Prologue
Dear Mum and Dad,
Sorry I had to take a whole week to write back. I nearly forgot I promised to write until Madden reminded me.
Anyway, my first week at Hogwarts was alright. It didn’t go as terribly as I predicted. You probably heard this from Madden already, but I’ve been sorted into Ravenclaw, which I know you’re very glad about. The other Ravenclaws are quite friendly. In fact, I’ve made a new friend already. His name is Carson Adair, and I promise he’s really nice. He’s a Muggle-born too. Not that it matters, but he’s really smart. He knows all these big complicated words, such as “deipnosophist” or whatever. He promised to teach me some words too.
I think Madden’s doing okay. He doesn’t like it when I follow him around too much. He says he doesn’t want his fancy fifth-year friends to see him with his “clingy little sister.” Don’t get too mad at him about that though, since I really don’t blame him.
Also, the students from other Houses are also quite nice. There’s Allegra Fairley from Gryffindor, and she’s a half-blood. We have Charms together. Allegra can be a bit arrogant though, but I suppose that’s every Gryffindor.
Then there’s Asher Sterling from Hufflepuff. He’s a pure-blood. He’s nice, but his potion-making skills are dreadful. His wand grip is terrible too, so I have to correct him frequently. But he’s excellent at Quidditch, and he says he’ll join the Hufflepuff Quidditch team next year.
In case you’re wondering, the new Headmaster of Hogwarts is some man called Arwyn Beckett. The head of Ravenclaw house is Eris Gastrell, and she teaches Charms.
I’ve nearly forgotten—there’s been loads of rumors going around, and they’re all about the same girl.
Her name is Agatha Faye Umbridge, and she is the granddaughter of Dolores Jane Umbridge.
