Chapter 1: “The News.”
Two bodies moved to the beat in the oldest dance in the world. Their naked skins caressed and rubbed against each other as if they were trying to start a fire. Some reddish marks stood out on their bodies, some more subtle than others, and their moans expressed the desire that consumed them in a maelstrom. Blood flowed like lava through their veins.
Naruto was convinced that Sasuke’s hands on his hips would leave marks from the firmness with which he held him, but he couldn’t care less at that moment. It felt damned good. With his hips up, his almost stiffened hand clutched at the pillow while with the other he masturbated to the rhythm of the onslaughts he was receiving from behind. They were so impetuous that Sasuke’s pelvis frequently slapped against her reddened buttocks adorned with some previous bite marks.
The orgasm shook them like a whiplash, shaking their bodies first and then making them fall languidly on the bed of rumpled sheets with their bodies pearly with sweat.
For a few moments, the only thing that filled the silence of the room were the agitated breaths of its occupants.
A quiet murmur escaped Naruto’s half-open mouth as Sasuke’s hot lips settled on the back of his neck, licking, sucking gently after, and finally delivering a firm bite as he carefully left his insides.
“Teme…” He uttered in a faint sigh. “Don’t you think you were too effusive today?”
Silently, Sasuke rolled to the side to settle face up on the battered bed.
“I would rather say the opposite.” He looked at her sideways, hiding his concern. “Is everything all right?”
Normally Naruto was a hurricane in bed. He couldn’t complain, he was quite participative and often took the initiative, but that night his usual mood seemed to be tempered. More like too tempered; almost cold.
“I’m just tired’ttebayo. That’s all.”
He never imagined hearing the word ‘tired’ leaving Naruto’s lips, which is why that answer surprised him.
The blond’s gradually slower breathing and watching his eyes gradually close as he adopted a more comfortable posture confirmed that he was indeed tired.
“If you didn’t feel like it, you could have just said so, dobe,” he chided seriously.
I didn’t want to think that I had pressured him in any way.
Naruto’s eyes opened again, the gleam of exhaustion in them discernible.
“Sasuke fear, sometimes you can be a box of surprises.” The aforementioned listened attentively as he didn’t understand her comment. “You go through life with that constipated face and no one would imagine how fiery you can really be.”
One of Sasuke’s hands girded itself swiftly on some blond locks, drawing a few moans from their owner.
“Do you want to die, usuratonkachi?”
“Ouch! You abusive bastard...” Renegade, smashing his palm on the opposite face, getting the other to release him. “I’m really tired, let me sleep’ttebayo.”
Bewildered, Sasuke released Naruto completely, seeing how Naruto hugged him by the torso and settled his head on one of his shoulders as if it were the best pillow, ready to sleep.
“Shouldn’t we take a bath first?” he suggested.
He laid a hand on the blond locks he had been mistreating a moment ago. They were a little shorter now than they had been two years ago, when they were seventeen.
“No. My head hurts, I want to sleep” he stammered almost more asleep than awake.
Sasuke’s brow furrowed subtly in real concern. He was aware that for a short period of time now Naruto had not been feeling well, suffering from nausea and sudden dizziness. At first, since Naruto himself played it down, he did too; after all Naruto had a certain habit of eating unhealthily so it could be a simple digestive disorder. But that was already dragging on and as it was called Uchiha Sasuke that tomorrow Naruto would be at the hospital for a thorough check-up.
As best he could he moved a little in an attempt to grab an end of the sheet with his free hand to tuck them both in, and then he saw it: Naruto’s belly was strangely swollen. She stared at it for a moment before finally tucking them in.
No doubt the idiot must have been suffering from a digestive disorder.
The next morning, Naruto was leaving the bathroom while trying to remove excess moisture from his hair with a towel hanging from his shoulders. He bumped head-on into Sasuke, who seemed to be waiting for him.
“Is something wrong?”
“Yes, I need you to accompany me somewhere.” It was supposed to be a request but it had almost sounded like an order.
