Chapter 1
I trudged towards the familiar white building of terror. I could already feel my head ache as I enter the double doors of our school.
“Kaichou!” yelled Naoki as he jogged towards me with a smile. He stopped midway, “Kaichou! Are you okay? I think you need to go to the clinic.” He said worried as he walked over to me.
“I’m fine.” I said. “How was your summer break?”
“Well, it was fun but-” He looked at me with a sheepish smile, “I felt guilty since you had to work on all the student council stuff. I feel like I’m such an incompetent Vice President.”
“It’s fine. I didn’t have much to do anyway.” I said as I went to the Student Council office.
As I sat down on my seat, I looked around and saw that Naoki was dozing off as soon as he got seated. He had been working different part-time jobs since he started to live independently last year. His parents couldn’t afford to pay for his tuition and wanted him to stop going to school and just go to work full time but he didn’t like the idea of having to give up school. To be honest, if I was in his position, I would’ve felt the same way too. With working different part-time jobs, I’m the same as he is but I have my own family and financial problems.
I decided to look at the school calendar that the faculty sent me and pulled out a whiteboard marker and wrote down the proposed monthly activities for the first term of the school year. I could feel my head throb in pain on one side as I write down the dates on the whiteboard. I sighed, “Mondays suck.” I muttered in annoyance.
The doors slid open with a loud thud making Naoki jump awake from his seat while I’m stuck in place, surprised. “Hey, Minami Kaoru!” shouted a familiar annoying voice.
“What?” I said as I continued writing.
“I kept on texting you and you didn’t reply!” He exclaimed. “How else could I know if you’re still alive?”
“Why are you acting like I’ll be dead at any minute?” I glared at Sato.
“Kaichou is strong and healthy.” Naoki said.
Sato raised a brow and look at Naoki, “You do know that Kaoru is prone to getting sick. She’s sick now.”
“And you care why?” I asked as I looked at him and noticed that his shirt is left unbuttoned, showing his white undershirt. “And can you button up your shirt? This is against the school’s dress code.”
“I told you this a million times, Kaoru-chan. We had-” Sato said.
“Don’t call me Kaoru-chan. We’re the same age.” I cut him off.
“An agreement.” He finished.
I rolled my eyes, “I don’t owe you anything.”
I heard a loud bang and saw that the door has been slammed again. “Stop bugging Kaoru.”
“What is up with people slamming doors? You’re going to pay for the-” I looked at the other person and saw that it was someone who I had been trying to ignore for the longest time.
“Maybe you should back off, Mahiro.” Sato countered.
“You’re clearly making Kaoru uncomfortable.” Mahiro said.
“You both are making Kaichou uncomfortable. Take this argument in a different place.” Naoki said while pushing both guys outside.
I sighed, “Men.”
“Thanks, Naoki." I said giving him a slight smile as I pat him on the back. These are the times when he helps me the most. He might be a tad irresponsible but he is a nice friend of mine.
