Chapter 1
“There’s nothing good in here!” Leonard said as he rummages his scruffy white paws in the silver, rusting bin behind a rundown brick building, the front holding up a buzzing sign that spells ‘The Soldern Hotel’.
“Any luck, Sam?” Leonard says as he looks over to an orange cat who seems to have an old bandage stuck on his tail.
Sam sticks his head out from around a corner and yells back “Just some green sock and what looks to be…” He gags! “NOPE! Yuck!” Leonard laughs out loud not wanting to find out what this mystery item was and begins digging through the garbage can.
“Well, what do we have here?” Leonard licks his lips, his mouth pointed up in a hungering grin, as he stares at a once hidden mouse.
The mouse awkwardly smiles “Evening my G-good fellow” the mouse gulps “May I interest you in a onetime offer of… not eating me?”
“Hmmm, tempting! It really is, but…” Leonard stops himself from finishing and lunges forward, as quick as his small cat body would let him!
The mouse darts past him, using Leonard’s head as a spring bord to get out of the garbage. “EYES PEELED SAM! WE GOT A RUNNER!” Leonard yells hoping Sam could hear his warning.
The mouse speeds along the dirty alley floor, dodging rusty cans left on the floor.
Suddenly the mouse stops in its tracks and slowly looks up…
“Well, hello there lil guy!” Sam towers over the mouse and snatches it up with a paw. “Leonard! Look what I found!”
Leonard finally bursts from the garbage with a nasty look! “Hey!” He glares at Sam “I found it first! No fair”
“Haha! Don’t see you holding him?” Sam evilly giggles as he holds up his trophy “This one is all mine”
The mouse wriggles as it dangles from his tail, squeaking his heart out.
Sam slowly lowers his trophy into his gaping mouth, drool dripping down his one sharp fang.
Leonard’s stomach growls sadly, and that sound makes Sam stop lowering. “Ugh… Fine! Come here! You can take the head.”
The mouse replies fast “please no I’m not that tasty I swea-“ The mouse gets cut off by Sam and gets shook about.
“Silence you!” Sam yells! “Hurry up Leonard get over here and… hey? What’s wrong?” He notices Leonard staring above Sam in fear, tail spiked up in the air.
A cage SLAMS over Sam!
Startled, Sam dropped the mouse and it squoze through a gap of the cage without a second thought.
“Sam! NO!” Leonard yells! He freezes in fear, not knowing what to do.
Sam without hesitation yells “RUN little bro! get out of here!”
Leonard hears something slowly move behind him that makes him jump to the side. A cage slams down where he was standing and makes Leonard Jump! His brothers’ words were echoing across the alley but he didn’t want to leave, He didn’t want his brother to be taken.
“I’ll be okay Leonard! Please just leave!” Sam begs as his voice croaks up in fear of his brother being captured.
Leonard remembers his mother’s last words before she left them “You’re destined for great things my little bundle of fluff. I want you to listen to your brother if he tells you anything. I know it will be hard out there, but he will keep you safe.”
Hesitantly Leonard finally runs from the alley looking back as the two cage holders look at his shivering brother. A tear slowly falls down Leonard’s eye and he runs into another alley. into the darkness.
