Chapter 1

The drip-drop sound of water from the leaking roof and the sound of cameras flashing are the only sounds heard throughout the room. The cold wind blew through the broken glass of the already broken window and into the entire room making the room inhabitable for any form of life. Even the walls of the room cannot bear such low temperature but in that cold room, that chilly situation lies a woman, a young girl to be more precise who with a fervent spirit and a shabby blanket overcomes the cold. A pool of what seems to be blood makes a rather beautiful design near her. A glance at her and she looks absolutely peaceful, almost too peaceful but a closer look and one could see that she was lifeless with her chest cut open, some words engraved on her forehead and the bottom part of her ears gone. Detectives Ahmed and Steve walks into the room and the look of fear is clearly evident on their faces.

"Is it just me but did the air suddenly become colder" Steve acclaimed. Det. Ahmed bends to the level of the body

"What kind of maniac would do such a thing? I mean I thought things like this only happens in movies and those developed countries not here. I mean I'm not against you killing, it's human nature but at least not in this brutal way" she said in anger as she returns to her standing position. She turns to Steve

"wait, have you IDed the victim?"

"Yeah, Jacob Isioma, 23, reported missing 3 days ago" "Wait, what's her name again?"

"Isioma" "Holy shit! That's what's written in her forehead" Det. Ahmed said with horror written all over her face

You're not serious right"

"Take a look for yourself" Steve bends to the level of the corpse and the look that was on Det. Ahmed's face is mirrored on his own face. He goes back to his standing position and sighs "shit is scary. What kind of lunatic does such a thing?" He asked shocked and scared. Det. Ahmed turns to him

"at least we know one thing's for sure"

"And what's that?"

"The killer was somebody she knew. Look into her family, friends and acquaintances she met with for the last 3 days" she said while walking out of the scene and into her car "see you at the office" she told Steve and drove off.

The National Bureau of Criminal Investigation is an organization responsible for handling serious crimes that police cannot handle alone. It's the Nigerian equivalent of the FBI and where Det. Ahmed works. It is known to house the most dangerous and ruthless criminals in all of Nigeria because it is more secured than any other prison.Amina walks into the building and into the office. The NBCI is a three storey building with the offices at the second floor and third floor. The first floor is the prison which holds the inmates. There's a huge yard at the back of the building for the sporting activities of inmates. Amina makes her way to the elevator and makes way to her office. Before she could get to her office, she meets Jeffery, the captain of the squad

"Amina, we have a meeting with the director in 5 minutes about the recent murder so better be prepared because you're giving the presentatin"

"Will do cap* Jeffery left and she enters her office and opens a file and starts reading.

At the round table, dignitaries of all steps of the social ladder is present because of the recent incident. The inspector of Police probably the most nervous and anxious of them all

"I'm Det. Ahmed-Johnson Amina and I'll start the briefing of the recent murder" she types some keys on her laptop "Jacob Isioma, 23, a 300level marketing student at the University of Lagos. She was reported missing 3 days ago by her father and at 1:30pm today was found dead at an empty one bedroom flat in the outskirts of Ikoyi" she pressed another key on her laptop and a picture came into view "As you can see, her chest is open and it's believed that excess bleeding as a result of the cutting of her chest is the cause of death but it has not been confirmed. There are no defense wounds which makes us believe that she knew her killer." She said and pressed another key on her laptop and another picture comes to view "the marks on her wrists and ankles indicates that she was tied up with a rope or she was chained. We are still waiting on the NFA for the autopsy report* she concluded and sat down

"We need to act fast before the killer kills again. Squad 3 you guys are in charge,I need results so we can apprehend this guy" the director instructed

"Yes sir"

"And make it discreet, we don't the public to be in panic" The inspector of Police adds before getting up and leaving

"That's all for today. Get to work" the director instructed and everybody left leaving just squad 3 in the room

"You heard the man, Amina, find out when she went missing and if she usually runs away from home. Steve and Nicholas go to her school and talk to everyone that knew her and everyone she knew, coursemates even her lecturers. We need to identify a suspect as soon as possible" "Yes sir" they replied and left.
