his sudden encounter but on its own her arms snaked around his neck pulling him more into her stomach. He weeped until he can’t.

After around twenty minutes he entangled from her only to saw her teary eyes. This warmed his heart.

“Don’t worry everything will be alright, okay?” Her melodious voice stunned him.

“God won’t test a person who is weak as I can sense you’re not that much weak, aren’t you?” She queried in her velvety voice causing his eyes amuse.

Yet they stayed in each other arms for a while. When her hands lowered to his back he hissed painfully causing her anxious.

“What happened? Are you alright?” She questioned concernedly causing him smile softly.

She slowly straightened up him over the bench. When she tried to leave the place he caught her wrist which made her turn around to him.

“Don’t worry I’ll be back soon” assured the girl before leaving the spot. Tho he don’t want to leave her, her words made him do it hesitantly.

In few minutes she came back with some herbal medicines. Gingerly she removed the jacked from him and examined his whipped back. On instinct she hissed like she was in pain.

Cautiously she removed his torn piece of cloths and wiped the frozen blood in cotton. He flinched but she hissed for his pain. This made his heart thump near his ear.

With baby pace she dressed his wound carefully and again wrapped the jacket over his shoulder to warm him up. He smiled by her care and affection.

“Don’t worry it will heal your wound soon and don’t get infected at least a week” she suggested him causing his head bow on its own.

“Who are you?” This the first time he opened his mouth until she came.

“Thank God you speak, I thought you were dumb” she mocked to brighten up his mood.

“I’m here with my family to visit my grandparents” she answered.

“What’s your name?” He questioned.

“Erm actually my dad said we shouldn’t share our names with strangers but don’t worry you can call my pet name buttercup. My dad used to call me that” she said with lovely smile crossing her lips.

“Okay then what do you wanna call me?” He quipped.

She made a thinking face made him chuckle by her innocence and doey azure.

“How about bean?′ she asked but he seems to be unsatisfied.

“Milo? Coco?” She added up but he was yet unsatisfied.

“Ahh honeybunch” she said with sparkled eyes causing him smile.

“Nice” only word he uttered.

“Okay honeybunch had your dinner?” She asked causing him shook negatively.

With poker face she again went towards her cottage and came back with two apples and glass of milk. This melted his heart. When she again settled next to him, she forwarded him the apple he ate like an obedient boy. Then he finished his second apple followed by a glass of milk.

When he pushed back to her, she burst into laughter causing his eyes narrow at her. She pointed her forefinger towards his lips in between her chortle.

“Ohh big boy” she muttered.

This caught him. She was smiling at his milk moustache. He didn’t like that so remind still. By not getting any response she glanced him. Whose stare still on her but bit enraged.

“I’m sorry” she muttered by clutching her both ears.

This time his turn to burst into laughter. In a while she too joined him. Their melodious chortle resonated on the wide vista. The moon light eliminating over her face shinned up.

“Okay I need to go and you too get back home and take some rest as we can meet tomorrow” she said while rising to her feet.

“Will you?” He questioned before she could leave.

“Of course my honeybunch” she assured while pinching his chubby cheeks.

He rooted on his spot by her soft feathery touch. By shooking his head, he too tried to stand but hissed in process. This time not by his pain but something hit his feet. Removing his feet, he had look of the source. There was her kola earing. He took in his hand before leaving the spot.

When he reached their cottage, his stepmom already kept the show ready. Well prepared to scold him by his dad.

“What the hell son” yelled his dad.

But he didn’t stand up as usual. Today he doesn’t want to ruin his mood after the meeting with his buttercup. He stilled on the spot awaiting his dad’s hard slap. But nothing happened. His dad left the spot with heavy huff. He stared his retiring back awfully.

By shooking his head, he retired back to his small dungeon. Yes, his stepmom made him stay in the storeroom which is too small without any ventilation.

He laid on his stomach due to his whipped back on the small mattress. Today sleep engulfed him pretty soon by his buttercup.

Next morning, he felt fresh and brisk except the physical pain. As per her instruction he didn’t take shower bath instead sponge bath. Before heading towards his daily chore, he took her kola earning and stuffed in his pocket.

But outside the scene was he least expected. His dad arranged all formalities for his boarding school which shattered his world. How much he resisted nothing happened. Now he could recognize why his dad didn’t slap him yesterday.

He tried his level best to meet his buttercup before leaving the spot. But everything went in vain. As the warden was set ready to cage him in his truck towards his hell.

He glanced the lake longing for the last time trying to stamp their meet fully in his heart.

“Don’t worry buttercup I’ll get you and I swear it” he murmured while a lone tear shed from his eyes.

PARIS IN THE DARK

Hester: Very good, was short too the point , not lingering on the abuse, pity you didn’t let him step in earlier knowing the abuse was happening, but this is almost real for some women who have gone through it, just wish they could all have a princess at te end of thete tunnel
