Chapter 1
“Stop!” Yelled Stacey, “You do this every time!” Mikeal rolled his eyes and paced around the room.
“Well, maybe it’s for the best this time!” He raised his voice, which made Stacey nervous for what was coming next.
Mikeal was tall, strong, and intimidating. He had dark black hair and brown eyes. His hair was spikey and everywhere which was a result of just getting out of bed.
Stacey was smaller. She had light blonde hair, parted down the middle. “We will talk about this when I get out of the shower.”
He was still in his blue and white pyjamas. Stacey wore denim shorts and a white shirt. As she heard the shower water running, she hurried over to her phone.
She pulled up her best friends contact. “I think it’s over this time.” Stacey typed and read it over and over before sending it.
After a moment of reading the text a few times she heard the shower water had stopped. She quickly pressed send and placed the phone in its previous spot.
After a minute since the shower had stopped Mikeal yelled out, “Could you pass me my clothes off of the bed?” Stacey walked over and grabbed the clothes before she slightly opened the door. She had dropped them an arm’s length into the bathroom.
She paced the room while Mikeal got dressed. She heard the click of the door handle and jumped. Her heart started racing. “What if this does end?” She thought, “Where would I go?” Her phone beeped. She went to grab it, but Mikeal got there first.
When Mikeal grabbed the phone, he read out the text. “It’s for the best.” Her best friend piper sent. It was at that moment that she knew it was official. He opened the unlocked phone and read the previous messages.
“We are done.” He said softly, “Grab your things and leave.” He didn’t take his eyes off of the phone. Stacey hadn’t moved.
“Now!” He raised his voice. Stacey had quickly grabbed a few pairs of clothes and shoved them in a small blue bag. She snatched the phone out of his hand and walked towards the door. “Oh, and by the way next time you call to say you want me back…”
“Leave!” She got cut off before she finished.
She didn’t bother looking back when she walked out of the door she slammed. She unlocked the phone in her hand and called Piper. She walked down the corridor for the last time, avoiding eye contacts with her exes neighbours who must’ve heard.
By the time she got to the elevator Piper had finally picked up. “Hello, sorry did I interrupt you?” Stacey asked. Piper sighed into the phone.
“No, you didn’t, you just got me out of something with my parents. Thank god.” They both laughed into the phone.
“Well, I have some news,” Stacey pressed car park on the elevator. “Mikeal and I just broke up, for the last time. I’m not going back there. But now I don’t have anywhere to stay.”
The elevator bell dinged. She walked out of the elevator and walked over to her car. “Come over to my place.” Piper squealed excitedly.
“Won’t your parents mind?”
Piper scoffed, “I’ll ask them now. They love you.” Stacey laughed quietly into the phone as she hopped into her black Hyundai Accent. “Hey mum, dad? Can Stacey come over for a few days?”
“Of course, she can! She can stay for as long as she likes.”
“Here that?” The car engine starts, Stacey waited for her phone to connect into the car speakers. “Is it all right if I come by now?”
“Of course!” Piper replied, “I better clean my room a bit before you get here though.” They both started to laugh into the phone.
“I’ll be there soon” The phone hung up and Stacey drove out of the garage for the last time. On the way she stopped at a small coffee shop to get coffee for everyone.
It didn’t take long after that to get to pipers house. She parked on the street and grabbed the coffees out if the car and headed inside.
She knocked on the door and waited. Pipers mum answered the door a minute later. “Stacey darling, so good to see you.” She gave her a big hug. “You didn’t have to get coffee’s!”
“It’s the least I can do,” She smiled. They went inside and sat down at the table. “Piper! Stacey’s here!” Her mum yelled with no response, “She brought coffee!”
It didn’t take her long after that to get from her room to the table. “Come here.” Piper said walking towards Stacey with her arms out. They hugged for a minute before returning back to their coffees.
“Are your bags in your car still?” Piper asked while taking a sip of her coffee. Stacey nodded. “I’ll help you bring them up.” They headed to the car and grabbed a few bags each. “That’s all of them.”
They go back into the house and upstairs to Pipers bedroom where they place all the bags. “I would offer for your to go into the spare bedroom, but we still haven’t fully unpacked it since we moved in.”
“All good, it’s more like our sleepovers when we were kids if we do it this way.” Piper nods and giggles to herself.
BEEP
They were interrupted by the ringtone of Stacey’s phone.
FROM MIKEAL: Babe, I’m sorry for what I did.
“Its from Mikeal.” Stacey says out loud with an unwelcoming look on her face.
“What did he say?”
“He says he’s sorry for what he did.”
“What did he do?” Piper asked sympathetically.
“He… He did a lot. He would... Abuse me. Verbally and physically. He would punch the wall next to my head. He would say it would be me next if I did anything like that again."
“Oh god.”
“Yeah.”
Stacey looks at the ground at the unpacked suitcases of hers, thinking about the times she was with him.
“We did have some good times though.” She said with a smile.