Naruto arched one eyebrow and furrowed the other, puzzled.
“I can’t, I have to go with Sakura-chan.”
Sasuke sighed deeply as he remembered his former teammate. For a second he had forgotten. Sakura was currently three months pregnant and on orders from the Hokage, Kakashi, Naruto was taking care of her while his partner, Lee, returned from a long mission.
Not that Sakura was weak, but when her pregnancy was just beginning and she was not yet aware of it, she had a fall that turned her incipient pregnancy into a risky one. The first trimester of pregnancy was the most uncertain, so Kakashi, when he sent Lee on a long mission when Sakura had recently confirmed her pregnancy, asked Naruto to take care of her as much as he could.
And Naruto, as always, took his mission to heart.
Even in the three months he had been taking care of Sakura he had learned how to cook! It seemed unheard of for Naruto to be cooking anything other than instant ramen and for Sakura not to have died.
For what Naruto had explained to her throughout those months, she had had to keep a lot of rest because of the risk of miscarriage, so he was in charge of running Sakura’s house doing the laundry, the food, the shopping... Everything. He had even accompanied her to her medical check-ups.
Sometimes he felt annoyed thinking about the fact that Naruto seemed to be more the baby’s father than Lee. While he couldn’t blame the guy with the fat eyebrows because he was on a mission, he could blame that idiot Kakashi. He could have sent someone else on that damned mission and then Naruto wouldn’t have to spend almost 24 hours cohabitating with Sakura.
Jealous?
Not at all. Of course not.
“Sakura is already almost four months pregnant, isn’t she?”
The blond nodded his head softly before pushing past him to head to the bedroom closet and grab the only item of clothing he had yet to wear to be ready: his beloved tracksuit jacket, now black, to match his orange pants.
“What about it?” He looked at him. “Will you come with me today to visit Sakura-chan? It’s been a long time since you last saw her’ttebayo.” Suddenly his tone became a more excited one. “You should see her belly, her pregnancy is really starting to show!”
At that, Sasuke’s eyes drifted subtly to Naruto’s belly, remembering what he appreciated last night. Now that he had put on his jacket he couldn’t tell if his belly was still as swollen as the night before.
“I don’t know. Maybe,” he replied elusively, turning to the topic he was interested in. “I think you shouldn’t go with Sakura today” he blurted out.
“Huh? Why?”
“Sakura is already almost four months, she is already leaving behind the first trimester which was the most delicate. You don’t need to be around the clock glued to her. Besides, you haven’t been feeling well lately, you should go to Tsunade for a check up.”
The mere thought of visualizing himself making a visit to the hospital sent a shiver down Naruto’s spine, which he tried to conceal with a strained smile.
“I already feel perfectly dattebayo! You are exaggerating.”
“I don’t believe you,” sentenced.”
“It’s probably just stress... Yes, that! Stress.”
“Then all the more reason you should stop standing next to Sakura all day.”
According to what Naruto told him, there were days when Sakura was so irritable that even for him it was difficult to bear her. But the airhead understood that this was caused by the pregnancy and forced himself to gather patience, although that did not eliminate the fact that those tense situations stressed him.
How ironic. If he had been in Naruto’s place he would have given up long ago. After all Kakashi knew who was best suited to take care of Sakura.
“Sasuke, I can’t just leave Sakura-chan like this.”
He tried to walk to the door, but the black-haired man crossed his path, blocking the exit with his body.
“I think I didn’t make myself clear,” he spoke extremely serious. “You’re not going to go with Sakura until Tsunade sees you.”
The blond snorted in annoyance and rolled his eyes, giving up. The sooner they went to the damn hospital, the sooner he could go to Sakura.
“All right, let’s go to old Tsunade. But I’m fine now, we’ll just waste her time.”
“Let her be the one to assess that.”
Now that Tsunade was not the Hokage, she worked at the hospital along with Sakura and her inseparable Shizune. Although since Sakura learned of her condition she had not returned to work, she needed strict rest.
