5/5 Glitters

""Tribulations of A Clown" by Professorjpj is an absolute gem in the realm of short stories. It's not just another tale about the carnival life; it's a rollercoaster of emotions, expertly interwoven with humor that keeps you engaged from start to finish. What makes this story stand out is the author's skill in capturing the contrasting elements of the carnival experience – from the thrill to the inherent sadness. The comedic genius shines through, especially in the depiction of the Master Clown. The strategic hustling of unsuspecting Chad-like boyfriends adds a layer of humor that's not only entertaining but also thought-provoking. The author brilliantly highlights the carnival's economic intricacies, making us chuckle while contemplating the carnival's business tactics. However, the true heart of the story lies in the perspective of Johnny D. As the reader's surrogate, Johnny D navigates the carnival's world, allowing us to witness its eccentricities through his eyes. The narrative takes an unexpected turn with Randall's story, a touching portrayal that resonates on a deeper emotional level. The unfortunate assault on Randall serves as a poignant reminder of the harsh realities faced by those who bring joy to others. The author's ability to evoke genuine emotions is commendable. Randall's ordeal stirred a range of feelings, from anger at the perpetrators to empathy for the victim. It's a testament to the power of storytelling when a short piece can elicit such a strong emotional response. In its brevity, "Tribulations of A Clown" manages to deliver a sweet yet impactful narrative. The emotional resonance lingers, prompting a well-deserved 5/5 Glitters. Professorjpj has crafted a story that not only tickles your funny bone but also tugs at your heartstrings, leaving a lasting impression on readers fortunate enough to experience this carnival of emotions."

Brilliant cinematic writing

"The writer is brilliant. Some of the best writing i've seen in a long time. I was transported to the circus, it's smells and sounds. The juxtaposition between so-called crazy and "normal" will leave every reader questioning which group they belong to. BRAVO"

"Amazing story and brilliant writing! The carnival setting makes me feel nostalgic as I’ve always loved the fair, and I’ve also found the carnie lifestyle to be quite fascinating too. I found this story to be very thrilling, and the final chapter that uncovers the tragedy of the clown was very suspenseful. If you enjoyed America The Poor: A Wanderer’s Tale, or any of professorjpj’s other short stories, you will definitely enjoy this one, because he never fails to deliver."
