Chapter 1
The winds had picked up as the leaves traveled across the surface of the land. The rain clouds had appeared as it had started to rain. Within a kingdom stood a worried man, walking back and forth as his wife was about to give birth. His heart was racing in his chest as his short, straight, brown hair reached his mid back. He was tall, handsome, and very toned. He wore a cape of arms that had reached the ground as he wore a body of armor as he had just returned from battle. His soft, blue, eyes glanced over at the door as he continued to hear his wife screaming. It was an arranged marriage, a forced marriage as he had never truly loved this woman, but he chose to help her and take care of her. His father and his mother always raised him to take care of women and to never abuse them. Thus, he kept his word and cared for his new queen. Suddenly, the screaming had stopped. The sound of a baby was heard crying. He stood up straight while his eyes were wide as he suddenly turned his head and rushed into the room of where his wife was in. He was now the father of a baby boy. He smiled happily as he now had a son. However, as soon as he was about to rejoice, a man had appeared within the shadows as he gasped in horror.
“Get out of here! How dare you appear before my beloved son and wife!” He shouted angrily as he drew his sword. The man vanished into thin air as he appeared by the window. It was raining heavily as the baby was in his arms. The queen gasped in horror as the king’s eyes widened.
“Let go of my son!” He shouted intensely as the man revealed his face. His cheek was branded as he used to be a slave. He laughed wickedly as his hazel green eyes shined in the darkness.
“Never. You killed my brother and now I will take your-“As soon as he was about to finish speaking, an arrow had shot through the man’s heart as he had dropped the baby outside. The king ran toward the open window as it was pouring outside. There he looked outside and saw a woman that was almost completely naked. She had dark red robes that had ran across her nipples, crisscrossed over her back, and had covered her lower half. She was drenched in the ran as she had a bow and arrow on her back. Her long, straight, brown hair was plastered onto her chest and back as her ocean blue eyes could be seen within the rain. In her arms was the king’s son as the baby was silent. She gently smiled at the little one as he smiled up at her. She turned her head and glanced around as the villagers and the king’s army stared at her. She was absolutely stunning for her hour glass figure was clearly defined from the robes as rain drops ran down her naval. She glanced at the king and closed her eyes for a moment as she started to walk inside the castle. The king’s army followed her as the village began to whisper.
“Isn’t that…it can’t be.” Some of the people stated as a little boy smiled at his mom.
“Mama, who was that pretty lady?” he asked inquisitively as his mom looked worried. His mom looked down at her son and responded with a short tale.
“A long time ago, there was a woman who was deeply in love with a man. She did everything for him. She cooked, she cleaned, and she did everything he wanted of her. However, he betrayed her. Though the man thought she was an ordinary woman, she was not. For she was a woman who was known to be born from the rain of the gods and she would only appear when it rained.”
The little boy looked confused as his mom smiled and rubbed his hair. “If a man or if someone were about to die, she would always appear and save their life when it rains. She is believed to be over hundreds of years old. Her robes are a sign of her age, for no one dresses like that. However, after she has finished saving them, she disappears and no one ever sees her again. Most people state that she is evil and she kills people for fun. But, as you can see, that is not the case.” She stated as she adverted her eyes from her son and watched the woman walk indoors.
As the woman walked inside the castle, her robes followed behind her as her long brown hair was plastered to her body. The king was sitting on his throne as he gazed at her. He had heard legends of a woman who would only appear when it rained and kill men because of her previous lover. The king stood up and walked toward her as she didn’t say a word. She stared at the king as he gently took his baby back into his arms and wrapped him into the blankets.
“Thank you.” He stated as she gently smiled back. She then turned around and began to walk away as he held his hand out.
“Wait!” He shouted toward her as she stopped walking.
“It will stop raining soon. “She responded gracefully as the king walked toward her.
“Why did you save my son?” He asked as she turned her head and glanced at him.
“A long time ago, a man who was in that throne way before you were born asked me to watch over his descendants.”
The king’s eyes widened. “My great grandfather?” He asked as he swallowed.
The woman nodded as she gazed at him.
“Your great grandfather was the man I loved. The man who betrayed me.” She had completely turned around and walked toward the king as she sighed in pain. Her eyes looked down.
“I loved him more than the rain itself and the god’s above. He left me for another woman and I haven’t loved since that day I caught him cheating on me.”
Tears ran down her cheeks as she continued on.
“But one night, he was ambushed and I found him lying outside of the kingdom by a lake. It was raining and I was there when I heard him say, “I know I have betrayed you, but I ask you to do one thing for me. I ask that you please watch over my descendants. Please..” With that, he passed away.
She stated as she looked at the king and then at his son. The king was baffled for he had heard stories of a beautiful woman who had watched over his father and of himself as well. Whenever he was alone and his father wasn’t around, he had seen shadows of a woman that looked just like her appear. Whenever he was danger, he always saw a woman nearby, watching over him. One time, he was fishing in a nearby lake as he was ten years old. Accidentally, he had leaned over too far and had fallen into the water. He was struggling to reach the surface for air, but wasn’t strong enough as a swimmer to do so. Not until a beautiful woman in red robes appeared and saved him. However, once he had reached the surface, she was gone.