When Tsunade called him, Naruto entered the room thanks to Sasuke’s constant pushing and shoving that forced him to walk and made him mumble insults towards the black-haired man.
“So, Naruto, what brings you here?” asked the blonde sitting behind the desk, adopting that pose of yesteryear with her fingers intertwined and her chin on her hands. “What’s wrong with you?”
“It’s nonsense dattebayo, I’m only here because the teme insisted.”
Sasuke sent an almost killing glare at the blond, but the blond played it cool.
Then Tsunade felt really intrigued. If Sasuke, who was seemingly disinterested in the rest of the world, had insisted Naruto go there, it was because something was certainly going on.
“I’ll decide if it’s foolish, Naruto.” she replied, reminding him of the words used by Sasuke moments before.
Not knowing where to start, Naruto ran a hand over the back of his neck in thought.
“Well... lately I’ve had my body a little scrambled....” he began to stammer.
“How scrambled? Be more explicit.”
“Nausea, dizziness, vomiting, strange cravings, tiredness, irritability, leg cramps, headache...” He began to enumerate rapidly.
Sasuke’s typical unperturbed look changed to one of total surprise when he heard that list of symptoms. He was only aware of the nausea, the dizziness, and from the night before, the tiredness and headache.
He frowned, looking at Naruto again as if he wanted to kill him.
The idiot had been feeling this bad and hadn’t said anything. The worst part was that he hadn’t noticed it either. Although, how could he notice if Naruto spent almost twenty-four hours with Sakura?
A strange chuckle bursting from Tsunade’s lips made Sasuke leave his thoughts and caught both his and the blond’s attention.
“What’s so funny, Tsunade no baa-chan?” he asked intrigued and almost offended. Was she finding it funny that he was this sick?
“Nothing, nothing...” she shook a hand, becoming calm again. “It’s just that... when you blurted out that whole list of symptoms you reminded me of... Well, they’re the same symptoms a pregnant woman can present.” she finally explained.
But none of the boys found the joke in that enough to laugh at, especially Sasuke who extremely darkened his expression, remembering for a fleeting moment Naruto’s swollen belly. He closed his eyes and shook his head, trying to shake off idiotic thoughts.
“I’m not a woman to be in that situation, old woman.” he replied offended.
The woman sighed deeply as she rested her hands on the desk and pushed the chair back to stand up.
“God, the Uchiha brat has rubbed off his ‘no sense of humor’ on you.” she reneged in a whisper.
“What?” questioned the blond as he failed to hear her.
“Nothing,” she straightened up. “Since when have you had these symptoms, Naruto?”
“Umn...” He paused to think for several seconds. “I don’t know. For weeks?”
“Are you asking me, brat?”
“Don’t call me a brat dattebayo, I’m already nineteen!” he replied. “And yes, I think I’ve had these symptoms for about a month and a bit.”
Tsunade asked a few more questions, discovering that Naruto did not suffer from all symptoms every day. Some days he might have dizziness and tiredness, other days just morning vomiting, and others he might be asymptomatic.
But even though Sasuke was waiting for Naruto to comment on his obviously swollen belly, Naruto said nothing.
“Well...” Tsunade started to say, turning her back to them to look for something on some shelves. “I’m going to take some blood samples for a detailed analysis. Maybe it’s a virus”
“It can’t be...” muttered Sasuke interrupting the blonde.
In the blink of an eye they had both stopped feeling Naruto’s chakra next to them. What’s more, they sensed him moving away quickly. They both looked in the direction where Naruto should be, but instead found the window open and no sign of Naruto.
“That usuratonkachi!” Sasuke mumbled.
The blonde massaged one temple in tediousness.
“I had forgotten that Naruto is afraid of needles, I should have been more discreet in saying so. But now that he’s nineteen I thought he had left that childish fear behind. Even I got over my blood phobia.” She looked seriously at the other. “Could you bring him here, Sasuke?”
