Chapter 1
Pebble paw walked around the camp looking for Tangle paw and Yarrow paw. They were supposed to leave for training soon. Where were they? At the gorge no doubt! She dashed out of camp through the woods towards the gorge.
She saw them there at the edge. She ran up to them. "Guys? We're supposed to be at the training hollow by now! C'mon!" They turned around quickly. "Oh, Pebble paw! There you are!" Yarrow paw meowed nervously. She flicked her tail. there wasn't time to deal with this. She led them to the training hollow.
She saw their mentors: Blizzard tail, Arch stripe and Marsh ear waiting for them. Blizzard tail was pacing around fretfully, as usual. She turned around and dashed toward them as they reached the clearing. "There you are! We've been waiting." She nodded to Arch stripe and Marsh ear. "C'mon. I can show you the duck and roll." she meowed.
After the training session they went into the woods for hunting practice. Pebble paw stalked a mouse all the way into the pack territory. I shouldn't be here! she thought but she went anyway. she had to catch prey for her clan. she dropped into a hunting crouch and pounced right on top of the mouse, killing it with a swift bite to the spine. she headed back after killing a few mor mice and a thrush.
"Great work everyone! Let's head back." Blizzard tail meowed. They headed back to camp and dropped the prey off at the prey pile at the edge of the rock wall. She heard something coming from behind the thorn tunnel. an intruder? a lost animal? an ambush? there were so many possibilities.
She wandered over to the thorn tunnel to check it out. when she came through, she heard a whisper from the forest. "Pebble paw. follow my voice." it said as it led her through the forest. it was almost moonrise! she shouldn't be out this late. Yarrow paw would be worried. But she followed the voice to a small pool of water with a waterfall and a beautiful viewing of the moon.
she saw a cat at the other side of the pool. "Over here!" the voice said, and the cat gestured its tail to her then to its side if the pool. She went over to that side and realized who the cat was. "Yarrow paw!" Pebble paw meowed, surprised. "Yes?" her eyes were filled with a picture of the moon.
"You surprised me. we're you the voice leading me here?" she asked. The beautiful tawney she-cat nodded and wrapped her tail around Pebble paw. She couldn't help but sigh and lay her head on Yarrow paw's shoulder. "Something wrong?" Yarrow paw asked. "No. just thinking about how beautiful the landscape looks." She replied.
"Yea sure is pretty. like you." Yarrow paw meowed. Pebble paw blushed a little. She really liked the tawney she-cat and really wasn't expecting this. "T-thanks Yarrow paw." she meowed. This night was amazing.
