What is your opinion?

Lofty

"This is a gigantic (no pun intended) story in a small package. The two main characters, a quite likable pair, embark on a quest that takes the reader through vivid environments. These genuinely feel as magical as they're described, and evoke a sense of wonder that might rival that of the characters themselves. The pair's run-ins with danger, too, are snappily written without compromising too much detail. As with all of Jake's work, this shines in imagery as well as transitions in pacing and suspense when bouts of action or adversity show up. I did find some cracks in the flow, with a few cumbersome sentences here and there, as well as some mild grammatical errors. Rarely immersion-breaking, though. The story ends on a conclusive note, but as a whole it does still feel somewhat condensed, some repressed potential. That said, it doesn't really sacrifice any vibrance in its brevity. It is a lovely story, a light read that won't break your heart. A tiny epic."

An Ambitious Adventure Tale

"Hallowed Souls has a common plot of adventures on a quest for riches, who discover that their mission has far greater implications than the characters were expecting. The novel's first chapter presents a whirlwind of information, at times overwhelming for the reader. Admittedly, there are moments where the narrative feels slightly overburdened with details, suggesting an opportunity for a more seamless blend of exposition and storytelling. The character descriptions, often conveyed in a passive voice, leave a lot of the heavy lifting to the reader. Especially for those unfamiliar with the underlying lore or no knowledge of D&D. This practice can be viewed as also inviting readers to engage more actively with the text, but it can take you out of the work instead of immersing you more. A touch of clarity and active description could further enhance these portrayals, making the characters more vivid and relatable. Likewise some passages in the later chapters, do exhibit a certain roughness in their flow, often time reading rather clunky in what they are trying to describe. A thorough proofreading and some structural reorganization could elevate "Hallow Souls," allowing for a more polished and compelling read. Expanding the story into more chapters would provide valuable space to delve into the backgrounds and motivations of its characters, further deepening the reader's connection to the narrative. Overall, "Hallowed Souls" is a story with much promise, brimming with potential and imagination, awaiting just a bit of fine-tuning to truly shine. "
