Chapter 1. The Brooding Mood.

I used to be a preacher of love. Was a staunch believer of it. Women wanted me but I had my eyes for only one person, Charlotte. She was the woman after my heart. We met in the most unusual of time and circumstance. She was drunk that night. She had just suffered from a breakup with her fiance of three years of friendship and three years of dating. Their wedding was to be that weekend. So you can imagine the feeling. She was ready to die. She stood on the highway waiting to be hit by a car and that unfortunate car was mine. I’d seen her and thought it was robbers staging a scene but was wrong. I helped her home that night and we became friends after that. Our love grew stronger and we got married.

In the second year of our marriage we were blessed with a baby boy. And now eight years later I was faced with an ugly truth about the woman I’ve loved so much. You’re wondering who I am!? Well I’m Jaden and right now I’m a messed up man.”

I sat in the car and watched a pretty brunette passed by and I hissed in a low growl.

“They’re all the same. You love them too much and they shock you afterwards.”

3 days earlier.

“Daddy! Dad welcome.”

Mason came out as usual when he hears the humming sound of my car. He lifts his shoulders and he laughs as I carry him and swing him around. He’s only seven but his laughter could melt anyone’s heart and I was glad he was my son.

“Where is mommy?”

“She’s inside.”

We both went inside and when I sight my beautiful wife in the kitchen, I swept her into my arms with a hug from behind and she chuckles.

“Welcome back Mr. Jade.”

“Thank you Mrs. Jade. How was your day?”

“Fine, yours?”

“Awesome.”

Ok, before everyone will think I’m a hell of a rich guy I’m not. I work as a security guard for James King a powerful politician who’s got lot of enemies. When I was in my early twenties I had taken on a bully who was always disturbing Lionel. It was there I met James.

Growing up as an orphan wasn’t easy. We were easy target for bullies so I learned how to fight to defend myself and Lionel my best friend from the orphanage. Whatever I am doing I like putting in my best and I was glad when my boss noticed my hard work and promoted me to chief security. That meant more pay but with more pay came more expenses.

“What’s it babe? You look moody.”

“Oh it’s nothing. I’m just stressed up that’s all”.

“Please take a rest. I’ll finish the dishes for you.”

“Thanks.” She left for the bedroom.

There was a knock on the door just when I finished with the dishes and I head for the door. I opened and it was my best friend Lionel.

“Hey buddy, you still alive?” He asked jokingly.

“The lion himself. Yeah still alive and breathing.” We both laughed and hugged and I shut the door once inside.

Lionel and I come a long way. He was my childhood friend. He’s always had a dream of being a business developer, owning his own company and helping people start up a business. Of course I’ve helped him in my little way but his big dream, I really wish to be of help someday.

“Jaden thanks for the money you gave the other day.”

“Hey it’s nothing. I was just about to eat. You hungry?” We both went to the dinning to eat just then Mason came in

“Hey uncle Lionel.”

“Hey Mason. Come here and give uncle some love.” They hugs him and left happily. “Such a cool kid. Reminds me of when we were little.” He said all smiles.

“And Charlotte…”

“She’s sleeping.” I replied before he could finish.

Speaking of innocence I lost mine while working for James king. He’s a politician. He’s running for a presidential post and it’s my duty to keep him safe whenever he is going out. On many occasions I’ve thrashed out bad guys for him. Not that king was himself holy but something about you don’t bite the finger that fed you.

I was pretty good at combat. All I do is break the deadliest of bones in your body. You are lucky if you survive

I really enjoyed the mood and depth in your story, it paints such vivid imagery.
It made me think how powerful it could be as a visual piece or c0mic.
I’m involved in visual storytelling, and your work caught my attention.
