Intersecting Lines
She tried to avoid watching him, looking for him, or even thinking of him. But like moth to a light, her eyes cannot help but wander. Wander towards him.
There he was.
In all his glory, tall, confident, and flashing his kind smile to everyone he happens upon. He goes around, paying respects to the delegates in attendance. And there she was, on the other side of the room, a nobody, practically invisible.
She can’t help but remember all that has happened, his gentle touch, his piercing yet loving gaze.
His whispers.
His kisses.
His adoration just for her.
Her fists clench. The yearning to reach out, talk to him, hug him, to cry and ask for a second chance, to beg him to take her back – the wanting to have him look at her for even just a split second.
Amanda touches her shoulder, “Are you alright?” glancing at her clenched fists. “Just a little overwhelmed…probably over stimulated.” Yari says through clenched teeth.
She couldn’t say, because no one knew. It was a delicious secret she savoured. A secret she treasured and kept protected in her heart.
No one could know.
No one could know how much she loved him.
No one could know how much she still does.
Smiling at Amanda, she reached for her glass of water with a shaking and cold hand. Yari promised herself to not think of him, to forget about him.
Forget about the wonderful, passionate, and heavenly days they’ve spent together. Of his sweet nothings whispered into her ears as they lay down in a bubble with just the two of them existing in.
His sweet nothings of hoping she never settle for someone that doesn’t deserve her.
Hoping that she loves someone that’ll treasure her just as he did.
The feeling of his fingers gliding over her skin, burned and is burning her soul. As her eyes wander once more towards him, this time, locking eyes with him, she couldn’t help but realise that he was her one that got away.
She always dreamed as a child of being so in love that the world feels like a blur, of being in a bubble where nothing matters and there is only her and her love. She had thought that love would conquer all and would be easy. Only now does she realise that that isn’t love.
Love is opening your eyes, building you up, and holding you together.
Love is not an emotion but a treasure you have to choose to take care of everyday.
Even as she loves him, she knew he deserved more. He needed more.
And she can only hope to forget about him someday.
