Prologue
Pamela Theodore stood in front of the mirror giving herself a pep talk “come on Pamela you've got to get over him. He's not worth it. He's..he ..he broke my heart. He broke it into so many tiny fragments and I have no idea how I'm going to continue….“ she broke down in tears and slid to the floor.
Pamela had just been dumped by her boyfriend and was finding it hard to get over the breakup. To her, the world had just ended. This wasn't her first relationship. She had been in a relationship with all kind of guys and none has worked for her. They'd always been wrecked one way or another. Once,she fell in love (or thought she did with a guy she met in the train. She liked him because of his persistence and his flattery. He knew exactly what to do to make her happy. Little did she know that he was an ex-convict that broke out of jail and who the police has been searching for. Plus he was married with four kids. That incident gave her quite the shock. Still she continued. She believed that she would find her Mr.Right. She read romantic novels a lot and refused to see the world for what it was. She lived in a world of her own,a fairytale world,seeing herself as the princess waiting for her prince charming who would come and sweep her off her feet.
Her parents and siblings made matters even worse. They never missed an opportunity to remind her of her failures in finding a man . Her sisters were all married. Annabel was married to a soldier with two kids,Tracy was married to a professor and they had two kids . Stephanie just recently got married and was now pregnant with her first child. Whenever they came together to discuss, she always felt left out.
She would never forget what happened at Steph's wedding. The way her mom kept throwing indirect insults at her,she had no option than to leave. The only person who understood her was her bestie,Ronnie. They had been friends for like forever. When they were little,Pamela was outside playing when a moving van drove up to the house opposite theirs. It was their new neighbours. Pamela was watching the family troop out of the van when her gaze locked on Ronnie. She turned and they both stared at each other and at that moment,it felt like a bond was formed between them without need of communicating through words. From that day onwards,you would'nt find Pamela alone. She and Ronnie were always together.
At this particular time, she wished that Ronnie was here with her but she travelled to Europe the previous week.
Ronnie travelled to Europe to visit her father and take a tour.
She was in her father's office when her phone rang.She looked at the screen to check the caller but the caller ID just showed unknown number.She picked it"hello who am I speaking to?' She asked.
“It's me' said the voice on the other side. Ronnie's breath hitched.She could recognise that voice anywhere. It was Pamela's mom. She had never called her and only answered her greetings when she felt like. There was always a kind of tension between the both of them so Ronnie had reasons to be worried. She stood there with her phone to her ear wondering why she would be calling 'I just hope nothing bad has happened to Pam' She thought.
“Are you surprised? Anyways you don't need to be because I didn't call you of my own accord. Your friend begged me to. She is in a terrible state right now and she wants you to come get her. “
“How? What happened?she was in a good condition when I left her.“Ronnie said.
“Oh I guess you don't know yet. Anyways,I will tell you if it means getting her out of my house and sight. She got dumped by her boyfriend……again.Now please COME GET HER OUT OF MY HOUSE !!!“ she ended the call
Mr Johnson, Ronnie's dad saw the worried look on her face and asked her what was wrong. She told him everything and asked his permission to cut her vacation short .“You don't need to cut the vacation short. Just go over there and bring her here. A vacation with her best friend is what she needs right now. Plus since you said she's got nothing tangible doing and her family doesn't care,I think there might be some space to accommodate her in the office. She would love the work.“ He said. Ronnie hugged her dad tightly “Oh dad,you're the best. I'll just book my flight tickets and leave tonight okay??“
Ronnie was at Pamela's house by 10:pm. She walked into her house to find the whole family eating dinner without Pamela. “Where's Pamela? “She asked them. “In her room of course, where else do you expect her to be “snarled Steph.Ronnie was disgusted with them. She wanted to use her mouth to give them what they deserved but remembered she was here to get Pamela. She ignored them and went to Pamela's room.“Pamela, bestie it's me.please open the door.”
To Pamela, hearing Ronnie's voice was like a breakthrough for her because at least she wouldn't sulk alone anymore. She quickly opened the door and hugged Ronnie tightly as if she was holding on for dear life.
Ronnie pulled her into the room and sat on the bed with her.“Ron, do you know what he did? He insulted me,then broke up with me. He said that….I'm the kind of girl that goes to a party to get drunk,seduce a man and blame it on alcohol later. He insulted me in front of everyone.“Pamela said sobbing.
“Oh come on Pammy. You and I know that he's the stupid one for missing out on someone like you. Anyways, you know what?? I have a surprise for you. But I'll only give it to you if you stop crying. “Ron said trying to cheer her up.
If there was one thing that Pamela liked,it was surprises. She quickly cleaned her eyes “fine,fine. I'm done. I won't cry anymore. You're right,he's a jerk and i am divine.“ she said “so what's the big suprise?”
“Okay,slow down. I need you to get up and go freshen up. When you are done, I will tell you everything.“Ronnie said glad to see her bestie returning to her former self. Pamela sighed and got up. She grabbed her towel and went into the bathroom immediately.
Some minutes later,she came out and dressed up.“Now tell me. Or I might just die. So in my obituary,what will be written there will be 'cause of death:suspense'. Is that a good way to die? So please just tell me.“she pleaded.
“OK fine. I'll tell you. Well my dad was with me when your 'nasty mom' called” she glanced at Pamela and said “I hope you don't mind but I can't help but call her names. She just gets on my nerves. Anyways,my dad was there so he asked me what happened and I told him so he asked me to come over and bring you back to Europe 🇪🇺 so that you could finish up my vacation with me. A good getaway from all this drama. And a bonus though. He has a vacancy just for you in his office. So I'm guessing you won't be back here for a long time.“ She concluded.
” okay that was a really big suprise and yes I'm so up for the offer. You just gotta help me pack my bags. I don't even wanna come back to this place ever again.“ Pamela said as she got up and started getting her clothes out of the closet.
Ronnie helped her pack up her things and they travelled the next morning.
