Chapter One: The Idea
Luna Adira did not like her new apartment. The neighbors were loud, everything was messy, and the lights barely worked. But it was all she and her best friend, Dawn Griffin, could afford. Both she and Dawn had finally become old enough to get out of the local orphanage, since no-one had wanted to adopt them, and they were now eighteen. So they had rented an apartment and needed jobs to pay for it. Of course, they didn't exactly have jobs yet, though. Minor details.
Luna had lived in New York with her mom until she was four, when she and her mom decided to move to Britain. Then her mom got sick and died, leaving Luna to fend for herself. She met another orphan and her best friend, Dawn, a few days later in the park one day. They decided to live together out in the streets and help each other, but soon they were caught by the local orphanage. Anyways, that wasn't important now. "Well, I mean, it doesn't look to bad," Dawn said, sitting down on one of the beds. It creaked threateningly and she stood up hastily. "Heh. Well, it's better than nothing." She said, sighing and setting her bag down next to her bed. "Yeah, I guess." Luna said, eyeing the apartment and setting her bag down, too.
"But what are we gonna do about jobs?" "No clue." Dawn said. "But we have to pay off our rent some how..." She sat down gingerly on the edge of her bed, then glanced out of the window. "Do... do you feel up to our old tricks?" She said slowly, staring out of the window. "What? You don't mean..." Luna stood up and followed her bestie's gaze out the window and down onto...
"The British Museum of History?" She said, spotting the large building. "I don't like it, but..." Dawn said, hesitating. "It's the only way to get enough money to pay off the rent we owe in time." Dawn bit her lip, frowning. Luna crossed her arms and stared down at the museum. "The richest place would probably be the Egyptian section." Luna said. "But we don't need that much." Dawn said, fiddling with the little sunflower patch on her boot. "I know, but it's the easiest place to find something small and sellable. Like a pot or something, an item they won't notice missing." Luna said, putting her hands into the pockets of her grey hoodie. "We'll do it tonight." "Alright, just don't get distracted." Dawn said, a small smile flicking across her face as she tried to lighten the mood. Luna managed a smile back, but turned away from the window. First week of freedom... and we're getting into trouble again.
