Chapter 1

I never planned all this chaos. Now of course you are confused of what I am talking about or what is happening so then, let me come back about some months ago and tell you everything about it. So many things happened in my life that I didn’t plan, that became a nightmare but most were great things. Oh sorry about that, as I said, I’m gonna tell you everything from the beginning. My name is Brielle, an ordinary girl you would think and you were right, for a moment. I live in this place with and grey with other people that aren’t exactly my parents by blood, they are my tutors, my real parents disappeared, no one knows what happened, no one can tell me. I know nothing about my past. I honestly don’t know where to find the truth. And recently came to live with us Matthew, another guy that seems having the same situation as me about parents. He’s so annoying, all he does is keep studying you know, as those annoying nerds that have always to annoy others with their knowledge and pride. Last night when I was going to my room, he stopped me blocking my way with his arm and asked me:

“Tomorrow will be the big day. Are you ready?”

I nodded.

He kept being serious. “Good. Goodnight.” And he went in his room. So did I.

The next day arrived, all of us students were lined up in a big room, called one by one, my tutors were there too as the other parents and families all serious expressions. Then it came Matthew’s turn called as scientist, then it came my turn chosen as a nurse a good help for the doctor. Then in the evening happened the same thing as last time but this time with different words; Matthew again blocked me:

“Good luck for tomorrow.”

“Thanks. You too.” Gosh his manners so annoying.

“Goodnight.”

“Goodnight.” And we went to our own rooms. What’s wrong with my stomach? It’s making a weird sound…maybe I had to check better the food. Gosh I’m so tired. Let’s go to sleep. Tomorrow will be a tiring day.

Gosh my alarm. Alright let’s go to work.

“There is more food in the fridge.” Matthew shouted at me.

“Great.”

“See ya.”

“See ya.”

Wait! What was that? What is that? A different color I never seen before in Matthew’s hair?? What??

“Wait! Matthew!”

He’s gone. Oh my stomach again. Did I see wrong?? Probably. Gosh it’s late! I have to go to work!

Finally I’m here. Wow so many sick people.

“Brielle?”

I turn around. Oh another nurse? Maybe I’ll work with her today.

“Hi, nice to meet you. Let me show you the place.”

“Thanks.”

I see broken legs, others can hardly breath, so many hard different situations.

“This old man needs infusion after a long operation.”

“Sure.” I soon take the infusion and connect it to his arm.

Most of my duties for the whole day were very similar to the first thing I did. I also helped other old people to eat, go to the bathroom, normal life things that were hard for them to do it by themselves. As I knew, it was really a very long tiring day. Finally I gave the last infusion.. wait… what’s going on? Is this another color?? What’s wrong with me??

“Are you ok?”

I nod to the nurse in front of me. I don’t want for the moment that others know. I don’t want anything bad happen later for my fault. Better to come back home.

“How was your first day at work?”

“Good and tiring. And your?”

“Same.”

When I finally decide to watch him for a second as a sign of respect..wait.. Not only Matthew’s hair, his eyes too look so different.. what’s wrong with me? Why I can’t stop to watch him? What’s this sound inside my chest? Is it my heart? And my face?? What’s wrong with my temperature?

“Are you ok?”

Oh my gosh. He realised that and now he is watching me confused.

I nod. Then I go to my room.

“Are you hungry?”

I turn around to him.

“I made some food there if you want.

“Thanks.”

Then I go to eat. Wow is so good. He cooks so well. Better to put everything in order.

“It was good. Thank you.”

He ignored me. So annoying.

“Goodnight.”

“’Night.” At least.

Where am I? Matthew? He is coming toward me but why I can’t speak? What’s going on? And why there are more colors?? I’m laying on the wall and finally he is 2 feet closer to me why it’s becoming hard to breath now?

“Do I look so handsome to you?”

What? He’s watching me so deeply and…is that a smile? What..

Then I hear my awful alarm. My gosh. Where am I? On my bed? Then what was all that?? Gosh it’s driving me insane. I must be sick. Oh I have to run to work again.

