Chapter 1

As I lay on the upper bunk of my college dorm room, I couldn’t help but wonder, “Is it just my roommate, or do all people act like this when they’re in love?”

The room was small, with the gentle hum of the fluorescent desk light casting a cozy atmosphere. My roommate, Emma, whispered sweet nothings to her boyfriend, sharing the most mundane details of their day in the most painfully excruciating detail.

“Today’s weather was amazing, baby. Wish you were here to cuddle me!” I heard her say, followed by some more scandalous remarks about hot-pink underwear, which made me roll my eyes, I mean ‘give me a break’ I thought.

Coming to university, I had imagined a completely different experience. I pictured crazy parties, wild adventures, and maybe even a secret society of nerdy geniuses who solved mysteries on the weekends. But nope, I got an earful of my roommate’s love life instead. Life can be so unpredictable, huh?

The next day, as the sun rose and the world greeted a new day, I realized I was attending one of the best universities in the country. It was like Hogwarts for the academically inclined (minus the magic and flying brooms). However, with the prestigious reputation also came an imposter syndrome the size of a dinosaur chasing after a tiny caveman.

I mean, who was I kidding? Me, a regular human, trying to keep up with all these brilliant minds? It was like a penguin trying to join a flock of soaring eagles. But, hey, I was going to give it my best shot. Even if I failed, What’s the worst that could happen....I’ll live my entire life waiting tables and piss-off some rich ass guy and end up homeless. No pressure at all.

After attending a rather daunting lecture, I felt the need to take a breather and explore the campus. The university had a beautiful and vibrant environment. Everywhere I looked, Half there were students engrossed in their studies or engaging in lively discussions and the other half literally stoned. Despite the stunning scenery, I couldn’t shake off my insecurities, as I couldn’t fit with either crowd.

As I wandered, I stumbled upon various clubs and organizations, each one offering a unique opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals. The idea of joining a club intrigued me, but the fear of not being good enough held me back. Seeing all these smart people really makes me feel like I ended up here my mistake, and if I attend an interview for a club everyone would find out that I’m actually really dumb.

As I roamed around, I sat down under a tree , dead tired. Turning around I meet the most electric eyes I have ever seen. Across me was a guy with dark, tousled hair that seemed to defy gravity. His piercing eyes locked onto mine, sparkling with a mix of mischief and intelligence. They were the most electric eyes I had ever seen, captivating me instantly. But what struck me the most was his smile, one that could brighten up even the gloomiest day. It was as if he carried a secret reservoir of sunshine within him.

As he caught me staring, he flashed me a friendly grin, and I couldn’t help but return it. There was something magnetic about his presence, an aura of confidence and charm that drew people towards him effortlessly. He seemed familiar...he was definitely Lucas Winters, the most popular guy in our year.

Everyone knew Lucas, not just because of his good looks but also because of his charisma and approachability. He was the kind of person who made friends wherever he went, and his genuine interest in others made people feel valued and appreciated.

“Hey there! You look like a coding wizard in training,” he said, flashing that captivating smile.

I couldn’t help but grin. “More like a coding disaster waiting to happen!” I said as I looked at the semi crumpled coding club flyer in my hands.

Lucas chuckled, his laughter filling the air. “Don’t sell yourself short. I’m sure you have more talent than you give yourself credit for. Besides, coding is all about trial and error. Embrace the mistakes, and you’ll learn along the way.”

His words struck a chord within me. There was a kindness in his encouragement that made me believe in myself a little more. I realized that Lucas wasn’t just popular because of his charm; he genuinely cared about lifting others up and helping them realize their potential.

“LUKE!!!” someone shouted a shrill voice from across, making Lucas jump in surprise, ready to run

“I appreciate the pep talk,” I said, mustering a newfound confidence. “Maybe I’ll give it a shot after all. Who knows? Maybe I’ll surprise myself.”

Lucas’s eyes lit up, his enthusiasm contagious. “That’s the spirit! Take a leap of faith and see where it takes you. And hey, if you need any coding tips or someone to bounce ideas off of, I’m here. Consider me your honorary coding buddy.” he said in a hurry

“O.K. Buddy! I’ll give it a shot” I said with a playful smile as Lucas ran off in the opposite direction.

I watched Lucas disappear into the crowd, feeling a strange mix of curiosity and admiration. He had made such an impression on me in just a few minutes. He was unlike anyone I had ever met before.

But then why did he run away like that? Who was that person who shouted his name? And why did he look so scared?

I shook my head, trying to clear my thoughts. I didn’t even know him that well. Maybe he had a good reason for his behavior. Maybe he had a girlfriend who was jealous of our conversation. Maybe he was just late for class who knows.

Whatever it was, it was none of my business. I had my own problems to deal with. I had to focus on my studies and prove myself worthy of being here. I had to find my place in huge mess.

I looked at the coding club flyer again, feeling a surge of determination. Lucas was right. I had to take a leap of faith and see where it took me. Maybe coding was my calling. Maybe I could create something amazing with it. Maybe I’ll meet him again.

I smiled, feeling a new sense of excitement. I folded the flyer and tucked it into my backpack. I decided to go to the coding club meeting later that day and sign up for it.

Who knows? Maybe it would be the start of something interesting.
