Bee Balm
Etta-Mae's POV
Hello, my name is Etta-Mae but most people just call me Etta or Mae. I am originally from Louisiana but I kinda am running away to New York.
I feel bad about it but I got away from him so I guess that makes it a little better. I used to actually love him, his name is George by the way, we sorta dated my freshman year of highschool. When we started dating he was a junior. I thought that it was sooo cool to have an older boyfriend who was the football captain. I was always invited to team dinners and post-game parties. A year later he decided that we should live together, since he was a legal adult and my parents were never home they allowed me to stay with him. After I moved in is when it got bad. It started with name calling and kinda pushing me around. After he hit me he always said that it was a love tap and that I should know it didn't mean anything serious. It got so bad that I almost couldn't walk across the stage for my graduation. I never really had any friends so no one noticed anything.
I only started to think about leaving about a month ago when he brought some friends over to have "fun"... lets just say that it was not fun.
I look over my shoulder to re-read the train sign so I don't miss the stop I wan't to get off at. Don't ask me why I thought that New York City, New York would be the best place for me to escape to. I impulsivley chose it because bigger city = harder to find or that's how it worked in my brain. All I need to do is find a place to work and a place to live. That shouldn't be hard right?
I exited the station and made my way up the stairs I'm going to try and find a library so that I can look for jobs on the computer. I'm not stupid, I knew that I should get rid of my phone so that George couldn't track me. George had some kind of tie into a gang which is why he "worked" the weird hours he did.
I walk down the street a little until I get to a sign that tells me where I am at.
After walking for a little bit I finally find the library. I swear I've been walking for hours. Ok this may not have been the best idea of my life. As I walk in I spot a nice looking older lady sitting at the desk.
"Good evening dear, what are you looking for?" she asks. "Hi, I'm looking for your computers?" I returned. "Oh! Yes they are over in the corner. And just a reminder we close at 9:00 tonight." Oh shit was it really that late? It was obviously dark outside but I didn't think it was that late. I'm honestly kinda of surprised that this library is still open this late.
Alright alright enough banter let's go find me a job.
-10 minutes later-
OMG this is kinda hard. I mean I really love kids so I kinda want to be a nanny or babysitter but half of these people want a college degree, which I do not have.
I heard some giggling coming from behind me so I turned around to see the cutest little girl I have ever seen. I love kids so much I wish I had some of my own but I need to get myself on my feet and I need to find a good man. That last part might take a hot minute though.
I got up and walked over to her and kneeled down so I was infront of her.
"Hi sweetie! What are you doing here by yourself?" I ask the little girl. "I's hiding from Uncle G" she manages to get out between her giggling.
I look through the bookshelf to see a man pacing through the isle looking for something, or someone.
"Rosabella where are you?! God damnit I can't believe I lost her in a library Boss is gonna kill me!" the man says in a panicked but hushed tone. The little girl beside me, who I belive is Rosabella by what this man called her, continues to giggle louder and harder almost breaking out in a full belly laugh. The man is still too panicked to hear her giggling as he pulls out his phone to call his boss I guess?
I guess I can get over my fear of men for a second and save this guys life right?
after the mini battle in my head I decide to turn the little girl in.
"Excuse me sir, are you looking for someone?" I speak shakily, barely above a whisper.
"Actually yes, I lost my friend's daughter did you happen to see her somewhere?" he asks sorta relieved as he pulls out his phone to show me a picture of the giggling child I met moments earlier.
"Oh! She's actually behind that book case right now." I say revealing the small girls hiding spot.
"My friend is actually looking for someone to take care of her right now. I know this is a really dumb question but are you looking for a job?" he questions while rubbing the back of his neck.
Holy shit he can read minds. I mean he's not bad looking so I guess I wouldn't mind working for his friend.
"You see with our job he doesn't exactly have all day to take care of her and her mom isn't really in the picture. And I really don't want to be stuck taking care of a three year old on a daily basis."
Oooohhhh so he's in charge of her right now...
I mean it's worth a shot, I will be just fine avoiding his friend because he has to work weird hours.
"I accept"...
