A great story- I wish it was longer!
"Likes: -Love the sensitive portrayal of a character with a visible difference, often it is used as a lazy symbol or metaphor or they are portrayed as villains/not a romantic lead so that was refreshing to see. As Lance's son inherited the condition, this would imply something genetic- did you have a particular condition in mind or is it strictly a fictional/magical thing? That would be something to consider if you lengthened the story. - Love that both characters are sexually inexperienced but gradually explore, understand consent and become confident with each other, breaking down sexual shame -Really like the idea of a male character raised in the wilderness by women, so has largely avoided the misogyny that 'civilised' people like Tate have shown, a show of healthy masculinity. -The descriptions of Lance trying to understand human love via animals was funny and also very natural -The dialogue felt very natural between the two main characters, there was no annoying miscommunication and good moments of tension -Enjoyed the use/disruption of the mountain man trope. I also thought it was subverting the typical Beauty and the Beast style story as Lance may live in a primitive way but he's not beastly at all, the main character chooses to stay with him and finds freedom (and Tate is the worst version of Gaston ever). To work on: -Constant use of the second person in the present tense is a little tricky to read as it is usually used to make a scene feel immediate/ make the events unfolding seem urgent and hard for a character to process. Using this throughout can mean the switch between POVs gets confusing occasionally and the pacing feels rushed during moments of calm. -I want more story!! What was Lance's childhood like? What was the main characters' life like beforehand? Does anyone try to find them again or does anything happen to their house at the end? What happens when they have to come in contact with other people? Do their children eventually make contact with others? -The constant description of how physically tiny the FC is can be a little repetitive and is done quite a lot in the mountain man trope/romance generally. It is a very specific kind of femininity that lots of readers can't relate to (a problem when you're writing in 2nd person, because that encourages you to self-insert as a reader). -The end felt rushed- it was too convenient and felt like you wanted to just get to the happy end. Also how did the village not try to go after them? Eight people died, that's enough for people to travel for days or let other villages know, there needs to be a sense of risk. -Is there any type of magic in the world you built? Lance's second mother is a witch so I'd be interested to see this explored, as the time period and setting seems unclear. "

Alone
"Sweet tale about learning to see beyond the obvious. Lovingly done suitable for young adults and adults alike. Born with a deformity lance thinks he is hideous. Can a scared young woman change his mind about himself? Lovely story with lots of emotional growth. "

Like a spicy hallmark

Sweet
"It's a very sweet story. In the beginning you can't help but worry about what kind of trauma she is going to go through, but then you get to witness the growth between the two. Not just into a maturity that both are lacking from either age, experience or socially, but as a couple. "
