Chapter 1
I've been here before.
It's always ugly, dark, and silent. I’d imagined multiple times me leaving and never coming back but with how many people were guarding me, there was no escape, at least not yet.
The red eyes that watched me so intensely made me feel sicker than I've ever felt before, it made my skin crawl and feel icky.
The cold air that was drifting in from the opened windows sent chills down my spine, “Rose, How are you?” Hands reached out to my face and pulled me in. “You don’t look so good.”
My forehead was touched along with my cheekbones, “How skinny you’ve become.” A hushed voice blew over me.
I stayed silent and kept my eyes on the only cool dark ones besides mine in the room. I wasn’t scared. He knew that but I was curious as to why I was back here in the one place that prohibited my kind from being here…
“Why am I here,” My voice was dry when I spoke.
A smile cracked across his decent features, it drew me away because if I learned anything in these past few years it was that nothing good came from his smiles or the man in general.
“We’ve been informed of a very interesting thing, Little one,” A very disturbing emotion swirled in his eyes, “Everyone out!”
My body froze.
“Would you like to share,” My brow raised? The room was now emptying out and only me and the oddly beautiful man occupied it.
“Would you like to share?” Kelter asked in a very questionable manner, he copied my raised eyebrow and traced his finger under my chin his thumb then traced over my bottom lip delicately.
“I’m confused… are you just mimicking me to be funny or are you asking an actual question.” I yawned at the lack of sleep and stretched my limbs.
But then I froze.. as he took my face harshly in his palm, and the look that spread across his features told me everything I needed to know.
How did he find out? I tried to keep my breathing under control along with my pulse. There wasn’t anyone alive besides me and my brother that knew … which meant I was ratted out… fuck me.
He stepped away from me letting his fingertips tap my chin before taking ahold of the small daggers that hung from the wall behind him.
They looked like the ones I use to have in my training room, they had two of the same ones there was no mistake about it because I saw my mother's initials just under the handle of the dagger.
“Kelter…” I took a few steps back looking around for cover, “If you're thinking what I think… Don’t.”
I looked down at my bare feet and the dirt-covered sweatpants and tank top I was in and then observed the weather outside the slim window, Maybe I could slide right through it with a little bit of faith and maybe I had enough energy to withstand the cold long enough to get to where I needed to go.
I watched as Kelter twirled the dagger around his thick fingers. It was a tactical method he used to scare his enemies, the play motion.
It was like playing with your food before you devoured it. I took a could steps back again and got the right footing all while keeping Kelter in my view his back was still to me. Which allowed me to do what I had to.
I needed to jump.
With one last glance towards my capture, I took off and moved to the side as I gracefully slid past the glass that separated the inside from the outside cold.
Taking in a deep breath I felt the air around me slow and as fast as had jumped through the opening, I was pulled back just as quickly by swift-moving hands and smacked into a hard stone wall.
My body fell to the ground limply.
I groaned out in pain as I felt the throbbing around my body, “You know for being as intelligent as you are that move wasnt very smart,”. The eldest vampire spoke making my head snap in the direction of the door.
A very young man stood in a red cloak observing my potion on the ground. His hands were under his chin and his gleaming yellow eyes stared angrily at me.
I snarled at him, he was the one my brother was placed with… why was he hear? As I thought more about it and my stomach began to turn… where was my brother Alec?
He wouldn’t be here without him.
“Where’s-“. A hand came around my throat and pulled me up against the wall, Kelter’s hand had me dangling in the air kicking to be released.
“Where what my dear?” Kelter mocked.
“My Brother, Wheres my brot-“. I felt his grip tighten and my airway close even more. I started gasping for air until my body began to shake with rage and despair.
I wouldn’t die like this, not by the hands of them!
I threw my legs up and over his strong arm before latching on with my calf and twisting his hold on me, I put more pressure down allowing his grip to falter.
I closed my eyes trying to summon my power, I could feel it rise more than it had before which didn’t seem right at all. The electric charge that followed zapped Kelter, pushing him back into the wall and breaking some stone on impact.
My body flew to the floor instantly and before the elder could move I had a dagger in hand and aimed for his heart.
I threw it into the air and it hit right where I intended it to, his heart. His eyes bulged as he dropped to his knees. I leaped for the wooden dagger near the end of the weapons displayed on the wall and quickly shot it in the air hitting, The elder's chest.
He collapsed with a loud thud before letting out the most vile screech and began to shake. I moved quicker than Kelter could imagine, dodging his hands I grabbed a few daggers off the ground and stabbed one threw his shoulder, and kicked off his body.
And as fast as I could I tossed my body back out the window with a few daggers clutching in my hand. The wind hit me once more before I flew a few feet below, sticking the landing I took off in the direction of the setting sun.
I've been in this situation before and was well aware I had so little chance of getting away, but now that an elder was dead …. Well let's just say that I had no chance of survival if I got caught this time.
And I knew Kelter wouldn't let me go.
He keep coming for me as long as I was alive. I think he knew more than he was letting on otherwise his foolish games would stop.
My bare feet scraped against the rocks in the mud as I pushed myself fast than I ever have before. I was a dead woman. I knew that all too well and now that my brother was dead my mission was over I had to get out of there to recover and make another plan…. Without Alec.
My heart ached at the thought of my lost brother, he was so pure and never deserved the ending the Elder gave him.
Because I knew it wasn't a peaceful ending, it was a tortured one.
That hurt more than anything.
I pushed past the trees leaving some of my scent lingering around then. It would later give me a chance to escape, with all the same smell in such a small area it would confuse the stupid bunch of blood suckers.
I felt the wind pick up, I was hoping it would because itll carry my scent with it spreading it more and more until they no longer knew where i was.
Picking up my pace my feet carried me more intk the thickness of the woods just beyond the border of the Vladimir Coven.
I kept moving though even if i was in the clear with the coven. I was in new territory now and that meant more issues to come.
I hoped to god it wasn’t another coven’s territory, But oushed the thought out my head as i seen a shadow from my right moving at me with an incredible speed.
Wolf… it was a fucking wolf.
I stopped in my tracks and watch the wolf whoosh right passed me , I immediately started to climb the nearby tree getting out of the four-legged animals reach.
With little energy i had left i started to jump from tree to tree, getting closer to what looked like a river a howl pierced my ears as i jumped from the last tree.
Cold water enveloped me as i moved through the water to the other side. I relaxed just a little when i reached the unclaimed land on the otherside.
Looking back I seen the wolf staring at me with its teeth showing, it was a warning to watch my back i nodded in response and started to climb the muddy slope.
I wasn’t going to die today, not when I needed to avenge my family and The elder was the first to be taken off my list.
Kelter was next.
