RILEY
*DREAM*
“Riley”.
“Riley”.
“Do you hear me, Riley”? “The time is near”.
Who are you? What is near? The soft voice echoed throughout my head. I was running breathlessly through the forest, sharp stones slash at my feet but I choose to ignore the pain that shot through my leg.
Where are you? I yelled. Why don’t you show yourself?
“I’m you Riley, I’ve been living inside of you, since the day you were born. I’ve always ben a part of you”.
What do you mean? My voice cracked a little, my throat was dry from dehydration. I was exhausted but rest would have to wait. I needed to escape.
“Danger is coming, lives will be lost. But don’t worry, I wouldn’t let them take us. I’ll fight with you, we’re a team, so don’t worry”.
At least tell me your name. “You’ll find that out soon enough, but for now you got to be vigilant, goodbye Riley.
*PRESENT*
Babe? Wake up babe!
I was awakened by harsh shaking on my shoulders, Justin looked worried and the lines on his forehead proved just that. Beads of sweat slowly makes it’s way down the side of his face and strangely I can hear the loud thumping of his heart.
Hmm?
I turned feeling like I hadn’t gotten enough sleep. "Hey morning babe." Is everything ok? “You were twisting and turning in your sleep. Are you ok?"
Huh? Oh sorry.
I sat up a bit straighter, it’s just the same dream again, you know, the two of me. Well, I’m guessing it’s another me, since the voice kinda sounds like mine.
Why do I keep getting them all of a sudden? I looked to him with hopeful eyes.
“I don’t know baby”, you sure you don’t want to see a doctor? “A psychiatrist they can help, if you want them too." I’m not mad Justin and I’m sure, maybe…. Maybe I’m just tired, a little rest would do.
It’s been some months since I tied the knot with Justin and living our happy life with our family and friends. A few days ago, less than two weeks. I started having some weird dream with two of me, over and over.
Danger is coming that’s my only warning and I’m not sure what it means. What danger and who is coming after me? I was offered to see the doctor but refused. I’m not going crazy; I keep chanting to myself. It’s just a dream, they’re harmless. What’s the worst it could do? Call the boogie man?
I sat at the kitchen island, replaying it over in my mind. “Babe?" Justin’s soft voice pulled me out of my trance. “You spaced out again, you sure you don’t want to see a doctor?" They can see what the problem is, I can even go with you if you like... for support."
I told you, I’m fine.
Miles walked in with his usual pleasant smile on his face. “My Luna, I think you should really see_”
I SAID I’M FINE! WHY THE HELL DON’T YOU GUYS GET IT. STOP BUGGING ME. ALL YOU KEEP SAYING, SEE THIS ONE AND THAT ONE, I DON’T NEED HELP!
I was stressing the hell out with all the over worrying; it was sending me crazy.
“My apologies, I’m sorry my Luna, I over stepped."
Immediately, guilt washes over me, he was just trying to help they both were. Miles wait…. I’m sorry I shouldn’t have yelled. It’s just a bit frustrating when everyone is breathing down my neck about seeing a doctor.
I’ll leave you guys alone, I’m going to go for a walk. I leave both men sitting there, Justin’s face lace with a bit of confusion, Miles face show some hurt and a pang of guilt formed in my stomach. Was I being selfish?
I contemplate on whether or not to tell Justin about the dream, while I stroll through the forest. Danger is coming, the words constantly plague my mind. To make the matter worst, I have no idea who is coming after me.
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a shadow pass and figured it must be that of a rabbit or squirrel but then my commonsense kicked in, rabbits nor squirrels are that big.
The hair on the nape of my neck begin to stand while my heart rate picks up. Hello? Anyone there? My mate is an alpha who will whoop your ass.
“Riley”.
What do you want? My fight and flight mode kicks in, my eyes searching frantically through the trees, looking for the face to the voice.
“I’m right here."
My head snaps around so quickly, it would have fallen off my shoulders if it weren’t screwed on tight. I look at the faceless shadow figure hovering off the ground.
Shit be told, you only see these in horror movies.
One word…. Obeah.
“I’ve been waiting for you Riley; I’ve always had my eye on you. The time for your true self is near, you are the key to this war”.
I’m the key to WHAT! Are you out of your goddamn mind? What war?
“The truth about what really happened with this pack, that will help you”.
That will help me.
“I wasn’t directing that part to you my dear”. “There’s more to you, that meets the eye. Don’t you want to know more? About you or your family, the reason why they treated you a certain way."
How the hell do you know about my family. You know nothing! I felt a fiery fury flowing through my veins, I haven’t said anything about those cruel people I had as family.
“You see that’s where you’re wrong. I’ve been watching you since the day you were born. Do you ever question your life when things happen? In two months’, time, on the thirteenth you’ll find out. Mark it on your calendar. In the meantime, try and stay away from humans. I’ll see you soon."
The shadowy figure disappeared into the night. First, it’s weird dreams, a two of me and now this, I think to myself, maybe seeing the packs doctor isn’t such a bad idea. I mean…. What’s the worst that could happen?
