Prologue
Saanvi was furious. No, furious wasn’t the suitable word for the situation she was in but was almost about to call the cops and arrest the guy who was a heartthrob for so many girls in the city. She looked at him with so much hatred in her eyes that he felt guilty for picking her up directly from her classes. She crossed her legs, and then her arms across her chest and wondered what she had been thinking ever since he brought her to the restaurant.
“What do you want? And why did you kidnap me and bring me here?” At the word ‘kidnap,’ almost everyone around them turned towards them and Saatvik gulped at the stares he was receiving.
“I didn’t kidnap you, I picked you up from your classes,” Saatvik explained, and sighed in relief when the people around turned back to whatever they were doing.
Saanvi kept looking at her watch, and she grumbled in annoyance when she noticed that the guy in front of her would be the reason why her timetable for the day would be ruined. She glared at him and said,
“Look, whatever you wanted to tell me, just spit it out. I have other things to do and this is ruining my timetable.”
“Why don’t we order something first? I’m sure you’ve had nothing to eat for hours, right?” Saatvik suggested, and at that moment her stomach grumbled as if to answer on her behalf.
She cleared her throat and looked at the menu, and her eyes widened at the prices mentioned. She mentally calculated the money she had with her when Saatvik said, “This one will be on me. Don’t worry about the money.”
She slowly nodded and still ordered the cheapest thing on the menu. Saatvik ordered his usual as he was a regular at the restaurant, and while they were waiting for their order to come, they stared at the plates in front of them.
In order to diffuse the awkwardness between them, Saatvik cleared his throat and said, “You were asking why I brought you here, right?”
“Yes,” she replied, looking him right in the eyes.
It wasn’t a lie that she felt weird around him ever since they first met at the stadium, but their meetings ever since were not pleasant at all. Saanvi was on the verge of stopping the cable network at home after she heard the news saying that they were dating. He, of all the guys she had met.
Yes, they met or rather bumped into each other quite a few times, but this meeting felt different.
Saatvik took a deep breath to finally ask what had left him sleepless most nights. In a faint voice, barely audible, he asked, “Will you be my girlfriend?”
There was a pin-drop silence for a few minutes, during which Saanvi looked at him while various emotions played across her face. Confusion at first, which changed into anger, which turned back to confusion.
“What?” she asked, just to confirm what she had just heard.
“I want you to be my girlfriend,” he said again, but with more confidence this time.
Yes, he was scared of getting rejected the moment he said it out loud, but he gave it a shot nevertheless.
“You want me to be your girlfriend?” she repeated again, but there wasn’t any hint of anger in her voice.
Just as he was about to reply, the waiter came with their dishes. Before the conversation, both of them were famished and thought that food would remove the tension between them; but after the conversation they had, neither of them had any appetite.
“Why me?” she asked while mentally praying that he hadn’t fallen for her because if he had, she would refuse to date him. Not because she wasn’t into guys or anything like that, but she just wasn’t interested in dating at the moment. Especially when she was still confused about her own future.
Saanvi Meshram had only one goal throughout her life: she would study hard and pursue a job with a stable income. That’s it. The plan was perfect for her because she had no friends, no distractions, and it was easy as pie for her to crack the government exam. That was the plan until she crossed paths with Saatvik Sardesai.
Saatvik Sardesai was the city’s heartthrob. Ever since he got selected for the Indian cricket team, girls have been going crazy over him for many reasons. People might think that he got the spot because of his family’s reputation, but he knew he had worked hard for it. Though it also meant that the paparazzi followed him a lot and he got trolled for a lot of things. But everything has changed for the good ever since his paths crossed with Saanvi. It may have been love at first sight for him, but he knew that she despised him a lot, just for a minor mistake.
It would be interesting to see them together because of the little game of fate.
