Lone Samurai
Barely a month into college, she stood in a short line to get lunch. She, like most people, pretended to be busy on her phone while she stood in line.
Frequently looking around, she spotted the most beautiful man that she’d ever seen in person. Paying attention to the line, she immediately opened Snapchat and began texting her cousin about him.
OMG! I just saw the finest man ever and damnnn he’s hella hot!
Cousin: Oouu. What he look like?
She tried her best to recall from the glance she took.
Lightskin, hair braided into jumbo box braids into a ponytail, 2 thin Cuban link necklaces (it’s obvious he got some money), short heard and moustache, a little on the skinny side, and the sexiest pair of pink plump lips!
Cousin: Damn!
She risked a glance at him again, hoping he was still there, he sat in one of the chairs by a table and he appeared to be drawing on an iPad. She turned back around to walk up in the line.
A few seconds later, she felt a pair of eyes on her, and because of severe anxiety, she started getting nervous and self conscious. Considering that it was late September, she wore sneakers, plain grey sweats, and an oversized hoodie with a long sleeve shirt underneath. Nothing special or attractive, still she felt eyes.
He glanced at her quite frequently, actually more than he thought he would, sneakily working on his sketch as his muse unsuspectingly typed on her phone. He noticed that she wasn’t anything special to look at, at least not in that moment. He focused more on her energy, it seemed to call to him in a way that he’s never felt before. These feelings intrigued and slightly frightened him, he didn’t want to rush into anything so soon.
To him, she gave off vibes of a loner. By herself, on her phone probably not really doing anything, and not appearing to be interested in talking to anyone. Still, he drew her, not as she was, but as her energy revealed her to be.
Near the register and knowing it was almost her turn to order, she’s glanced around enough to get an estimate of the amount of people that were there. She couldn’t pin point where the stare was coming from, and she refused to believe that the super hot guy was watching her. Her? No way. Almost to the register, almost time to order.
He figured he should stop staring at her, she glanced around more frantically, and he knew what it felt like to be stared at like an attraction at an amusement park. He finished the sketch.
Their eyes met.
Somehow, something clicked.
Something unexplainable but familiar.
Dear Lord his eyes are stunning! She thought as she heard, “Next! Hello..” Due to the proximity of the voice, she knew it was her turn. In an instant, she spun her head around, snapping her put of her daydream, and put on a fake smile to order her usual. Those eyes still in the back of her mind, and little did she know, staring at the back of her head still.
Shit! The fuck just happened? He thought as he quickly put away his things. Their eyes met, and he felt this odd sudden burst of inspiration and passion. He hadn’t felt that way in a very long time, much less from another person. I have to talk to her! He concluded.
Quickly taking her food and scurrying off to her usual spot, she looked around for him again, doubting he could still be here. Strangely enough, he was suddenly at her spot, looking for someone. It couldn’t be her right?
Their eyes met again, and it confirmed her earlier theory. They were different colors! One was brown and the other was blue. She had to stop herself from staring because he was approaching her at this point.
She’s staring, just like everyone else. He thought as his eyes met her dark brown ones. It made part of him want to turn around and forget about her and it made him a little less happy to see her. But after just a few more seconds, he could tell her astonishment was more out of curiosity. Does she have questions or sum? He wondered awkwardly to himself and tried not to make a face. Remembering what’s going on, he quickly flashed a smile at her and stuck his hand out, “Hi, I’m Jordan and I do digital illustrations and animation, I drew a picture.. well more of a sketch of you. Would you like to see it?” He continued to analyze her.
She was utterly shocked but shook his hand. Me? Jordan? Sketch of me??
She trained herself to snap out of daydreams, so she focused on his words and his appearance, but not too much on the latter so she doesn’t get distracted. His braids were freshly done, flawless light brown skin, his eyes, one brow had the cat scratch style, both ears held a small diamond earring, and he wore casual but nice clothes. Damn he got money for real.
This analysis was quick and took the duration of his sentence. Responding to his question with delight, she said giving an awkward smile, “Sure.”
They sat at a nearby table, and proceeded to talk about his drawingof her.
“I call it, The Lone Samurai.” He said as he showed her what he drew while observing her reaction. She was in shock of how similar it looked to her and gave him her honest opinion on how much she liked it. How did he know I like the snow?
