Prologue

I awoke from slumber with the first rays of sunlight casting a golden hue upon my chamber. A concoction of elation and trepidation coursed through my veins as I hastened downstairs, my petite feet barely touching the steps. The office door, adorned with polished brass, beckoned me to enter.

A tableau of letters lay upon my father’s escritoire, each an enigma to be unraveled. But my eyes, keen and discerning, alighted upon one in particular. Its pristine white facade, sealed with molten gold wax, bespoke a special significance. My fingers trembled with anticipation as I reached out to seize it, cradling it close to my bosom.

With hurried steps, I ascended the staircase, my youthful voice bursting forth like a skylark in the morn. “Mama, papa, I bear tidings!” I exclaimed, my words a symphony of joy and eagerness. My siblings, roused by the commotion, gathered around, their countenances mirroring my own breathless anticipation. Their presence added an enchanting harmony to the room.

Silence draped the air as I gingerly unfolded the missive, my hands betraying their tremor. The letters, meticulously penned, danced before my eyes, each stroke imbued with a weighty import. The anticipation crescendoed, akin to the gathering tempest, before it was revealed.

“I have been accorded entry! Aquilon awaits my presence!” I whispered, my voice a wistful murmur. Awe and disbelief intertwined like tendrils of ivy within my being. It was as if the world, in that fleeting moment, unveiled its secrets, and I, a young voyager, stood on the cusp of grand discoveries.

My family erupted into rapturous applause, their felicity resonating like a jubilant symphony. Laughter filled the room, as if bubbles of mirth cascaded in harmonious delight. Warm embraces and jubilant exclamations enveloped me, ensconcing my heart in a tender embrace. In that singular moment, the shadows of doubt and anxiety were vanquished, replaced by a triumphant illumination.

As I stand here, dear reader, recalling that momentous morning, I can’t help but interrupt the tale for a moment of reflection. I am reminded of the delicate thread that intertwines life and death, casting its shadow upon our journey. It was indeed a joyous occasion, filled with hope and excitement. Little did I know then, as my family applauded and celebrated, that it would also mark the beginning of one of the most unfortunate and perilous journeys a child could ever undertake. Oh, the twists and turns that awaited me, like a treacherous maze where danger lurked at every corner.

But let us not dwell on the darker path just yet. After all, this is only the beginning, and I, your humble narrator and guide through this labyrinth of misfortunes, must keep you entertained. So, back to the story we go.

Surrounded by those dear to me, I recognized the dawn of a transformative odyssey. The anticipation swelled within, akin to a swell of the vast ocean, while a fervent resolve imbued my spirit. Aquilon, shrouded in its enigmatic tapestry, awaited my arrival. Its riddles and trials beckoned, and I, fortified by familial love, stood resolute.

In unity, with Mama, papa, and my cherished siblings by my side, I exuded an unwavering confidence. A tapestry of familial devotion, intricately woven, emboldened my soul. We were an unyielding consortium, poised to confront the ordeals that lay ahead.

I’ve read a lot of shifter stories & this is the first where someone’s mating mark can be removed after a rejection? It’s details like that, that make this s...

musa moo: Its a sweet story. The writing is very good. The only thing I found wanting was the structurisation. Whenever there was a change in scenario or situation, I wish there was some kind spacing or something to indicate that there's a change ahead. Because of that it became a bit confusing in the middle ...