“If it’s the last thing I do,” replied the latter in a sour tone that couldn’t hide how angry he was at the airhead’s escape.
All his life Naruto had fought all kinds of enemies, had endured the toughest training, and the idiot was panicking about a simple needle? It made him want to use the susano’o just to give him a huge kick in his dobe ass that would land him on Suna.
Fortunately for Sasuke and his over patience the cat and mouse game didn’t even last fifteen minutes. He had found Naruto easily, hiding in an alley and with no chance to flee because a dizzy spell coupled with a nauseous feeling had assaulted him and he didn’t see himself able to take a step without feeling like he would throw up all over breakfast.
One of the advantages of having the rinnegan, is that Naruto effectively didn’t have to take a step to find himself back in Tsunade’s office, who already had everything ready when the portal he opened in the alley made them appear there.
Naruto was so lost in his feeling of dizziness and his effort to hold back the vomit, that he was not even aware of the moment when he was seated in a chair and received the prick.
“See? It was no big deal, Naruto.” Smiled Tsunade lightly, writing the date and the patient’s name with a marker pen on the tubes of the blood samples taken. “We will know the results soon. In the meantime I recommend you take a soft diet and rest.”
“When is soon?” Sasuke wanted to know.
“Between 24 and 48 hours.”
Then the blonde approached Naruto and accumulating some healing chakra in her hand, she brought it to his stomach area. It certainly seemed strange to her that Naruto was sick possessing the kyuubi. Maybe something was wrong with his chakra?
The pallor on Naruto’s face gradually disappeared as he began to feel better, and finally, he was able to return home on his own two feet accompanied by Sasuke.
“Dobe, why didn’t you tell me you’ve been feeling bad for so long?”
“Because it’s no big deal, they’re just passing ailments that come and go.”
“And why didn’t you say anything about your belly to Tsunade?”
The blond looked at him curiously.
“What about it?”
“It’s swollen. Quite a bit.”
Naruto held a hand to the area for an instant in defensiveness.
“It’s not swollen! It’s just... since I’ve been taking care of Sakura-chan my life has become sedentary, I haven’t done missions, so I’m getting fat.”
“Just your belly?” he questioned with some derision.
The blond gave him a frowning look as he caught his mocking tone.
“Do you have any problem with me getting fat, you idiot?” A twitch twitched one of Sasuke’s eyebrows as he noticed Naruto’s sudden irritability. A symptom he himself had just confessed to Tsunade that he suffered from. Before he could say anything else, Naruto stopped in his tracks and walked in the opposite direction. “You know what? I’m leaving with Sakura-chan. I don’t feel like seeing your teme face.”
Sasuke watched him walk away, slightly upset by that rude rant.
“If he were a woman, I’d really swear he’s pregnant,” he mumbled to himself when the other was far enough away.
When Sakura opened the door to her home and discovered Naruto, she frowned slightly as she stepped aside to make way for him.
“Can I know where you’ve been? I’ve been waiting for you all morning.”
As soon as he entered, a delicious aroma of freshly cooked food reached Naruto’s nose and for a fleeting second his mouth watered. Suddenly he felt like eating something... he didn’t know specifically what, but he knew that his body would soon ask him to eat something specific.
“I had some business to attend to, Sakura-chan,” he said as all answer, without wanting to specify. He looked at the girl’s belly, in her almost fourth month her somewhat bulging tummy was already visible, giving away her pregnancy even if the clothes were somewhat baggy. “How are you feeling today?”
The pink-haired girl sighed deeply, almost tediously.
“This morning I woke up fine, but when I had breakfast everything went downhill. I started feeling nauseous and ended up throwing up my breakfast.” She stroked her belly with one hand. “Right now I feel kind of tired and my legs hurt.”
In response the blond sent a look of pure compassion to her friend. Since he had been taking care of her, Sakura had gone through some bad days and some horrible ones. The first three months of pregnancy Sakura had spent practically in bed.
