“Fuck! In the whole! Be gentle!".

Maddie shoots me a look, “Then stay still, till I can put it all the way!".

I stand still as she squints her eyes and attempts to put the small diamond piercing she brought into my left ear. When we were back home, I remember her daring me to get piercings. I have two of them but somehow she manages to miss both.

“For a basketball player, you have terrible aim,” I mutter and she glares at me, “Here, just let me-”

“No, I can do this,” she says clearly challenged by the earring. She glowers at it like it personally attacked her. “I just don’t wanna hurt you,”.

“You won’t,” I press down on my lips to suppress a smile, “Thank you, Maddie,” I say quietly and she grins up at me in response.

My hands go to the necklace resting on her chest that I bought her in highschool. It’s been nearly two years of FaceTime calls and only seeing the other person for days at a time. I suppose the earring represents a milestone.

We’re both wearing diamond studs, hers are a bit wider than mine cause I refuse to be identified as homosexual but Maddie practically begged me to put them on. I glance down at my hands, all that’s left is-

“Got it,” she announces triumphantly, cupping my jaw as her eyes dart from the one earring to my face.

“How do I look?” I whoosh my head to the side. I was going for Pantene commercial vibes but my hair just gets caught in my eyes. I pause.

“Fishing for compliments?” She asks with a smirk, reaching forward to brush the hair out my face.

I shrug innocently, “Well, if you won’t compliment me, there’s always girls on tinder,”.

Her face falls, “So, you’re fucking with me now huh?” She asks condescendingly, “Hm. Good guy”.

I laugh, “That’s what healthy couples do you know, they compliment each other,”.

“Healthy?” She asks disapprovingly. “Who wants that?”.

I cross my arms and look down at her as we wait. When she doesn’t say anything, I slug her hair, “You know, I can’t stand you sometimes,”.

She merely smirks, “Get on your knees, then,”.

I make a face and she laughs, wrapping her arms around my neck.

“Sebastian,” she says softly, her blue eyes staring straight into mine, as she cradles my face in her hands. The skin soft against my cheeks, “I think you’re perfect,”.

“I’m not,” I say quietly, “But you make me feel like I am,”.

I stop breathing as she brings our lips together. Familiar old friends. I wrap my arms around her, pulling her closer to me. Trying to feel her heartbeat.

She pauses, smiling against me, “Why do I feel like your mom is hiding somewhere following us?”.

I let out a light scoff, “I’m kissing you and you’re thinking about my mom?” Her grin stretches, “Sorry, but she’s married and I’m sure she’s gone now,”.

She fulfilled her duties of helping me get my stuff to my room and talking to the basketball coach so I wouldn’t be surprised if she was back on the plane and twerking with strippers in celebration of me being thousands of miles away.

The lightness on my face disappears but I pull away before my mood can sour.

“Let’s go eat,” I say, putting on a smile, “I want to go on my first official college date with my girlfriend,”.

She pretends to search behind herself. “Girlfriend?".

I move to flick her hair but she grabs it and slips it around her waist.

“Come on,” She says slipping her fingers into mine. “We have two years of dates to make up for,”.
