Prologue
“So I heard your grandmother died as well. Such a neglected kid.” The boy snickered at the kid trapped on the wall.
“No wonder his mother left him alone.” The other guy snorted.
“His father is a mafia.” Another guy laughed.
“Oh, is that why he is not afraid of us?” The first boy chuckled. “So what if he is a top student and handsome? No one even loves him. Doesn’t even have friends.” The guy mocked.
“Why are you so silent, Jeon Jungkook? Didn’t your mafia dad teach you how to fight?” A guy asked him.
The kid fisted his hands and clenched his jaws, looking at the gang in front of him. “Let me go.” He said coldly.
“Why? Little Jungkookie is scared?” The guy mocked him. “I heard your dad doesn’t like your mom and my dad said that he has plenty of mistresses. Is that why she left you both?” The guy spat at Jungkook.
Jungkook tilted his head and gave them a look that almost pierced their soul. “Shut the fuck up and let me go before I snap,” Jungkook warned him. “Whoa! The next mafia king is already cursing. Bloody Hell!” The guy chuckled.
“Yah! Why are you bothering him?” A baby voice spoke. All the boys turned to look at the small girl with two ponytails and ice cream in her hand. “You look like bad boys.” She said licking the strawberry-flavored ice cream and shaking her head.
“Get back to your ice cream, kid. Don’t bother us.” The tall guy glared at her. “Yes. That is what I am saying. Don’t bother him.” She said walking towards them.
She blinked her eyes innocently at Jungkook. He stared at her obsidian, shiny, and impenetrable eyes. Her angelic, harmless, pure sweetness coated her current stance.
She mildly pushed the guy with her hand and stood in front of Jungkook whose eyes widen taking in the courage the little girl was portraying. “Mommy said bad boys should be punished.” She said licking her ice cream.
The gang erupted in a fit of laughter. The main guy looked at her. “You can’t do anything to us, kid. Just get out of here.” He warned her.
“No, you go.” She asserted. The guy scowled at the female and harshly kicked the trash can beside them. She flinched in action and stepped back, her back pressing on Jungkook’s chest.
“Get the hell out-” The leader stopped when the little girl impelled the ice cream on his face and glared at him. “Bad guy deserves punishment,” She commented shaking her head.
The others gasped and the leader wiped the ice cream off his face with an open mouth and a look of disbelief on his face. Jungkook and the others weren’t much different with their expressions either. The little girl made everyone astonished by her stunt.
The leader raised his hand into the air to hit her when suddenly Jungkook blocked his hand from doing so. Jungkook glared at him and pushed the leader’s body while holding his hand and stepping in the front of the girl.
The girl shut her eyes and covered her face with her hands to protect her from the hit but when she didn’t feel anything, she opened her eyes to find Jungkook fighting with the boys mercilessly.
Her eyes enlarged and jaws dropped to see the young boy, fighting and winning against five others. Jungkook was combating every hit but can’t save his face from a punch. Still, the others looked much more wounded than him.
“That boy looks good at fighting but I have seen much worse.” She mumbled when all the boys were on the ground with only Jungkook breathing heavily and grimacing at the gang lying on the ground. He turned to look at the girl and dashed over to her.
She stepped back and hissed when he approached her. His features soften but still looked at her with a straight face. He gently clutched her hand and tugged her with him. She reluctantly followed him.
He took them to a park and turned around to glare at her. “Why would you do something like that?” He rumbled at her, shooting daggers down her figure. She glumly looked at him and walked to him.
She touched his cheek which displayed a blue bruise. He froze on the spot but relaxed under her touch. He looked down at her, innocently tracing her fingers down his face. “Stay away.” He said moving back.
“How old are you?” He frowned at her. She showed the number 8 with her fingers. “You are three years younger than me. What is your name? I am Jeon Jungkook.” He said coldly but his anger died down.
She shook her head at him. “Mommy said not to say your name to strangers.” She said and he fused his brows. “You just said me your age and you can’t tell me your name?” He argued.
“Mommy didn’t say anything about age.” She pouted and he looked at her with a puzzled expression. “But you just helped me without knowing me.” He said gesturing his hand back and placing the other hand on his waist.
“Mommy said to help those in need.” She said with the ends of her lips turning upwards. He tensed up looking at her smile and looked away. He cleared his throat and growled at her, hiding the pink tinge creeping up his face for the first time.
“Where is your mommy?” He asked her. “Dad said she’s there. Always looking at me.” She said and Jungkook turned his face to see her pointing at the sky. “Your mommy is a bird?” He frowned at her.
She shook her head nudging her hands in denial of his statement. “She is an angel. We cannot see her but she can see us.” She said and Jungkook nodded his head. “I have to go or else Oji will come.” She said realizing something.
“What Oji?” Jungkook asked her with a straight face. “Princess, we need to leave.” A man, clad in a black suit and covering his eyes with black glasses screamed approaching them. “Oh no. They came. Bye!” She said turning her back to Jungkook.
Jungkook gasped but gripped her wrist stopping her. She looked back at him and raised her eyebrows. “When will we meet again?” He asked her.
She shook her head. “Never.” She remarked but Jungkook couldn’t just accept the fact. “You don’t want to be friends with me? What if I need your help again?” He asked, trying to conceal the panic appearing on his face.
“We cannot be together, Jungkook. I cannot make friends.” She said pulling her hand away from him. “Princess?” The man growled again. “Coming,” She said to the man and turned to him.
“I am sorry.” She said and turned back but Jungkook dashed and obstructed her way. He took out something from his pocket and said. “Give me your hand.”
She held out her hand Jungkook placed something on it. “This is a ring given to me by my grandmother before she died. I have the same one that belonged to my grandfather. Keep this with you. I promise to meet you again.” He said placing the ring on her hand.
“You won’t be able to remember me without this ring?” She asked him in confusion. He beamed, for the first time in a while and shook his head.
“I will recognize you just by your eyes.” He let out and continued, “You need to just come back to me, my little friend.” He said while smiling at her. Two more men approached her and held her hands. “Princess, we need to leave.” The man said and nudged her away from him.
She was silently being dragged by them but looked back at him with her innocent eyes. Jungkook was waving at her with a smile on his face. She turned her face and walked away with the men.
They brought her to a car and made her sit in it. “Princess, never scare us that way. Boss and little master will be mad at us.” The man said placing his hand over his chest.
“Stop calling me princess, Manatso Oji.” She said sulking at him. The older man chuckled at her. “Then what shall I call you by?” He asked. She grinned at him and replied.
“By my name. Kim Y/n. Y/n!”