Suddenly, he himself began to feel a fleeting nausea that seemed not to finish deciding to show itself in all its splendor.
“Being pregnant must be hard.”
“You have no idea, Naruto. Even if you tried to put yourself in my place you couldn’t understand, after all you are a man.” She turned, walking to the kitchen and inviting with that her friend to follow her. “Come on, I’ve cooked miso soup and dumplings. Let’s eat together.”
As they walked the short distance to the kitchen in silence, Naruto looked at his friend’s back as he tried to put himself in her shoes, to empathize with her. Being pregnant really must have been hard, and he knew that Sakura clearly missed Lee and was worried about him as well. That constant worry was apparently aggravating her annoying, recurring symptoms.
Just then, as he entered the kitchen and the smell grew more intense, a retch shook his body and he could barely contain himself.
“Naruto?” she questioned in confused.
She could only watch her friend cover his mouth with one hand and run to the bathroom, hearing him vomit instantly. She ran beside him, stroking his back.
“What’s wrong? Are you feeling sick?” But Naruto for obvious reasons wasn’t able to answer her at that moment. “You sure have been drinking expired milk again, Naruto. You’re so clumsy…” She scolded.
When the retching stopped, with a limp body Naruto stood up, he flushed the toilet and went to the sink to wash his hands and rinse his mouth several times. He felt terrible.
“Ugh, I feel like I threw up what I ate the last three days’ttebayo,” he mumbled somewhat pale.
“We should go to Tsunade.”
“No!” He interrupted in alarm. That crazy old woman would probably want to draw more of his blood. “I feel fine now, really.”
Sakura gently patted his back and gave him a small smile.
“Imagine suffering this practically every morning. This is how I feel.”
Naruto froze for a second. He too had been having that ailment practically every morning. Morning sickness and vomiting.
“I guess I can get an idea of what you’re going through after all, Sakura-chan.”
They both laughed lightly, walking to the kitchen again.
“Are you feeling better? Do you think you can eat something?”
With a slight nod Naruto replied. His body seemed to have returned to calm now and Kurama’s chakra eliminated in minutes the annoying burning that was left in his throat every time he vomited.
“Although I suddenly crave to eat a delicious bowl of ramen with lots of menma.”
She gave him a puzzled look.
“Naruto, you hate menma.” She pointed out the obvious.
“I know!, but for some reason I want to eat it. It makes my mouth water just imagining it. I don’t know how to explain it...”
“As if it’s a typical pregnancy craving?” She joked, letting out a giggle.
But Naruto didn’t see the joke.
“Hah! Very funny, Sakura-chan,” he replied taking a seat in the kitchen.
“Dumbass, it was just a joke.” She sat down next to him. “You’re a man, it’s impossible for you to be pregnant. But for a moment imagine if you were, wouldn’t it be wonderful? To be able to have a tiny little part of you and the person you love in this world.”
Sakura’s smile gradually disappeared as she saw the unusually serious expression of Naruto who just stared at the table in silence, without giving her an answer.
He seemed to be uncomfortable with the idea.
“Naruto?”
“We’d better eat, Sakura-chan,” He finally spoke, the smile returning to his face. “You wait here, I’ll serve the food.”
Naruto served a bowl of soup for each of them and a plate of dumplings for each of them. While it was true that he had hated vegetables more than anything else all his life, just at that moment, seeing those vegetables in the soup, he was craving to eat them as well.
“By the way, I received a letter from Lee this morning.” She changed the subject naturally while Naruto was looking for a couple of spoons and some chopsticks in one of the drawers. “He says he misses me, and the baby too despite obviously not knowing him.” She smiled. “He also told me he’s very grateful to you for everything you’re doing.”
“It’s nothing, Sakura-chan. You know I would do anything for you dattebayo,” he replied with a smile, sitting back down next to her.
“In our last few letters, Lee and I have been talking about something…”
“Aha?” he muttered starting to eat, though his attention was on what she was telling him.
