Chapter I ~ The One I Am
Quand je suis venu au monde, mes yeux verts éclatants teintés de violet ont dégoûté mon père aristocratique. Il exile sa fille nouveau-née au « Château Blanc », un magnifique château d'un blanc immaculé qui évoque la pureté des jeunes filles, mais avec une froideur surprenante et une aura envoûtante. Je n'ai jamais revu cet homme, du moins pas avant l'année dernière, lorsqu'il a été témoin de la beauté presque surnaturelle de sa fille oubliée de seize ans.
Pendant seize ans, je n'ai jamais vu mon père et je ne savais rien de lui, pas même son apparence. Cela signifiait qu'il ne m'avait jamais tenu dans ses bras, ne m'avait jamais dit "je t'aime" et ne m'avait jamais lu une histoire avant d'aller dormir. Je n'ai jamais connu les plaisirs simples que la plupart des gens tiennent pour acquis parce que ma mère est morte en couches, et les domestiques qui étaient responsables de mon éducation avaient des choses plus importantes à faire, comme voler mes biens et ceux de mon père, s'ils le pouvaient. s'appeler ainsi.
Le jour où j'ai rencontré l'homme avec qui je partage la moitié de mon ADN, il m'a nommée Serena. Des années après ma naissance, j'ai été initié au monde de la nuit, notre monde, le monde des vampires, afin de trouver le meilleur match possible pour moi. J'ai été jugé digne par de nombreux vampires aux origines et aux âges aussi divers que leurs apparences. Cependant, malgré leur incroyable richesse, que leur vie éternelle leur a permis d'amasser au-delà de toute mesure, et leur beauté vampirique qui faisait de chacun d'eux une œuvre d'art en marbre, aucun d'eux n'a conquis mon cœur. Mes yeux n'étincelaient pas d'amour, je ne sentais pas de papillons dans mon ventre et je ne m'évanouissais pas comme tous les imbéciles qui n'appartiennent pas au monde des vampires.
Ils étaient beaucoup trop hypocrites, beaucoup trop confiants, beaucoup trop immaculés, un peu trop parfaits, au point d'en être suspects. Beaucoup d'entre eux avaient probablement un ou deux cas de meurtre ou de viol cachés dans leurs placards. Aujourd'hui, je suis heureux de n'avoir jamais accepté de demandes en mariage, même sous la contrainte, car cela aurait probablement signifié mon malheur. Mon père partageait également mon avis, puisque je suis considérée par les habitants de la capitale de ce royaume comme « la rose aux mille couleurs », le titre le plus élevé qu'une jeune fille puisse recevoir, quel que soit son âge. Ce titre était comme une carte de qualification ou un trophée, car il montrait que la personne qui le possédait était l'incarnation de la beauté, de l'hospitalité, de l'élégance, de la grâce, ainsi que de l'intelligence et de la maîtrise des armes. En effet, une dame devait être capable de se défendre contre les pervers et les brigands.
Il était fort probable que je fasse partie des 19 adolescentes sélectionnées pour avoir la chance de devenir la reine du royaume de Rahjaïne et l'épouse du prince Ludvig. Ce dernier était considéré par toutes les adolescentes comme l'homme et le mari parfait, pour une raison qui m'a échappé, même s'il surpassait son frère jumeau, le charmant prince Raphaël, qui dirigeait l'armée d'une poigne de fer tout en restant compatissant.

I know it may sound strange, but despite everything, it took me nearly a whole week, from Monday to Sunday, to prepare all my belongings. My things included the essential furniture to me, as well as my books, clothes, and Barnabé, my brown and white stuffed rabbit who had been my only friend during the early part of my life. I decided to leave for the palace upon receiving the invitation letter as a candidate because even if I was not chosen by the crown prince, I would still be promised to one of the other three princes, younger brothers of the crown prince, aged respectively 19, 18, and 17, or to one of the children of the Senate ministers. Therefore, it was important for me to pack what was necessary, but also what could be useful to me in my new life.
Unlike most of the young ladies and perhaps young men called to depart, who would have shed tears and experienced heart-wrenching goodbyes, I left with my head held high without shedding a single tear or affection. I simply turned my back on a man, a father who had ignored me for 16 years. However, facing the carriage that would take me away from my aristocratic father, a new problem arose: Lucien Blanchard. This unbearable man was someone with whom I had trouble in the past, and I knew I would have to face him again.
