What race are the characters?
"I found it very hard to picture the characters in this book. At the start there was a lot about hair and eyes but given that it was in America. I pictured anglo-Saxons. Then there is a mention of dark skin so they became olive like Hispanic. Then Alex’s mum has an Afro and dark skin so everyone became African Americans with very specific shoes. Weirdly I ended up picturing everyone from the Caribbean like the tv show death in paradise. I really liked the story but without being able to picture what the characters looked like it lost the magic for me."