“We have raised the possibility of you being the baby’s godfather,” she reported with palpable excitement in her voice. “After all, it is thanks to your care that this little one is still here, on the way.” She brought her hands to her belly, caressing it.
At the news, the blond looked at her perplexed. Him? The godfather of Lee and Sakura-chan’s baby? It had caught him completely off guard, and while a part of him was tremendously flattered, the other part was unsure about accepting.
“Sakura-chan, I...” he stammered.
“Don’t be silly, Naruto.” Confidently, she took one of her friend’s hands and brought it to her small, rounded belly to caress the area. “When the baby is born, he’s going to recognize your voice more than his own father’s, it’s obvious that you’re important to him. Besides, seeing how you have taken care of me all these months, I have no doubt that if anything happened to Lee and me, there would be no one better to take care of my baby.”
The feeling of having his hand on Sakura’s belly had him a little overwhelmed. Having a baby, taking care of a baby... it was a huge responsibility. And without a doubt he knew he wasn’t qualified for something like that.
“Sa-Sakura-chan... I should think about it...” he said, pulling his hand away.
The girl looked at him between confused and surprised. She thought Naruto would be happy and accept right away. But it seemed that anything to do with babies was giving him rejection.
Not wanting to badger him, she smiled at him and went back to her food.
“All right, think about it.” She conceded. “After all, there are still several months before the baby is born.”
The following afternoon, Sasuke was in Tsunade’s office waiting to know the result. A chuunin had shown up at Naruto’s house telling him that Tsunade wanted to see the blond promptly, but as it was normal since a few months ago, Naruto was at Sakura’s house since the morning, taking care of her.
He stopped by Sakura’s house to tell Naruto, and the girl was excited to see him thinking that he was going to visit her. Somewhat uncomfortably, he pretended that he had gone on a brief visit to inquire about the health of his former teammate and her baby on the way. In a second of confidentiality, while Sakura went to the kitchen to prepare tea, Sasuke told the news to Naruto who flatly refused to set foot in Tsunade’s office again. What’s more, he refused to set foot in the hospital itself.
Clicking his tongue at his partner’s stubbornness, Sasuke thanked Sakura for the tea she had barely poured him in a glass and left on his own to learn the result, leaving the drink untouched.
Part of him was convinced that what Naruto was suffering from was a simple digestive disorder; the other part didn’t know what to think.
When he entered Tsunade’s office and found her face extremely serious, his alerts were activated.
Something was definitely not right with Naruto.
She didn’t even need to open her mouth to know that. One only had to look at the way she was looking at and rifling through the papers scattered on her desk where Naruto’s results were.
“Why didn’t Naruto come with you?” she asked, still with that seriousness.
“The very idiot is afraid that you need to draw more blood from him or something. He asked me to come in his place. After all, Naruto’s discomfort is no big deal, right?” he said, trying to disguise impatience under an expressionless face.
The blonde sighed deeply and put her hands to her temples, massaging them.
“Sasuke... at first I thought Naruto might be suffering from a digestive disorder, or something similar, but... the results...” She stammered in a daze. “These results must be wrong. It can’t be.”
“Tsunade, speak at once” he ordered almost interrupting her.
The worry was getting to be too much. What was the diagnosis of those tests? Was there something really wrong?
“The tests reflect that Naruto is undergoing quite a hormonal revolution right now.”
The worry Sasuke felt gave way to utter confusion.
“Hormonal revolution?”
She took the papers in her hand and shook them in bewilderment.
“There is a drop in the male hormone, testosterone; and an increase in estrogen and prolactin levels.” Sasuke’s face at that moment did not reflect anything beyond some curiosity in wanting to know more about the matter. “It’s... just like what happens when a woman is pregnant.”
“What?” he mumbled in disbelief.
“Estrogen is a hormone that is secreted by the placenta during pregnancy and ensures that the woman’s body adapts to pregnancy. Prolactin in turn stimulates the production of milk in the breast to then feed the baby…”
For a second the whole room spun before Sasuke’s eyes, so visibly stunned, he took a seat in the nearest chair.
