In this world, light reigns. At least, that's what they want you to think. Thirteen-year-old Ells goes looking for the darkness, a power that could bring back her sister, but when she finds it, it's more than she feared. Once you're in, there's no way to stop it.

Ells sighs. "How many times do I have to tell you, Gabby? If you keep wandering, someone will catch you. And you know..."
Her voice trails off, unable to finish.
If she said that Gabby was Darkness out loud, that would just make it realer.

"I know you do. But would you rather know or stay alive?"
"Okay..." Gabby had promised.
