Chapter 1

“Hi” “Hello” Oh my gosh she’s actually texting back there’s no way. “Is this Austin MinJenson?” SHE KNOWS MY NAME! I have had a crush on this girl named Skylar Brooke since 5th grade. I didn’t really think she noticed me much but at least she knows my name. I originally woke up this morning to get done with my homework, but now I find myself lying on my bed shaking from nervousness that I am talking with the girl who has kept me up late every night thinking about her. I was brushing a piece of my dirty blonde hair out of my eyes as I felt a buzz in my hand from my phone. I look down “Sorry, I have to go. I’m about to go to the grocery store” so I texted back “Ok ttyl” I get up out of my bed putting my cowboy hat on before I go out into the living room. I feel kinda ridiculous because I’m wearing sweatpants and a pajama shirt with goats on it, but oh well who cares. I sit down on the couch, still shaking from the conversation I had with Skylar. We didn’t really talk much but I get nervous when I even think about her. I watched TV casually, acting like nothing happened. My dad walks out of his room with his hair still wet from the shower he just took. As he was right behind me, I felt my heart skip eight beats trying to act like nothing happened. He went into the bathroom to brush his teeth so I felt releived. I got up to go back to my room to get my golf cart key and change clothes. I opened the door, shut it behind me and pulled off my hilarious goat shirt. Putting on a solid white tee shirt, I looked at myself in the mirror. If I was Skylar, would I like me? I adjusted my hat and stared into my green eyes for at least two minutes. I walked off undecided so I grabbed my golf cart key from my desk and went outside. I jumped in the cart on turned it on. I put it in forward and started driving. I am so thankful that I have spent my entire life living on a eighty five acre property covered in pine trees. I go down the canopy dirt road kicking up dirt and sand into a dust cloud trail behind me. I stop the cart and sit on one of the two seats on the back. I looked up at the tree tops as the sun was shining through the holes between the leaves. “I wish Skylar was sitting in this seat right next to me” I said to myself. I wonder if she even likes me. I jump back into the drivers seat and continue driving down the old road. I slam on the brakes as two hens and a massive turkey jump out in front of me. Dang it. I should’ve brought my gun. I watched as the trophy went into the woods. I turned the golf cart around and headed back to my house. I get there and as I was opening the door I hear my dad’s voice “How was your ride son?” “It was good” I said. “I’m about to go to the grocery store if you would like to come” “sure” I said “I have to take a shower though” “Hurry up and we’ll be fine.” I get my clothes and I jump in the shower.
