“...you know he’s only calling ’cause he’s drunk and alone”

Chapter 1:

---

I carefully slipped my house key into the door knob, the other keys, and keychains that hung below jangling around as I twisted it to unlock the door. I sighed in relief as I stepped in and took off my shoes, leaving them at the front door. As I strode down the hallway to enter my living room my body ached with wariness due to tonight’s race. I carelessly flung my leather jacket onto the ground, letting my body hit the couch with a sigh of relief.

My eyes began to feel heavy as I let myself relax, but my body abruptly tensed back up at the sound of my phone ringing, the device gently vibrating in my back pocket. An annoyed groan escaped my lips, my eyes squinting at my phone’s screen which shined brightly in the darkness of the room. I chuckled as I saw the caller ID which read, “anus.”

It was that dumbass Rinatrou calling me. I had named his contact ‘anus’ due to another friend of mine named Kita, who had mentioned that Suna’s name backward was indeed anus.

Ever since then, I had always teased him about it, loving the annoyed expression that would grow across his face after doing so. He’d at times even try to give me the silent treatment because of it but of course, that didn’t stop me.

I contemplated whether or not to answer. One side of me wanted to just ignore it and go to bed out of exhaustion, but the other half was curious about why the brunette male was calling me so late at night. It was quite unusual, especially for him. He wasn’t the type to call his friends, not even for emergencies. He plays as a middle blocker for the Eastern Japan Paper Mills Raijin, a Division 1 team in Japan’s V-League. I admired the fact that he actually lived a normal life while I clung to the false hope of someday being able to live an ordinary life as well.

With the money I had gained from being a street racer, I managed to live in a fairly ordinary apartment complex with basic necessities. I didn’t have the money to afford to go to college and get a good job that paid me well because although I didn’t like to admit it, street racing was gradually becoming a big source of income for me. When I started out I was handed the bare minimum due to the ignorance of those who stood on the sidelines. But, as the nights passed by with me racing through the dark underground streets of Tokyo, they finally realized that I had ‘talent’, whatever that was considered to be for a street racer. The thing is that...I hated it.

Although I was now getting the money I deserved for engaging in such dangerous races late at night, I had begun to gain a lot of unwanted attention. A group of girls even made a ‘fan club’ dedicated to me due to becoming one of the top three racers. I didn’t race for fun, I only did it for the money. I spared no attention to those strangers that stood amongst the crowd and spent their nights betting on other strangers that stupidly risk their lives driving around in shiny vehicles; me being one of those strangers driving a shiny vehicle.

I did my best to keep the fact that I was a street racer a secret from my friends and family, including Suna. Not like he’d care, but just in case. My life during the night was not something I would ever want those that I cared for the most to know about. The last thing I want is for them to be worrying about me or worse, going to the authorities about it.

My thumb hovered over the answer button cautiously, still hesitant on answering the phone call but I eventually gave in, “What the fuck are you doing calling me so late?” The only thing heard on the other side of the line was heavy rugged breathing. It caused me to frown in confusion as I went on, “Um Suna are you there?”

I flinched at the sudden unsettling sound of moaning from the other side of the line, my phone slipping out of my grasp, landing on the wooden floor with a loud thump. I sighed as I picked it back up and held it to my right ear, the silence beginning to annoy me, “Are you trying to play a fucking prank on me or what?!”

“S-sorry, I need to see you.” At the sound of him beginning to mumble nonsense and slur his words after the weird statement, my tongue pushed up against the inside of my cheek as I began to question him, “Where are you right now? Are you drunk or something?” I set my phone down on the couch, putting the phone on speaker so I could hear his response while I picked up the leather jacket that lay sprawled out on the cool wooden floor, shrugging it on, “I’m on hm...was it Rose or Lily Street...? Well, you should know, it’s the uh street where the cool bar is at!”

My hand slid over my now frustrated expression, face-palming knowing well how drunk and high he probably was, “Send me your location and I’ll pick you up, so stay where you are. I’ll be there soon.”

The call ended, my phone slipping into the back pocket of my jeans as I made my way over to the front door. A sudden sharp ache in my head that I hadn’t noticed before began to worsen. I’m going to kill that bastard.

[20 minutes later]

I walked down the dimly lit streets in search of the middle-parted brunette but he was nowhere to be seen. My palms getting more and more sweaty by the second, with no sign of Suna wandering the streets. I began trying to call him but with no success as it went straight to voicemail, ”Your call has been forwarded to voicemail.”

As I made my way down the street I was currently on, I began to hear a low groan from the alley up ahead. In hopes of it being Suna, I quickened my pace and turned the corner into the dark alleyway to see the tall volleyball player standing against the brick wall of the building behind him. A deep sigh of relief escaped my lips as I made my way over to him and pressed my hand on his shoulder gently, restraining myself from yelling at him, “Rintarou, didn’t I tell you to stay put? I’ve been looking for you everywhere, are you hurt?” He met my gaze and suddenly slid his toned arms around my waist, causing me to frown in confusion, “What are you doing-?”

Nothing. He buried his face into the crook of my neck, his hot breath against my neck making me want to slip away but he was stronger than me. His hold began to grow tighter as he finally mumbled out, “I need you so badly...” Frustrated, I ran a hand through my hair as I used my free hand to pat his back, trying my best to stay composed while the strong scent of alcohol reeked off of him, “Let’s get you home Suna. You’re really gonna regret drinking so much in the morning.”

As I tried to slip out of his arms with a hard pull, he tugged me back twice as hard. His lips met mine. My eyes widened as his tongue pressed against my lips, begging for entry. His large slim hands began to travel up my sides, creeping up under my shirt. The sound of my gasp caused him to freeze in place. I hunched over a bit, trying to hide my face which was now flushed a deep red out of embarrassment as I pressed my hands against his chest in hopes of gaining some space between us, “I-I don’t want this.”

