The Unveiling
The city could only be decided as a twisted labyrinth, a concrete jungle where shadows danced with secrets far and wide, and with danger lurking around every corner. Its dark alleys and towering buildings provided the perfect backdrop for a city teetering on the edge of chaos. In this maze of deceit and corruption, Detective Jung Inho found himself entangled.
If anyone were to tell Inho that is where his life would take him, he would laugh. Inho never imagined that the lead into his sister’s case would take him into this unimaginable chaos.
Inho takes a deep breath of the cold dark air and prepares himself to meet his new partner Detective Dam Kang-dae. This would either be a blessing or a curse. You see I have a history of not being on good terms with my partner. Now I do agree it’s most likely my fault.
Detective Kang-dae walks up to me with a welcoming smile and introduces himself.
“Hello, you must be my new partner Detective Jung Inho”, he says and shakes my hand, “My name is Detective Dam Kang-dae, it’s nice to meet you.”
“It’s nice to meet you too Detective Dam”, I smile back at him.
I couldn’t help but observe him and notice that he was handsome and tall. Kang-dae compared to my 5′9 height was about 2 inches taller, well built with medium-length black hair.
“So, I know it’s your first day here and all but we got put on the murder cases that’s been all over the news.”
We slowly started walking towards, what I assumed was our desks. He seemed excited and nervous talking about the case. I don’t blame him the case was the most perplexing yet. Even for myself who has seen it all.
“I read up a little about the case before coming in,” I explain to my partner.
He hands me the case file and started to get into more details.
“A series of unexplained disappearances have been plaguing the city, but...” Kang-dae said then looked up at me with a frown, “This morning two of the five missing victims showed up dead leaving no trace or clue behind.”
I look at Kang-dae with a frown of my own, “What do we have on the victims’ backgrounds?”
“See that’s the weird part, the victims were seemingly ordinary citizens, each one of them vanishing without a trace,” Kang-dae explained while looking at the victims’ files. “So, the only connection between them so far was their proximity to the dark underbelly of the city.”
I looked up at Kang-dae from the file confused, “what and where exactly is this dark underbelly?”
“Well, that is where most of the gambling and selling illegal drugs happens. We have been trying to crack down on them for weeks but with these missing persons and murders happening....” Kang-dae explained frowning.
“I understand these cases take priority. Well, why don’t you introduce me to the team, and then let’s re-investigate each victim to get a better understanding of their connections and disappearances.”
“Sounds like a solid plan to me partner, ” Kang-dae said with a smile.
