Chapter 1: The Rivalry Begins
Vivian and Chris first met in their freshman year at college. They were both pursuing degrees in the same field and soon found themselves in the same classes.
From the beginning, they were both top-performing students and it wasn’t long before they became academic rivals. They competed fiercely for the highest grades and constantly tried to outdo each other in class discussions and group projects.
Vivian was immediately impressed by Chris’s charisma and confidence, which stood out in a class full of reserved and studious students.
Chris, on the other hand, was intrigued by Vivian’s intelligence and dedication to her studies. He had always enjoyed a good challenge, and he saw Vivian as a worthy rival.
The two quickly established themselves as the top students in the class, each determined to prove that they were the best. They competed fiercely in every class assignment and discussion, always trying to outdo each other.
Their rivalry soon spilled over into extracurricular activities as well. They both joined the school’s debate team and found themselves once again vying for leadership positions.
The debate team was known for its competitive spirit, and Vivian and Chris quickly became two of the team’s most prominent members. They spent hours researching, preparing arguments, and practicing their speaking skills.
As the debate team’s annual leadership election approached, Vivian and Chris once again found themselves at odds. They both wanted to be the team’s captain, and they began to campaign vigorously, trying to win the support of their fellow team members.
Vivian focused on her experience and her ability to lead the team to victory, while Chris emphasized his innovative ideas and his ability to inspire and motivate the team. As the election drew nearer, tensions between the two grew even more intense, and their arguments became increasingly heated.
Finally, the day of the election arrived, and the team members gathered to hear speeches from the two candidates. Vivian spoke first.
”Ladies and gentlemen when it comes to leadership, there is no substitute for experience and a proven track record of success. It’s easy to make promises and talk about what you would do in a hypothetical situation, but it’s much harder to deliver results when you’re in the driver’s seat. That’s why, in this leadership debate, I want to emphasize the importance of experience and a track record of success. As a leader, you need to have the skills and knowledge necessary to make tough decisions, navigate complex challenges, and inspire your team to achieve their best. Leadership is not just about having a great vision or being able to articulate a compelling message. It’s about having the experience and expertise to turn that vision into reality. It’s about knowing how to build and lead a team that can execute your plans and delivers results. So, when you’re considering who to vote for in this leadership election, I urge you to look beyond the rhetoric and focus on the candidates’ experience and track record of success. Ask yourself, who has the proven ability to get things done? Who has a history of making tough decisions and achieving their goals? And who will bring the kind of leadership that we need to move forward and succeed in the challenges that lie ahead? Thank you.”
Chris then followed. ”Fellow team members, my job is not just to manage the present, but to also plan for the future. I believe in presenting a clear vision for where we want to go and laying out plans to take our performance to new heights. I see a bright future, one where we are not just meeting our goals, but exceeding them. To get there, we need to focus on innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement. We need to be proactive in identifying new opportunities and taking risks to pursue them. I have the plan to help us achieve this vision. It involves investing in training and development, fostering a culture of accountability and ownership, and leveraging cutting-edge technology to streamline our processes and enhance our productivity. Together, we can achieve great things and take our team to new heights. So, I ask for your vote and your support in making this vision a reality. Thank you.”
When the votes were counted, the result was a tie. The team members were split down the middle, with half supporting Vivian and half supporting Chris. The two candidates were left to decide what to do next.
After some discussion, Vivian and Chris decided to have Vivian as the new leader of the debate team.
"Appreciate you making me the new leader" Vivian whispered to Chris. "Don't celebrate and be happy too much, I'll beat you somewhere else." Chris then replied and walked away.
