Chapter 1 "awakening"
The pain in my head opened the curtains of my eyes, I held my head in pain, "Oh, where am I?"
The harsh voice of a middle-aged woman rang in my ear and slowly cleared with my vision.
"My queen? Are you alright?"
"Queen?"
"Thank God you're fine, Your Highness! Please get up now! You'll be late for your class!"
"Who are you? "
He covered his mouth with his hand and looked at me in surprise, I was crushed by his frightened eyes that I didn't understand anything, his hands were shaking madly, "I-I'm calling the doctor right away!"
She was coming out of the large embroidered door holding her cambered dress, while I was looking around trying to figure out where I was.
I got up from the bed with the shiny sheets that I was buried in, with tulle coming down from the top, and walked towards the dressing table, holding my head as if it were going to get better. The mirror greeted me with its shaped leaf-like embroidery. I looked at my face, my honeyy wavy hair falling from my shoulders, my earthy eyes appearing on my white skin along with my pink lips. Wow! But beautiful! I'm a little skinny though.
I looked out the huge window, there were roses perched on the green grass, in what I thought was a garden, I caught sight of a gentleman in uniform walking, his hands behind his back muttering, his hazel eyes pausing for a moment, looking at me, I hid in embarrassment.
The woman who had just left came back with a man, "Your Majesty is down on the ground, what are you doing!? Are these acts befitting a queen!?"
"Shut up woman!", at my words, her wrinkled face turned red, she left the room with her brows furrowed, leaving me alone with this man.
I straightened up and looked at the window, unable to see the man I was looking at, so I went and sat on the bed. Although he threw his brown hair back, a few strands fell in front of him, his green leafy eyes were serious, he took his tools from his black bag and sat down on the chair, facing me, looking into my mouth, into my eyes, at my reflexes.
"Well? What did you find? What happened to me?"
"You suffered a blow to the head and suffered amnesia, sir. This is very serious, I don't know when it will return."
"Great! I never guessed that I have no memory! Tell me something I don't know, doctor."
He clasped his hands in front of him and took a deep breath, belittling me with his gaze.
"It seems that even if a person loses his memory, his bad character don't change. How sad."
If even any doctor could insult me, I wasn't a very good queen. I thought to myself and felt sorry, seeing that I was upset, he coughed and continued, "I'll come and check on you every week, take care of yourself."
My wrinkled eyes looked at him mixed with a smile, he paused in the doorway, "This is the second chance I've given you, make good use of it."
I didn't understand what he was saying, he started talking to the old woman outside the door, I couldn't hear, just hum. Two or three minutes later the doorbell rang, the woman came in, and she seems to have calmed down.
"How do you feel yourself?"
While I was rummaging through the clothes in the closet, I replied, "Good thanks."
She fell silent and watched me by the door, feeling bad about what had just happened and I said, "I guess I just... exaggerated, sorry."
I looked at his face, and as tears fell from his shining eyes, I rushed towards him in a hurry, "Oh! Me! Well! I'm sorry if I made you cry!"
When she said that, she cried more, she wiped her tears with her handkerchief, my hands and feet were getting mixed up, I didn't know what to do.
"This is your first time apologizing to me."
What do you mean first? Have I broken your heart before? I took her hands in my palms and leaned close to her face, "Sorry for everything I did before, ma'am!"
Her cheeks flushed, her frozen face stopped her tears, and we both flinched when the door suddenly opened, "Madame Pimenova, did the hard queen break your soft heart again?" Thus, I learned the surname of this woman whose hands I hold, thanks to this man I saw in the garden.
"No, sir. The Queen has apologized to me, can you believe it?"
His smiling dimples looked at me and surprised, "oh... so you've seriously lost your memory."
I put my hands on my waist, "Come on...can't be that bad?"
The atmosphere went quiet.
Is that another way of saying yes? This bubbly man with dimples snapped his hat and bowed before me, his golden hair falling in front of me, greeting me, "Let me introduce myself, Miss Asphodel, I'm your childhood friend Victor Salazar, who's also your personal bodyguard."
It's a waterproof fact that we're close, since she didn't speak Queen or majesty and said my name directly.
The old woman imitated Victor and bowed before me, "I'm Elizabeth Pimenova, your personal maid."
I couldn't bear for him to bend down on the ground, I took his hand and lifted him up, "You don't need to bow down in front of me, please get up."
They both looked at each other and at me, showing their surprise, and stood up. I put my hands together in front of me and asked, "What kind of person am I? Where am I from? Where is this place? I would appreciate it if you could summarize briefly."
Victor smiled, held out his hand for me to take, "I'll tell you everything if you accompany me to the rose garden. You were just spying on me, weren't you?"
Embarrassed, I turned my head, "n-no such thing!"
They both chuckled, Miss Pimenova grabbed my shoulders and shoved me into my locker, "Let the Queen dress first and then come."
Victor nodded and left the room, while I was alone with the dresses I had just looked at, none of which I liked. I sighed at the dresses I did not like while Mrs. Pimenova wore a corset on my undressed body and tightened it. "Is there a problem, my Queen?"
"I don't like these dresses, they're all too glamorous."
Surprised, she continued, "Sir, these are the dresses you had custom made, all made to your liking."
"I have terrible taste."
"What kind of thing do you want?"
"Plain, casual, no embroidery... maybe white? It's casual."
She coughed, unsure of what to do, and wiped the sweat from his temples with the handkerchief he had wiped away his tears. I didn't mean to embarrass him...
"Well then, I'll just wear one of these for now and then we'll have something plain sewn."
She smiled happily, waiting for me to choose one of the dresses, but I left the decision up to her. "Shall I choose?"
"If you're my personal maid, you have a dress to match, right?"
Unsure, she showed off a long white dress with gold embroidery, "you look like an angel wearing it."
I took it in my hand, fingered its texture, "well then this is it."
She put me on and tugged the strings around my back. My God! It's so hard to breathe!
She noticed my tense body and tied the ropes with a smile. "Do you think it's easy being a queen?"
"I'm tired already."
She took out matching heels from one of the drawers, and I put them on with the support I got from her hands,
"I thought it was hard to be a girl, not a queen."
She chuckled, handing over her embroidered parasol. I was trying to walk, but my feet were crooked, despite everything, my body seemed to master this reality.
"Don't worry, I'll accompany you to the garden."
I smiled and thanked him, even surprised by that. Before I staggered to the door, I looked out the window, Victor staring at the floor and pacing, for some reason I'm excited to see him.
To be continued...
