Chapter 1

Katy pushed herself from the side of the public pool of Kingsville, getting up from it. She had confidently walked away from the pool, water dripping from her hair to her swimsuit and to her stick-like statured legs. The exhaustion of swimming laps back and forth had made her want to doze out right on the spot. She had been the last one to leave the pool as everyone had gone home early. Many said she was as thin as a board, narrow waist and extremely long shoulders, almost build like the women’s mannequins from the storefront window of a clothing store.

What should I do and eat after this? She thought.

She went to get her clothes which were hung inside the women’s changing room locker, with a swift of her arm, she unlocked the locker and had gotten her clothes.

A gust of wind blew behind her. She had decided to ignore it, as it might have been the broken air conditioning since the pool was as old as her dad’s.

The light beam on top of her flickered, and she decided to rush into the shower and get it done early. So, she can go home and rest.

She had been in a rush to the shower and had forgotten to shut the locker. She had not mind that, as someone else who use it the next day.

She went in the shower and closed the blue blinds. The changing room was quiet, as she could only hear her own breathing and the warm water as it drops down to her body. In fact, to her, this is relaxing and calm despite the flickering of the lights in the changing room.

This time with every blink of the lights, a shadow seems to get closer and closer to her. Like the one, she had seen in horror movies.

“Who’s there?” she shouted, in hopes of knowing what was behind the curtain of the blue blinds. There was no answer, only the buzzing of the lights.

She had sounded in demand and had screamed at top of her exhausted lungs, “Who’s there? Stop playing tricks with me. I’m gonna call the police. And they are going to arrest you for harassing me.”

There’s only the buzzing of the lights and the gusting of the wind, getting closer and closer and closer. She reached out of the blinds and grabbed her phone. She started dialling, in hopes that there will be someone on the other side for help.

She blinked her eyes, the shadow was now in front of her. Opening the blinds, she saw a greyish ghost with green eyes and she stared at it.

She has begun to feel numbness around her legs and slowly building up to her head as she can no longer breathe, blinked or moved. She had become rigid like a mannequin, in fact, she is one.
