Chapter 1

[TW: Gore, blood, manipulation, all the good (bad) stuff.]

Sapnap pov:

I awoke to my alarm going off.

‘Another dreadful day...’ I thought. I yawned and sat up, rubbing my eye. I looked at the window, noticing it was raining. I cursed under my breath. I threw my blanket off and went to get dressed. Once I was dressed, there was a knock at the door. I sighed and went to see who it was. I unlocked the door and opened it only to see Dream standing there.

“Sap- listen. I want to talk, please.” He said, his voice showing an immense amount of worry and concern.

“What is it, Clay?” I said, a bit annoyed. “I have things to do. Can’t it wait?” He shook his head.

“No! It can’t!” He said, raising his voice a bit. I jolted at the sudden escalation in the situation.

“Then talk.” I crossed my arms and waited. He took a deep breath.

“We need to take a break. Just for a little while. I think we both need to work on ourselves.” He said in a calm tone. I looked at him in disbelief.

“So . . . we’re breaking up?” I asked as if he were joking. He simply nodded his head. I scoffed. “I-”

“Nick, I know you can’t believe it but you really need to work on your temper. You’re quick to get emotional.” Clay said, his hands moving and gesturing. I shook my head.

“No, no. It’s fine. Really. If you’re really leaving, then don’t come back.”

“See? There you go again. Getting all into your feelings!”

“What’d you expect!? You just broke up with me! You think I wouldn’t be upset?!” He laughed sarcastically. We stood there in silence for a few minutes before Clay broke the silence.

“I won’t come back then.” He said. He started to walk away. “Just know, no one will love you if you’re an angry wreck.” I watched him walk off my porch and into the pouring rain. I growled and slammed the door.

“How could he just- He can’t- He- UGH-!” I started geting angrier and angrier. I went to the kitchen and grabbed a glass from the cabinet for a drink, only to have the glass break in my hand from the heat radiating off it. “Ah- fuck!” The glass had cut my hand deeply. I went to the upstairs bathroom for the first aid kit. Once I wrapped my hand, I went back to my room, not even bothering to clean up the broken glass that lay on the kitchen floor.

[April 9th. Karl pov: ]

‘It’s been over two months since I last saw Nick. I wonder if he’s okay...’ I thought to myself. I was in the kitchen making dinner for me and Alex. I yawned as I made the pasta. Just then, I heard a car pull up in the driveway. ‘My boyfriend is home!’ My mind said. I smiled to myself. I turned to stir the sauce for the pasta as Alex walked in the door.

“Hola mi amor.” He said with a smile on his face. I giggled.

“Hey. How was work at the office?”

“Oh, you know, the usual. Slow and boring.” He said, still smiling. I was a bit confused.

“Okay...but then, why are you so happy?” I asked. He came up behind me, hugging me. I laughed. He just stood there hugging me.

“I’m happy because I have good news.” He said, his face being in the crease of my neck. “Well, not good news, great news!” He pulled away and put an envelope in front of me.

“What’s that, Hun?” I tilted my head, not realizing at first. His smile grew wider.

“This is the letter from the adoption agency!” My eyes widened. My heart went through the roof as did my anxiety.

“What’d they say?!” I said, turning off all the burners and facing Alex.

“I- I don’t know! I haven’t opened it yet!” Alex said, his hand shaking a bit. “You open it!”

“Me-?!” I said, shocked. “Why me?!”

“You’re the mother, not me!” He said, pushing the letter to me. I groaned and took the letter in my hands. I sighed before opening the envelope. Once the envelope was open, I took out the letter and began reading. I used my hand to cover my mouth.

“Oh my god...”
