Chapter 1
"Hey! Stop!"
The sound of fast footsteps could be heard through several houses. Two men in army-like uniforms shouted at the person they were chasing. His movements were so skillful that he was able to leap over high walls, climb up poles, and hang from the dangling ropes around him. Not once did he pay attention to the shouts of the two men chasing him as he continued to speed up his run.
Shit, cursed one of the men in uniform. How can he run so fast?
The man turned his head to his partner, who was already exhausted. He gritted his teeth when the person they were chasing was out of their sight.
Judging by his body, it's obvious we have an advantage over him, he thought. But I didn't expect him to have such amazing stamina. Who exactly is he?
"Captain, what should we do?" asked his partner, panting with exhaustion. "We've been chasing him for a while, but he always manages to escape. If we keep this up, we'll die of exhaustion."
"You think I don't know, huh?!" snapped the man his partner called Captain. "Why don't you think of another way to catch him instead? Hmm?"
"Huh? Me, Captain? I-I don't-"
"You can't? Then, for God's sake, just concentrate on your running and catch that bastard!"
"Yes, sir!"
His partner, fearing the wrath of his captain, immediately quickened his pace. Then Captain saw his target running toward an alley. He smiled when he realized where his target had gone.
Gotcha. You can't run from me this time.
"Pete, get ready to catch him!" yelled Captain.
"Yes, sir!"
They sped up and turned into the alley where their target had disappeared. But...
"Huh?"
They looked around the alley, but couldn't find the person they were chasing. There was no one in the alley but the two of them.
"Dammit!" the captain cursed as he punched the wall hard.
How? It's obvious he entered this alley earlier. Then where did he go? He thought angrily. I don't know who this person is. But one thing I can be sure of, he's dangerous. And if he can escape, then the kingdom -
"Well, he really got away this time, huh?"
The words came from someone not far from them. The owner of the cheerful voice entered the alley, looking around in awe. Then he turned his head to Captain.
"Oh, Captain! Thank you for your hard work," he greeted cheerfully. "Well, even though we lost him, the important thing is that we did our best. I'll make a report to our superiors-"
His sentence was cut short when Captain's hand grabbed him by the collar and slammed him hard against the wall.
"Where the hell have you been, Darris?" the captain growled. "You're really not helping with this arrest! And you dare to appear before me now! What exactly have you been doing, Vice Captain Darris?"