I prepared myself for this confrontation, knowing that I would need all my strength to overcome it. I had already overcome so many obstacles in my life; I could not afford to falter now. I took a deep breath and climbed into the carriage, ready to face all the challenges that awaited me.
Lucien was the first vampire I ever met and the first to propose to me. He must have been around 59 years old, but as vampires like to joke, he was surprisingly well-preserved and had the physical appearance of a young adult like me. However, despite his attractive appearance, he never interested or captivated me, and no feelings ever blossomed in my body or my heart. Yet he clung to me, desperately hoping that I would fall for him. But I knew I could never fall in love with his beautiful red eyes, because outer beauty alone was not enough to win me over.
What distinguished him from other arrogant and superficial vampires was his incredible ability to cling to me. Unfortunately, it made me feel sick. In fact, he had achieved the feat of making me feel disgusted every time I saw him. I could have been attracted to his personality, but he didn’t really have one. Vampires only care about beauty and culture, but they lack it themselves. They are as smart as goldfish, and their level of culture is as low as it can get. Unfortunately, Lucien was one of them, and I knew I had to end our relationship, whatever the cost.
“Serena, are you really going to the palace to marry one of the princes or a minister’s son, when I love you and I’m ready to take care of you for eternity. Don’t go...” Lucien started confidently, his arrogance clearly showing, going so far as to give me an order. However, I sharply cut him off as I passed by.
“No one authorized you to speak to me in this familiar manner. We have no relationship, and we will remain strangers, whether now or in the next thousand years. I advise you not to give me orders as if you were speaking to your wife. And yes, I am going to the palace. My life is just beginning and I don’t intend to ruin it with a fool like you.” In his way of speaking, Lucien was very arrogant and condescending, as if he was above the world. This deeply annoyed me, and I didn’t hesitate to let him know. I also emphasized that we had no relationship, and that he was not authorized to give me orders. Finally, I made the decision to go to the palace to pursue my life, rather than ruin it with someone like Lucien, who was sorely lacking in respect.
I stepped onto the carriage’s step and climbed aboard, leaving Lucien dumbfounded behind me. He watched me follow the path of my destiny, desperately clinging to the door and shouting as if his life depended on it. He knew that if he let me go, he would have no chance of possessing me. But this fool had never understood that he never had a chance to possess me, because I am out of his reach and intend to remain so.
″Please, Serena, choose the right person. I’m a thousand times better than them, you’re my star,″ he pleaded.
″I’m your star?″ I asked skeptically, looking at him through the window. I waited for him to sink in enough before starting the carriage.
’’Yes, you are the brightest star that exists and will ever exist,” confirmed Lucien with a smile.
J'ouvris alors la portière en acajou de mon véhicule et descendis gracieusement les marches, tandis que le vampire roux devant moi se croyait déjà vainqueur et s'approcha de moi en marchant plus vite que d'habitude pour m'embrasser. J'étais sur le point de le laisser faire, mais juste avant qu'il ne m'atteigne, je posai un doigt sur ses lèvres et lui adressai mon plus beau sourire, un sourire angélique qui pouvait faire croire à n'importe qui que j'étais charmé par lui. Cependant, je lui chuchotai d'un ton tranchant et sadique :
"Alors, comme une star, je resterai hors de ta portée, car je ne te veux pas, Lucien Blanchard."
« Une main a suffi à le faire tomber à mes pieds, étourdi, alors que je me dirigeais vers le véhicule qui m'éloignerait de lui, peut-être pour toujours. La porte se referma devant ses yeux, et la voiture quitta le domaine familial. Mais juste avant de franchir les grilles, j'ai entendu un cri :
"- JE VAIS REJOINDRE L'ARMÉE IMPÉRIALE ET CONQUÉRIR TON CŒUR, SERENA ALBATROZ, TU SERA À MOI !!" Ce furent les derniers mots de Lucien, les plus ridicules, qui me firent éclater de rire avant de me chuchoter avec un sourire satisfait : "- Tente ta chance, Lucien, mais c'est une cause perdue."
