“She is sleeping again?” Ethan smiled as he walked towards the corner table at the school library with two cups of coffee in his hands.
“Ivy” he gently patted her shoulder “You need to finish this chapter if you don’t want to fail the chemistry test tomorrow.”
“Right, I need to ace this test so that my mom will finally buy me the phone I wanted” she shot up
Ethan chuckled softly, looking at her
“What happened now? A monkey dancing on my head?” she asked, sarcastically.
He pulled out a tissue, wiped off the drool around her mouth, lifted his hand hesitantly, and pointed at her hair, smiling awkwardly.
“Ah. My hair?” she said as she fixed her hair. “Looks much better now, doesn’t it?”
“Yeah,” he laughed and sat down next to her.
She ruffled his hair “Now let’s get back to studying”
“Y-y-yeah we totally should” he quickly said.
The next day, they both walked out with the other students after their test.
“I think I totally flunked my test,” Ivy said, trailing behind Ethan.
“You tried your best, didn’t you?” he asked, putting his hands on her shoulders.
“I did, but ‘my best’ is not enough to get the score that can get me that phone” She dropped her head.
“You did better than last time” he reassured her “Improvement is what matters”
“I guess so” she murmured.
“I’ll go buy ice cream for us, wait here,” he said.
“STOP” she shouted as he turned around
“Which ghost possessed you all of a sudden?” he turned towards her, shocked
“I will buy ice cream. You bought coffee yesterday” she said and ran without even letting Ethan say a word.
He smiled and walked towards the bench “Always full of surprises”
“Why are you always with her?” he heard a cold voice.
“Noah?” he thought to himself
He turned around. He was right. It was Noah
“I know that you like Ivy but she is mine so you better stay away from her,” Noah said
“What do you mean I like her?” Ethan asked “She is my best friend and I don’t need to ask you to be with my friend”
“Stop acting up you punk. I know you like her”
“And what if I do-” Ethan started but Noah punched him before he could say anything more
Ethan fell behind. “Ouch”
“Hurts, doesn’t it?” Noah asked “It should”
“If Ivy gets to know you punched me, you won’t even have a slight chance of being able to go out with her, not that you have a chance anyways”
“You-”
“Noah!!” Ivy shouted. “What the hell do you think you are doing?”
“Ivy-” Noah started.
“Shut it” she snapped “If you touch Ethan once again, I will break your hands”
“What you waiting for, get going before she gets angrier,” Ethan said softly.
“Are you alright?” Ivy ran towards Ethan.
“I’m fine don’t worry about me,” Ethan said.
“By the way, I heard everything Noah said,” Ivy said.
“Wha-” Ethan panicked slightly “How-” “Didn’t you go to the shop to buy ice cream?
“Yeah, but the shop was closed so I came back to tell you and that’s when I heard all this”
“Ivy-” Ethan started.
“I don’t need an explanation,” Ivy said.
“I just don’t want our friendship to-”
Before he could even finish his sentence, Ivy gave him a peck on the cheek.
He froze.
“We can be best friends even if we start dating, can’t we?” she smiled.
Ethan stood frozen
“Dating-” he stuttered “What do you mean?”
“I love you too, you idiot” she laughed.
