Splendid night
I should listen to my mom when she tells me that I will meet my mate one day and everything will fit into place. Does she believe things are just that easy? I wish I did. I began walking for the front door, watching my mom and dad looking at me as I smirked at them.
“Going for your moon gazing?” My mother asked.
“Samantha, please be careful. You never know if it is just our pack wolves in that area. It is very close to the borders, and I hate that something could happen to you.” My dad chimed in.
“Wow, guys, you have faith in me, don’t you? Yes, I will look at the moon as I always do.” I laughed, knowing how ridiculous my father sounded.
I shook my head as I walked out of the front door seeing several wolves on the small narrow street out front of our house. Many smiled and nodded their heads at me as I began to run, wanting to shift, but I figured tonight I would stretch my human legs a bit. As I began to feel the breeze brushing against my skin, tickling my senses, I knew tonight might be different.
Who am I to hope, right? Well, I will throw it to the wind and let my hope soar as I ran faster towards the open clearing I went to every night to watch the moon in its pure splendor. I inhaled the fresh air filled with the scents of pine and the wildflowers which began to spring up all over the open field.
I reached my usual spot where a large rock sat in the open; I can’t just call it a rock since it stands at least five feet tall. Alright, bolder. I grinned as I climbed to my usual spot to watch the moon rise high in the sky. The stars had already made their way out as they shimmered within the atmosphere. This is the one thing I love about being out in the country; you can see the sky without something hiding them away.
I sat down on the ’bolder, lest I forget. I laughed, knowing I felt ridiculous as I was correcting myself as I sat here alone in the pitch blackness of the night. I watched wonderfully as the moon came into full view, the soft colors making it look more enticing. I leaned back, looking up as I began to hear some sounds from towards the edge of the border tree line.
My heart began racing, not knowing if I should make haste and head for home or sit here and just let what shall come to happen. I am not allowing anyone to stop me from watching the moon tonight. I have done this for eighteen years, and I have never missed it once. I even sat out here when it would be storming or raining in hopes of just a tiny peak of the moon on those nights.
Alright, I know it sounds preposterous, but that is me. My mother would constantly nag at me when I would reach home, drenched and shivering. Some things are worth the ultimate cost, even if I get wet or cold. Nothing shall stop me.
Pulling from my thoughts, I heard footsteps drawing closer as my heart raced wildly at the sound. A strange scent hit me as it clouded my thoughts, the scent of Evergreen and cloves. The scent seemed to be trying to lure me into wherever it came from when I heard another step and then nothing.
I snapped my head off to the side to see a silhouette of a man standing like a statue with his head tilted backward, looking towards the sky. I had never caught his scent before, and I could tell he was not from our pack. Something in me wanted to go to him, yet my father’s warnings also screamed in my ears.
“Please be careful!” As it echoed in my head.
Ugh.. really, I need my dad in my head when I finally think I have found the one meant for me? I rolled my eyes, hoping he would look over and know we were mates considering how much his scent affected me. Yes, wishful thinking, I know. I continued to watch him instead of the moon, totally fascinated with his form. Not that I was checking him out, well, not much. I grinned.
As I was sure he could feel my eyes on him, he lowered his head and turned it to face me. Something within me sprung to life, something I had never felt before. Passion, desire, and a longing need for my mate. For him! He seemed to have lost all sense of watching the moon, and his eyes were locked with mine.
He turned slightly and began walking towards me as if my heart stopped at the anticipation of him being close to me. I took a shuttered breath, knowing I may have my mate at my side within moments. As he grew closer, I wanted to climb off the giant rock and run to him; yet again, my dad’s words filled my mind. Oh, shut it, Dad, I thought.
When he was about ten feet away from where I sat, I heard someone holler from the tree line, almost in a panic. His eyes darted toward the tree and then back to me as if trying to decide what to do. He sighed as he turned and began running for the tree line. My heart ached with the feeling of loss regardless of if I knew him.
I smelt his scent and could tell he was an Alpha. His power radiated from him and was immense and powerful; damn, why did someone have to interrupt. I thought. Not knowing where he ran off to or if he would come back began spinning within my mind wondering where he was from.
What pack, how far away? I need to find him somehow, and I shall do just that!
