Chapter 1

"How do you feel about a prepaid month vacation for my project?" I asked Liam my Fiancé for a year now. He was a very handsome chocolate dark skinned tall and muscular young man.

"Hmm.." putting down his laptop "a vacation to where?" He inquired.

“The Maldives" I replied.

"Sweet, that's nice when are we going on the trip?" He asked, "but not this week though, I have a very serious business deal that I need to close"

Squinting my eyes and rubbing the back of my neck I answered "ohh, well you see the thing here is I was thinking of going by myself". I managed to get out the heartbreaking words from my mouth.

His expression mirrored confusion and a little bit of hurt well you see Liam and I have been dating for 3 years and we were always together. We travel together, eat and live together so me telling him that I was having a trip by myself must have come as a shock to him.

“By yourself, why?” He asked.

“Well you know Heidi is launching her makeup line in the Maldives and you also know the project for my company that I was working on ‘Do long distance relationships work?’ Right?” I replied with a question.

“Yeah, why?”

“Well, I don’t really know anything about long distance relationships because we’ve never been apart from each other before and I can’t exactly make a research and write about something I don’t fully understand. This is huge for me and my job literally is on the line so this has to be perfect. So the girls came up with the perfect idea, we all go to support Heidi and I take some time away by going on a vacation so we can do a long distance relationship and I can really know what it takes to keep a long distance relationship and if it really does survive. I’ve killed two birds with one stone and you know what they say right, experience is the best teacher” I finished with an awkward laugh.

Hold up! I know what you’re thinking who’s this crazy woman with this stupid idea but don’t worry I’ll introduce myself.

My name is Gia Cosgrey and I’m a light skinned, dimpled, beautiful, 23 year old. I work at ‘Tested and Proven’ it’s a company that tests ideas, concepts, products, anything so people don’t have to and we give reviews we tell you if it’s safe to use or if the ideas and concepts are workable. Hence, the name.

The project do long distance relationships work was a project I was assigned to three days ago and i had just a month to complete it because my job was dangling right before my very eyes. Besides, I’m what people like to consider a perfectionist so I strive to get things done perfectly.

“Babe, I don’t like the idea of you on a vacation without me I don’t want you alone” Liam lamented.

“I know babe me too, but I won’t be alone, I have the girls” I assured him. Leah and Heidi have been my best-friends for 10 years now we met in high school and we’ve been inseparable ever since.

“You know how I feel about Heidi and Leah, they’re bad influences on you” he said.

“No, they’re not babe!” I laughed it off.

“You remember that time they dragged you to the club and you all ended up in sleeping near the dumpster, or that time you all went bowling but bowled your way into jail?” He decided to nitpick at the few mistakes that we’ve made courtesy of alcohol.

Giving an awkward laugh with a warning to drop the conversation, I said “ now, there’s no need to remind me of things I already know Liam, I’ll be careful besides it’s just a girls trip what harm can we cause?” I asked.

“I don’t want to even think about it” he replied. You see Liam was not one to argue with me he always let me have the last word and never dragged things further.

“Great, now be happy for me, I’m going on a vacation!” I nudged him playfully.

“Okay, I’m happy for you but what am I supposed to do without you here?”

“For starters, you can work on closing the deal with those investors from North Korea, then you can go out and have a bit fun you’re such a square” I teased him. He really was a square Liam only knew work, work and me. He didn’t have anything else going on in his life while I on the other hand was the life of the party. I was everywhere and I wasn’t afraid of exploring new things. That’s what i had in huge contrast with Liam but I loved him regardless.

“Yeah, but I’ll miss you” he said dragging me onto his laps.

“ I’ll miss you too babe but I think this would be good for us” I cupped his face.

He nodded. “Great, you agree now I’ll go pack my bags I leave tomorrow” I told him.

He was shocked “tomorrow? Isn’t that too soon?” He asked.

“I know but the sooner I’m done with this project, the earlier I can come back besides Heidi’s launch of ‘Hei Beauty’ is in two days so we need a head start”, I used my most convincing voice.

He groaned “I’m not okay with this Gia but I love you and support you, so I’ll endure” he said.

“Thank you” I appreciated him.

“I heard there are a lot of men in the Maldives” he pouted. He was so cute.

I laughed, “if anyone comes close to me I’ll put my hand up and say ‘I have a fiancé and he’s loco’ and if they’re still persistent, I’ll say ‘I’m pregnant’. I laughed oh, my jealous man. He legit is an overprotective fiancé that I loved with all my heart.

“You promise?” He asked.

“Yes, I promise, now wipe that sour look off your face and come help me pack”. I stood up and dragged him to his feet and into our bedroom.

Minutes into the packing and I was already frustrated all I was hearing was ‘too short’, ‘too revealing’, and I was frustrated “babe at this point I won’t take any clothes”. I lamented to him.

“But it’s true they’re too short of revealing” he replied.

He walked into my closets and pulled out dresses that even my grandma wouldn’t wear on vacation.

“Here how about these they’re perfect”, he hung them over my body. I threw him a massive side eye and threw him out of the room, ignoring all his shouts of protest.

“I don’t even know why I asked him to help me pack” I said under my breath as I closed the door and went back to continue by packing that we’re trying to be made futile by Liam.

After an hour and a half of tedious packing, I smiled at the progress I had made and made my way to the kitchen to make dinner but that had already been covered by Liam. I smiled and walked over hugging him from the back.

“Smells delicious thank you” I smiled into his back.

He turned to face me, kissed my forehead and placed the food on the counter.

“I’ll miss this” I admitted.

“So you’ll stay?”

I laughed “nice try, I’ll be back soon”. I told him.

He sighed “at least I tried, oh, could you tell Heidi I hope her launch works out well” he requested.

“Sure” I agreed.

We ate, freshened up, prayed and went to bed. Tomorrow, my adventure was going to begin and I was both nervous and pumped.