“Stop it,” he demanded affected. “This is a joke, right?” he asserted paler than usual.
“I wish I was. I don’t even know how a man could be pregnant! It’s unheard of!” She threw the papers on the table and stood up.
“Maybe... Kurama has something to do with it?”
“I’ve thought so too, Sasuke. After all, being a jinchuuriki makes the container someone special. But I should do more research on the matter. You need to get Naruto here as soon as possible.”
The black-haired man nodded mechanically, staring at the ground as he tried to take in the unbelievable news. A cold sweat was beginning to trickle down his back.
“Congratulations on your future parenthood,” commented Tsunade, though seeing Sasuke’s pitiful state she added somewhat more seriously. “I guess.”
Sasuke looked too shocked at that moment, and Tsunade could understand it. If even she was having a hard time taking it in, it had to be worse for the boy. And she didn’t want to imagine Naruto’s face when he got the news.
Upon returning home that night after dinner, Naruto was surprised to find his apartment surrounded by a tense silence. He knew Sasuke was there because he could sense his chakra, but there wasn’t the slightest sound, and from the time he deduced that it was unlikely he was already asleep.
“Sasuke?” Confused he searched for him with his eyes.
It didn’t take him a minute to find him though. The benefits of living in a tiny apartment.
He found him sitting on the bed, elbows resting on his knees, staring thoughtfully at the picture of the young team 7 resting on the nightstand. He didn’t even have the light on, the room was in semi-darkness.
His fringe was now longer than it had been two years ago and now used to cover one of his eyes, so he couldn’t get a good look at his face.
There was almost a gloomy atmosphere around his partner that worried him.
“Hey, everything okay?” Sasuke only seemed to react when he put a hand on his shoulder as he sat down next to him, and he couldn’t help but let out a fleeting chuckle as he discovered his face almost startled, as if he had seen a ghost. “Didn’t you hear me come in?”
“No...” he stammered almost in a whisper. “I was distracted.”
“I already noticed, teme.” He leaned a little to get a better look at his face. “Well? Did something happen?”
Again Sasuke felt himself breaking out in a cold sweat and slyly averted his gaze to Naruto’s belly. Obviously nothing much was visible because the blond was wearing his typical baggy tracksuit jacket, but he knew that there was that slightly bulging belly hiding there.
Was there really… a baby forming there?
Ignoring the other’s thoughts, Naruto spoke again.
“By the way, what did old Tsunade say? If she insists again about the bland diet, she can forget about it’ttebayo,” sentenced. “Just on the way here I ate three bowls of ramen with a lot of menma.”
Almost alarmed, Sasuke looked at him.
“You hate menma.”
“I know that! But I’ve wanted to eat it so badly since this morning.” He folded his arms. “Sakura-chan teased me saying that it was like pregnant women’s cravings, but─”
“Naruto,” he interrupted.
The extremely serious tone caught the full attention of the aforementioned, who looked at him curiously at first and then became worried.
“What did Tsunade no baa-chan say to you? Do I have something very wrong?” He clung to Sasuke’s shoulders. “Do I have an incurable disease? Am I going to die or something?” he asked dramatically, getting flustered for an instant.
“You’re pregnant,” he blurted out point-blank, facing him at last.
Even pronouncing it out loud didn’t help him take it in, it still felt just as unreal.
“What...?” stammered Naruto blurting out at him, totally perplexed.
But he didn’t get an answer again. He couldn’t revel in the relief he should be feeling that he wasn’t suffering from something deadly. The news had been like a punch all over his face.
For a second, the corners of his mouth curved upwards and he pretended to let out a mocking chuckle, thinking it was a joke. But the resounding seriousness on the other man’s face left him no room for doubt.
Sasuke was telling the truth. A truth that seemed impossible.
But the worst part of it all was... why did Sasuke look so unhappy?
TO BE CONTINUED.
