Chapter 1
As Forest stepped into the cozy café in rural Truro, he couldn’t shake off the feeling of the town’s eerie silence. The locals exchanged glances, their whispers muted the moment he walked in.
Forest approached the counter hesitantly, where a plump woman named Annie greeted him cheerfully. “What can I get you today, love?”
Forest leaned in closer, his voice tinged with curiosity and unease. “Annie, have you ever heard of a magic rock? One that can...change things?”
Annie’s eyes widened for a moment before she pretended to adjust her apron, her voice barely above a whisper. “You should talk to Wenna Connor. She knows more than anyone about strange occurrences around here.”
Curiosity gnawing at him, Forest made his way to Wenna’s small cottage on the outskirts of town. He knocked on her door and found himself face-to-face with a rather peculiar-looking woman.
“Wenna,” Forest said cautiously, “I need to know about this magic rock I found. It’s causing strange things to happen.”
Wenna studied him for a moment before gesturing for Forest to enter her dimly lit living room. “Sit,” she said, motioning towards an old armchair covered in worn velvet.
Forest sat down uneasily as Wenna settled herself across from him in a rocking chair. Silence enveloped them until she finally spoke.
“Forest, that magic rock holds unimaginable power,” she started gravely. “It has ties to a dark secret this town has guarded for centuries.”
Forest felt his heart pounding as he edged closer to Wenna, desperate for answers. “Tell me everything.”
Wenna leaned forward and fixed her piercing eyes on him. “This town thrives on stolen energy - stolen life force,” she whispered solemnly. “The magic rock? It’s the key to their wicked scheme.”
Fear gripped Forest’s heart as his mind raced with the implications. “What do they want with me?”
Wenna smiled, though it held no warmth or reassurance. “They want your voice, Forest. Your talent. And they’ll stop at nothing to get it.”
With each word, the suspense tightened around Forest like a vice. The truth that unraveled before him was more horrifying than he could have ever imagined.
Little did he know that as he ventured deeper into the heart of Truro’s secret, danger lurked around every corner, threatening to consume him and his very essence.
