In the wilderness

There was a beautiful spot just a half a mile away from my family's cottage in the village we live in that was well hidden in the forest, this spot had the most mesmerizing view of a small waterfall with a small area at the base that you could swim in that turned to a river that ran through our village. Such a beautiful serene spot that I loved to get away to for some peace and quiet, a place I could think and a place only my best friend and I visited. I don't think it was a secret but we never saw anyone else from the village there."Today has been a very blah day.....nothing to report on really so I guess that's all for today..... " I wrote in my journal, I had promised myself I would start one since I had a hard time communicating and expressing my feelings. " ugh...I'm so fucking lame" I thought to myself as I looked at what I had managed to write in my journal. " oh well, I tried. Ok. Maybe. Not, but I-" I was interrupted before I could finish the though. " Well hello there rabbit!" A familiar voice said from behind me. It was none other than Matthew Towers my childhood best friend (even though he was 3 years older than me )and the next in line to become the Alpha of Midnight, our pack. "Matthew, you know I hate it when you call me that!!!!" I yelled at him playfully. " You love it little rabbit!" Said Matthew with that charming little side smile of his, he was by far one of the best looking men in our pack, as a matter a fact one of the most beautiful men I had ever seen, but I of course would never dare tell him that, it would only make his ego grow and give him one more reason to tease me. Matthew was tall, tan and had a very nice muscular build that would make any girl gawk at the sight of his bare chest, he had the most beautiful emerald green eyes that had a small ring of sunset orange around his pupil. I had never seen such eyes and was very captivated by them. He also had shoulder length black hair that he would often have up in a pony tail, truth be told I was jealous of his hair, how was it shinier and thicker than mine?? He was perfect, it was kind of annoying.

"Whatever, no I don't. Serena, say it with me. If you want to be more formal make it Serena Walker." I said to him with my best British accent. " why of course your majesty!" Said Matthew while bowing and mocking me with his own British accent.

" Alright cut it out, what's going on? Need something?" I asked curiously since I knew he had been training with the rest of the men that were coming of age and would soon join the Warriors in our pack but not before being properly trained of course, and during that time no one was allowed to interrupt except the elders and they were to have no contact with anyone else in the pack so they could keep their focus unless something important came up. " oh, yes. about that." Said Matthew as the mood changed and he seemed to get a bit nervous and uneasy. I squinted my eyes at him as I leaned my head to the side. " Matt, what's going on?" " The elders are asking for you and me, they have something that they want to discuss with us both." He said very nervously which was not at all like him. " what? They want to meet with me.... That's random, do you have any idea what about?" I asked very confused. Matthew looked at me as he began to blush " nope! Not at all! Be there at 7 tonight, ok see you there!" He said almost yelling which kinda startled me, then turned around and walked off as fast as his feet could carry him without actually running. " huh? What the hell was that?" " Matt get your ass back here!" I yelled at him but it's was too late he was gone. "Ooookay, we'll this should be interesting." I said to my self as a picked up my bag and my journal and took one last glance at the beautiful scenery before me.

"Why am I so nervous." I said to myself quietly as I made my way to the alphas cottage which is where any and all meetings with the elders took place. I stopped just before I got to the door frozen in place, I could not make my self knock and could feel my heart beat in my throat, if I waited any longer I would throw up. I finally got the courage to knock and as I raised my hand the door suddenly opened. " hey little rabbit, is something wrong? I saw you standing out here from the window." Said Matthew. " oh god, kill me please!" I thought to myself . " no, I -I was just deep in thought about something and forgot what I was doing." I said, I could tell by the look on his face he knew I lied. "Oh okay, we'll come in rabbit they are waiting for us in the dinning room."

He said. " I didn't realize it would be a dinner." I said a bit confused " oh um yes, I apologize I guess I left in a hurry earlier and forgot to mention it. This way." Matthew pointed to a long hall that lead to the dinning room. I had been in this cottage many times because this was Matthew's family's home, his father luka towers was the current alpha of our pack and would soon be stepping down so that his son could take over.

To my surprise I see both of my parents sitting at the dinning table along with Matthew's parents and 2 elders as we enter the dinning room. All of a sudden my nerves went wild and I felt like I was going to pass out from how hard my heart started beating. " hello mother, father." I said first " Mrs. towers, alpha luka thank you for having me at your home." I said to Matthew's parents, then turned to the two elders and bowed in recognition of them but didn't greet them verbally because in my panic I forgot their names and I could feel my face turn red from the embarrassment I felt and hoped I didn't offend them. " Serena what a pleasure to see you please have a seat next to Matthew." Said alpha luka. As we set down alpha Luka waved his hand signaling the cook to bring out our plates, every one sat in an awkward silence as the plates were placed in front of everyone, once all the plates were placed we all looked at alpha Luka and he nodded his head to let us know we could begin eating our meal. The meal consisted of seared salmon with roasted veggies and mashed potatoes with a side salad and a homemade loaf of sourdough bread that smelled divine.

I started to eat my salad as one of the elders started speaking. " well alpha Luka should we get on with the reason we are all here and start the discussions." " we will first enjoy our meal then we will talk business and their betrothal." Said alpha Luka. It took me all but one second to realized what he had said, my eyes grew wide. " what did he say.. surely not what I heard." I thought to myself and turned to look at Matthew but he kept his eyes fixated on his plate while subtlety turning a shade of red. I took in a deep breath forgetting I was in the middle of chewing a bite of salad and immediately began chocking. Matthew jumped up from his chair and I put my hand out to stop him motioning to him to sit, I grabbed my glass of water to drink and took a few seconds to compose my self. " I- I'm ok now, thank you." I said." Great, I just completely humiliated myself in front of my parents and the elders not to mention our alpha." I thought to my self, just then I hear Matthew's voice " I am so sorry Serena I meant to tell you, I- I mean ask you but all the courage I had mustered up before going to talk to you completely disappeared as soon as I saw you. I get so nervous when I am around you and become hyper aware of myself." All I could do was sit there in shock so much was happening so fast it's like I got whiplash and forgot how to talk. Just as I started to form a sentence Matthew blurts out. " Serena walker I love you with all my heart, always have. I find it hard to breathe when I'm away from you, you are all I ever think about. The thought of continuing to be without you is agonizing and the thought of you being with or loving someone else is completely unbearable! Will you please make me the happiest man in the world and marry me?"