“What’s wrong with you?”

What? Matt (better if I use abbreviations this time) was outside of the house like waiting for someone.

“What?”

“Something is happening on you. I can see it. What’s wrong? Is it at your job place?”

He seems like he cares? Oh my gosh my face is warm again.

“Everything is fine. I have to go now.”

My stomach again. I am definitely sick. I didn’t feel hungry neither for breakfast. I need to find a good medicine at work without anyone find out.

Finally, the bus took so much longer, I hate it. Alright Bri (better to use an abbreviation for my name too don’t you think?), find a good medicine to don’t get caught. Oh I finally found it. Which medicine is the right one? Gosh there are so many! Allucination…sight…uhm maybe this one is the right one?

“Don’t you think that asking to a doctor would be better than to risk to get worst with your health?”

Dang it. The doctor was standing at the door crossing his arm with a face like suspecting?

“Sorry.”

“I won’t say to anyone if you are worried about that. Come to my room, I have a few minutes free before I go back to work so I can check you. You won’t be in trouble.”

I nod. Worried? What does that really mean? I don’t know. I follow the doctor that shows me a little empty white room with a few beds for the patients.

“Go, sit down there.”

I nod. The doctor looks a little bit old.

“Tell what do you feel.”

I’m not sure if opening to him is a good idea. He’ll think I am crazy.

“You can open up to me. I won’t judge you. It’s just you and me. As I already told you, nothing bad will happen to you.”

“I…” Bri breath. Nice rhythm of words, anyway. “I don’t know what is happening to me. I can see some new colors I’ve never seen before, my stomach sometimes makes weird sounds, last night I had a kind of imagination with more colors, my face gets warmer in some moments, my heart beats fast in some moments too and becomes difficult to breath, is it a kind of flue or something?”

The doctor started to kind of…smile at me?? Then he’s probably laughing thinking I’m definitely crazy. I’m feeling stupid right now. I didn’t have to tell him.

“I know what is it. It’s love.”

“What? Love? What is that?”

“Can you stay here after your shift? I’ll be better able to explain you.”

I nod. I’m gonna send a message to my tutors that I’ll be late working extra hours so they won’t go searching for me. Let’s go do another infusions, oh I’m almost done with my shift finally. Oh what’s going on, the color again? Gosh I think I’m feeling worst, like dizzy..oh my gosh I need to vomit! Then I came back, oh no same sensation.

“You don’t look ok. Go to visit the doctor now.”

I nod to the nurse. I’m here waiting for the doctor in his room. I need to get better. I can’t stop thinking of his words..love? What is love?

“Sorry for being late.”

“It’s ok. Doctors are more busies than nurses.”

“That’s true. But you do a great job too.”

“Thanks.”

“The nurse told me that you looked worst today.”

“I don’t know, doctor. I only know that I started to see a new color and then I felt worst.”

“Can you tell me where was the color?”

“On the blood.”

The doctor smiled again? “I see. I think seeing blood and body parts isn’t good for you.”

“Why? Doctor, I don’t understand. Is there something wrong with me? Is a this flu called love without any cure?”

“Nope.”

“Oh my gosh. Am I gonna die?”

“Not really.”

I’m confused.

“It’s hard to explain. It would be easier if I show you.”

I nod. He’s putting his hands on the sides of my head? I try to move back but he stops me.

“Trust on your doctor, please.”

I obey. Then his face starts to disappear replaced by other images, wow they go so fast.. I see many things..what is going on? Familiar faces… wait..are those my real parents?? Yes, they are! What is that? Someone .. killed them!! The governor did it!! Why?? I see people kissing..what?? Then the faster images disappear and the doctor face appears again, I feel something wet on my face, tears?

“Those where your memories.”

“Memories?”

“Important moments of your past life. This is my gift and you’re having my same gift too. No one has to know about it or our lives will be in danger. Please tomorrow after your shift stay a little bit more like today and I’ll be able to show you more.”

I nod shocked during the doctor is leaving the room.
