Chapter 1
CHAPTER 1:
The cold wind of the silent night blew gently over the city. The darkness covered her whole, like a thick furry blanket, never to be removed. The destruction and chaos lay buried deep in this dangerous world but no one could stop it.
Sirens of the police cars as they chased another criminal they'll eventually let go, blared loudly down the street, breaking the tranquility of the city.
The ominous feel of the city was like those campfire stories, told mainly to give the kiddies the jitters. A typical nightmare that no matter how hard you tried, you can never escape.
The only sounds that could be heard was the constant
clack! Clack! Clack! o
f heels as the lady in the huge coat made her way through the streets.
It was quiet, dangerous for a lady to be out on her own in the darkness of the city, much less in a place like this.
Her heart hammered in her chest as she clutched her coat for dear life as she walked swiftly to her abode. Fear gripped her from every corner of her mind, body and soul. The memories came rushing back and she could do nothing but let it play over and over and over again in her head.
Running now, she finally reached her safe place. Her home. The only one she'd known for the past six years. But it can't hide her anymore. They'll find her. They'll execute her. Privately, she hoped but knew that would be too easy of a punishment.
Slamming the door shut and locking it for safety measures, Andoria slid down to the floor as she felt dizzy and nauseous of the circumstances of today. Nothing could have prepared her for what she learned today but she knew from her cases. It was always the ones you least expect.
With shaky limbs, Andoria got off from the nest she'd formed for herself on the floor and headed to the living room. Turning on the TV, she tuned to the news channel to watch the news of the story.
Nothing.
'
They know nothing'. S
He thought to herself.
She couldn't help but smile cynically as the female newscaster spoke to the police who assured the viewers that they were on the matter.
Her head ached as image after image flashed in her head. Andoria screamed in frustration and anger, at herself, the people she regarded important, the yappy police official talking on the other side of the screen. She took in deep breaths to calm herself as she ran her fingers over her disheveled hair.
She knew she needed a bath, she needed to get all the grime of the day off of her and she had to do it quickly.
Running to the bathroom, she stripped off her clothes and hopped into the shower. The cold water soothed her burning skin. She couldn't help the tears that spilled out her eyelids.
What's gonna happen now? She thought to herself, scrubbing her body repeatedly till it became blotchy and red.
Getting out of the bath, Andoria mindlessly got dressed in her nightgown and laid on her bed. Wrapping the blanket so tightly 'round her body in hopes of suffocating, Andoria difted off to a dreamless sleep.
They'd kill me too. Just like the rest. She thought as she closed her eyes for the night.
Four Months Earlier:
The applause was loud and the cheers echoed through the whole building. The Chief of Police had just announced the promotion of Andoria Davison.
Andoria proudly walked up to the podium and stood before her colleagues. Of course not everyone was pleased with this result. Some couldn't help but scoff at the lady as she walked but she couldn't be bothered about her haters at a time like this.
Taking the microphone and clearing her throat, she decided to give a little speech.
"I'm very thankful to Chief Earl for giving me this wondrous opportunity and I'm grateful to all of you present. I'll continue to do my best always". She ended it with a sweet smile.
Andoria Davison is your typical model employee. At the age of twenty six, she had achieved a lot of things in her life. Every where she went she knew how to make people like her. She had an easy going personality and was free with everyone.
She had a perfectly smooth oval shaped face and her pink cupid's arrow lips always held a smile. She had bright hazel almond shaped eyes that noone could get out in. Her brunette hair was at waist length when let down which made her look even more attractive.
As Andoria went about her day, she kept on getting congratulated from all her peers which kept her in a good mood.
She entered her new office and glanced around with a smile etched on her face. Her cheeks had started to hurt from all the smiling she'd been doing.
Her phone rang and her smile couldn't have been wider when she saw the caller's ID.
"Hey Dori". Her husband Lorenzo called out when she answered the phone.
"Hi. What's up". She answered.
"Is it bad for me to call my sweetheart now?
Especially when I heard she got promoted?" He said.
"How'd you know?" She said then sighed like she just realized it. "Daryll ruined the surprise".
"Don't blame him. He's my best mate. Anyways Congrats love. I'm taking you for lunch". Lorenzo said.
"Alright darling. Call me when you get here". Andoria said.
"Doctor Sailor, your nine o'clock is here". A lady said from the other end of Lorenzo's phone.
He gave a thumbs up in reply as he continued his chat with his wife.
"That's Rita right?" Andoria asked as she heard the lady's voice.
"Yup. I gotta go, my patient just arrived. See you in a bit babe". He said and disconnected the call.
Lunch time came by quickly as Andoria busied herself with the paperwork stacked on her desk. She didn't hear the door to her office open as she worked.
A palm came down and slammed hard against her table. Andoria was startled a bit as she looked up.
"Well if it isn't the lucky duckling". Talia sneered down at Andoria. "You're just a no-good goody two shoes, Dori. It's a wonder how you got a promotion in such a little time".
It was no secret how Talia felt about Andoria. Jealousy. Talia was deeply jealous. Andoria had always been the bright student even back through their college days. She had the perfect husband, Lorenzo Sailor, a renowned neurosurgeon. She was diligent and hardworking and was very likeable.
Where as Talia was the opposite. A party animal with poor taste of life. Lazy and spiteful. She was an entitled lady that grew up with a lavishly silver spoon in her mouth.
Andoria stared incredulously at Talia as she stared daggers at her.
"Green isn't your colour, Talia, trust me". She said with a satisfied smile.
"Why you... " Talia sputteted but no inteligeable words formed.
"You question why I got a promotion, why don't you ask yourself why you didn't, we were in the same boat, yes?" Andoria said cooly.
Talia's face burned with rage but she knew she couldn't intimidate Andoria. She turned abruptly and left the office.
Andoria let out a frustrated breath and looked at the time. Lorenzo would be here any minute. She adjusted her clothes and hair. Her husband was the best.
She headed out the office and went down to the exit of the building. Sure enough, Lorenzo's car was parked out there waiting for her. Andoria smiled at her husband lovingly as she made her way to his car.
