Chapter 1
Isaac’s POV
A fog had fallen over the trees that lined the road. The sky was a boring grey as I drove down this lonely road. The smell of rain cleaved through the aromatic scent of the pine trees. My eyes relaxed as I thought of all the responsibility the Southern Conference placed on my shoulders. My best friend and right-hand man sat in the passenger seat as he placed his hand out the window to feel the cool, misty air.
As we drove through the fog, Alan broke the comfortable silence.
“So, why are we doing this again? I mean, I was perfectly content with not doing this at all.”
He did not look my way, only staring in the trees.
“To keep unity within the smaller communities. It is good to see the Royals that lead in your home country. It gives people hope and security.”
“I understand that, but why such a remote part of the country? Wolves do not live this far south.”
Alan had a point. Our unfortuate circumstances made us lose territory though countless wars against other supernatural creatures but thanks to treaties Wolves are moving back to their ansestrial land.”
“True but the ones we are meeting today are from this region, and the way they do things is a bit different. We need to investigate if it is a threat to our way of life. This is important, Alan. I know you would really rather be home with Raina.” I replied, smiling at the end.
Alan and Raina were together, and I got a kick out of embarrassing them. Especially Alan, who became extremely possessive over her. I would push the boundaries just to see him squirm and growl. To me, it was hilarious. For a long time, he hid her from everyone, even I wasn’t allowed to be near her, but he seems to have settled down. All three of us hang out together regularly.
“Shut up, why do I even bother talking to you?” Alan said, rolling his eyes, knowing that this was going to be a long car ride.
I laughed and continued driving. It would be another 3 hours before we got to the hotel, where the meeting was taking place.
“I will say, this part of the territories, are beautiful. It’s very alluring, wouldn’t you say, Alan?” I asked, taking my eyes off the road to look at the tall pine trees that stretched for miles.
To me, they were like a painted picture, one of the Goddess’s more beautiful creations.
“Yeah, in a very creepy sort of way,” Alan replied, still staring out of the passenger window.”
“Let’s listen to some music, maybe then the car ride will go faster, and we can get home faster,” Alan said, fiddling with the stereo knob.
I smiled and shook my head, knowing he just wanted to get back to Raina.
“Are you kidding? Where is the rock station?” Alan cried as he continuously searched for a good station.
I started laughing, “Well, we are in the south. This area was rulled exclusively by the gnomes for decades. What did you expect?”
Alan grunted and turned off the radio entirely. Pouting in the passenger seat like a child.
This is going to be a long drive.
3 hours later
We arrived at the hotel in the middle of a smallish town. Small clans scattered all around the territory and we were there to meet their leaders.
We parked the car in a small parking garage nearby. The car doors shut causing an echo to reverberate inside. Around it had small resturants, clothing stores. All were ran by citizens of this Clan that held this conference. Every was like a ma and pop store. Everywhere I looked, I never found a corporate buisness.
Alan and I walked to the street when everything stopped. A strange sweet smell wafted over to me. I stopped dead in my tracks. I didn’t know what it was or what to do to find the source. Alan saw my reaction and grinned ear to ear.
“Dude, I know that face, you found her.” He whispered.
I turned to him and gathered my composure even though my mind raced frantically. Whether it be a curse or a blessing, wolves have a destined other half. Alan’s other half is Raina and he turned into a possessive boyfriend, unable to think clearly for months. Although, I would be esstatic to meet my destined someone, today was not a goo time. The Conference today was to vring these small Wolf clans into the fold under my umbrella of protection.
My title is The Alpha of the North. The entire Northern Continent is my territory and property. The Clans that live there all work for me and the land that i rule over. I am basically a King. Today, I am to try to talk to the southern Clans since they are part of The Alpha of the North’s continent just the southern most part before it gets to the Vampires domain.
“Yes, maybe it is my one and only, but we still have a job to do. Once that’s done, I’ll go find her until then let’s get this meeting over with.”
I spun on my heels and began to walk. I was pretty good at keeping my self together and not showing any emotion, but now with this intoxicating smell hitting my nostrils every time I took a breath, it was difficult.
I wanted to run to her, to see what she looked like, and break every wall down to get to her, but I couldn’t. Now is not the time. She will still be there, waiting for me. I will find her even if it kills me.
Alan and I walked side by side to the “nicest hotel in the Piney Woods,” and all I could think about was her.
