Summary

Henry was finally settled into that perfect life he'd always dreamed of. Everything seemed to be going well for him. Every day he was making new milestones in research that he believed could change the world. He just needed a bit more time to prove that his theories were correct. Out of nowhere, he makes a shocking new discovery. But instead of eagerness to learn more, all he wants is to escape it. Soon enough, however, he finds that what he thought he'd known wasn't all that true anymore. And so, he is faced with a choice: fight it off and save his life, or feed his curiosity and let it consume him. Chase his dreams of making the world a better place, or become a danger instead. Any last hint of hope he had left was erased when his secret was discovered after an incident. Now, he had no choice but to uproot his life and get as far away as possible, venturing beyond everything he'd ever known. Journeying into the massive world beyond the sanctuary of his home. No job, no food, no clothes, and no friends (which Henry had worked exceptionally hard for). All he had was himself, and his terrible secret. On his journey, Henry makes a few new friends, and many new enemies, while he runs for his life without even knowing if it's worth it to keep on living. But eventually, he'll have to stop running, and face his enemies. Or worse, face himself.

Prologue

We call them Parasites.

Because that is what they are:

An invasive species which people know very little about. They live in hosts ranging from pea-sized insects to colossal elephants and-

And humans. This was only recently discovered by none other than myself.

Once they enter the body of the given host, it only takes a short amount of time before it is completely destroyed; unsustainable for the parasite, and therefore unsuitable. That is when it leaves the host and chooses a new one.

This is the only information mankind has: they choose a host, take over its body, the host dies because it cannot carry two life forms, and the parasite moves on to another victim.

That is-until god created people like me.

Now, I have never been much of a firm believer in things. Namely, gods and beings with a higher power. All of my life I only knew things, based on factual evidence. There wasn’t really any evidence backing up the existence of God, or gods.

However, after the hell I have been living for these past few months, I imagine there is something greater out there.

Rather, I hope there is… Because if not, there is no point in going through this agony day after day if in the end, it will all be for nothing.

My name is Henry Albus. I am a doctor. But not the kind who helps people. Rather, I am putting them at risk just by existing.

For ten years, I have devoted myself to studying parasites in hopes of ridding the world of all of the suffering they have caused. I always wished for a way to learn more, because dead ends were all I was finding in my research.

I never imagined that something like this could happen to me. I suppose you really do get what you wish for.

I warn you to be cautious of these things, because you never know when your life might get flipped upside-down and everything you ever knew or believed in changes.

That is what happened to me.
