--- Chapter 1 About River ---
River was a normal 18 year old. She rebelled like all teens do, but not in the ways the others did. She has always been the quiet type, the type of person you wondered if they were sane or not. It was the latter for her. She was also a demigirl and used she/them pronouns. She thought everyone was out to get her and, let me tell you, she was not completely wrong. She had been in the ‘business’ for years now, just doing that would make anyone insane. But it was the taunts at school and bullying that drew her to insanity. Oh how she hated everyone but Charlotte. Charlotte was the girl she adored, she would give up everything for her. Charlotte was her best friend but she would never feel the way River felt for her, River would give her the whole world while the most Charlotte would give her is her Friday nights. That’s all she did get from her. Enough about Charlotte, River was excellent at school and had many choices for colleges but she couldn’t. She could never leave the family business. NEVER.
She was hanging out with Charlotte one night when she asked after having a few drinks “Would you ever date a girl..?”. Charlotte said “Possibly, if she was right for me.” River got too excited. Was the girl of her dreams really saying she would date her! Did she really have a chance? No she didn’t, if she dated Charlotte she would have to tell her about what she did. She could never tell her. They began talking about walls after that. They were drunk and their brains weren’t used to this so they just acted stupid all night. Well they acted drunk and stupid until they crashed into each other’s arms. They woke up the next day with a huge hang-over. If a pin fell then it would give them a headache. For minutes they laid there tangled with each other until they had enough strength to get back up. River was flustered the whole time. River kept thinking about what happened last night but couldn’t remember.
Then they just assumed the best and then got changed in the bathroom.River didn’t ask what happened last night, they didn’t want to seem dumb. Charlotte was getting changed when Rivers’ phone started to ring. Why was a widely known mafia member calling her? Confused, she picked up the phone and said “Why are you calling my friend?” He then said nothing and hung up. To say the least, Charlotte was confused.
Once River came back, she asked why her crush was upset. Charlotte asked if River was hiding anything from her and River said no. Like the liar River is. She had to, if she didn’t then she would have to kill her.