I could almost feel the thump of his heartbeat through his chest, “I’m sorry...I just feel so lonely.” My gaze softened as I hesitantly pressed his head down to my own chest and whispered softly in hopes of calming him down a bit, “I know Suna...I know.” He nuzzled his head into my chest and let out a shaky breath as his arms around my waist tightened, causing me to wince a bit due to his strength. He was a professional athlete after all.

I caressed his hair gently and pulled back a bit, lifting his chin up slightly to meet his watery gaze, “I’ll take you back to my place for the night, is that okay with you?” I couldn’t help but feel my heart squeeze in pain at the sight of his vulnerable state, a sudden need to protect him washed over me.

He nodded and something else seemed to glisten in his eyes, something a bit more dark.

I wrapped my arm around his waist and lifted his arm to wrap around my shoulder in order to guide him back to my car. He groaned into my ear, his hot breath tickling my skin and sending shivers down my spine. A grunt escaped my lips as I tried to open the passenger side door, flinging it open and helping Suna into the car seat. I buckled him up before shutting the door and quickly striding around the front of the car to get in.

As I sat down and buckled up, I slammed the door which caused Suna to glance over at me with a dejected expression plastered across his face, “Are you mad at me...?”

I shook my head with a sigh as I started up the car, glancing in the rearview mirror to make sure nobody was behind me as I backed out and drove onto the street. “I’m not mad at you just...I was just really worried.” My grip on the steering wheel tightened as I concentrated on the road, the only thing illuminating the road ahead of me being the headlights of my car.

His hands rested on his lap but they soon began to explore different compartments within the car, checking the sides of the door and slipping out a small wrapper. At the sound of the crinkle, I glanced over, my eyes widening as I realized it was a condom wrapper. Instinctively, I reached my hand over and snatched it out from between his fingers as he started to inspect it, “Stop touching my shit Suna, here how about some music.”

I tossed the wrapper behind me into the back seat before quickly turning the radio on which began to blast out some random country song through the speakers. My eyes narrowed in annoyance as I turned it back off, the awkward atmosphere returning as silence filled the car.

Suna let out a soft chuckle as he traced a finger over the dashboard, “So who the hell were you fucking?” I scoffed and rolled my eyes at his question, keeping my eyes on the road as I muttered lowly, “None of your business.” He was already annoying sober but it seemed that the alcohol made him 10x worse. I felt him shuffle around and his gaze seemed to burn holes through my head by how intensely he was staring. “Or perhaps...who the hell was fucking you?"

Poison seemed to drip off his tongue as he said those words, causing my skin to crawl. “Stop Suna.” I glanced over at him and saw him roll his eyes, slouching back in his seat and crossing his arms across his chest as he stared out the window.

I took a deep breath in, wishing that the car in front of me would go faster so that I could get back to my apartment already and escape this tense situation.

[15 minutes later]

Suna had begun to sober up a bit after I had given him a glass of water. I crossed my arms across my chest before leaning back into the kitchen counter behind me, tilting my head to the side, “So mind telling me why you decided to go get drunk by yourself?”

Suna chuckled as he set the empty glass down on the counter and stood beside me, nervously scratching the back of his neck, “Well...our team lost a match and it pissed me off so I went to drink over it. Ended up stupid drunk and calling you.”

I turned my body to face him fully as I frowned, trying to wrap my head around his thinking process, “And you chose me to call? Out of everyone in your contacts?”

He gazed down at me and leaned over, his tall figure towering over me as he trapped me with his toned arms, “I called you because...I couldn’t stop thinking about you...” His eyes flickered down to my lips as he began to lean in closer and closer by the second, a few strands of hair draping over the front of his face. My breath hitched and I quickly pressed my hands onto his chest as my frown deepened, stopping him from closing the space between us, “Suna, what are you talking about?”

He’s just drunk, he doesn’t mean it.

A mischievous smirk grew on his lips as he spoke lowly, dark intent and desire glistening in his eyes, “Come on Y/N, don’t pretend like you don’t know.” His hands met my waist with a tight and possessive grip as he managed to lean in closer, his hot breath against my ear. “When I saw that condom wrapper I couldn’t help but imagine you getting railed by someone else in the backseat. You know you only belong to me,” he whispered, pure jealousy laced in his voice.

He nibbled at my earlobe causing me to squirm around which lead to his grip tightening on my waist, his fingers digging into my skin which I knew would leave a mark, “Suna you’re drunk.” I tried to look away, not wanting to meet his intense gaze but he was quick to grip my chin and force me to make eye contact, “Whether drunk or sober, I can’t hide these feelings any longer.”

He began to leave soft open mouth kisses down my neck, a gasp escaped my lips as I quickly shoved him off of me and strode out of the kitchen.

This can’t be happening.

I snatched my keys and speed walked toward the front door of my apartment, stumbling over as I tried to hurriedly slip on my shoes. As I unlocked the door and turned the knob to walk out, Suna quickly reached out for my wrist and turned me back around to face him, “Y/N, please...don’t leave me alone.”

My gaze softened a bit as he met my eyes with a desperate demeanor, his breath was shaky and urgency was painted over his features. I wanted to be there for him but I knew I couldn’t stay in the same room with him any longer. I shook my head and tugged my wrist away before stepping out of the apartment. I glanced back at him with sorrow, “Don’t still be here in the morning.”

I shut the door in his face before he could continue and strode down the dimly lit hallway, quickly wiping away the tears that had started to stream down my face.

Perhaps I shouldn’t have picked up the phone...

Obsidian: He's hilarious. Like, actually. I loved it. You're writing style is great, although you could do with a few less murmurs and mutters.
