The Beginning

I was born into the Silver Crest pack. Since birth daddy had said that I was destined for great things. I was a fully black wolf, a trait that was unheard of in the females of any pack. Everyone was convinced it had some kind of great meaning; who am I to tell them that they're wrong?! My name is Amara and this is my story.

My daddy is the beta of our pack, he takes his role very seriously and has served faithfully under our Alpha for over 30 years. Today a new alpha is appointed, Alpha Draven's son Derrek will be taking over the position. Usually, this happens because the current Alpha died in some terrible dispute over land or resources but we are a peaceful pack. Alpha Draven has ruled over our territory with little trouble for a long time and has decided to step down as his son Derrek is ready to make his mark on Silver Crest.

I grew up with Derrek, he was a couple of years older than me in school. Now I don't want to talk smack about our next Alpha and I'm sure he's all mature after his time away at Alpha camp but he was a bit of an a**hole in high school. He had all the she-wolves rubbing up against him constantly and he treated them like dirt. We spoke a couple of times, he would stop me at my locker and gently play with my hair whilst telling me all about how fantastic he was. Doesn't he know that women like to be asked about themselves?! Not spoken at for a solid 20 mins, I definitely didn't need to know how much he benched or whatever it was he would drone on about. Ok so my opinion on Derrek isn't too great but he's been away for the past two years honing his skills at Alpha camp, learning how to be less of an ass I presume.

The whole pack is crammed into a clearing waiting for Derrek to arrive. Everyone glances around nervously desperate to get a glimpse of the new Alpha. I have a nice little spot at the front of the crowd due to my superior rank (I mean Beta's daughter has to get some perks). We all wear white as is required for the ceremony. I can imagine how I look, all pale skin with long dark hair and azure blue eyes in a flowy white dress... a gothic wedding look for sure. Alpha Draven and the council members stand on a pedestal at the head of the clearing. I hear the ceremonial drums, Derrek must be on his way! The crowd gently parts as our new, young Alpha walks through the middle. Oh boy, what did they feed him at Alpha camp?! Derrek doesn't look like a boy anymore, he looks like a man. His 6ft 5 frame casts a large shadow in the moonlight. His green eyes once boyish and innocent are filled with purpose. His dirty blonde hair is perfectly cut short with a little moisture as if he just washed it. And his body... good God his body... he could give Magic Mike a major run for his money!

My body fires up and I can't help but squeeze my legs a little tighter as he walks on by. Did he glance at me?... probably not, just a bit of wishful thinking. A harsh silence settles over the pack as Derrek takes his place next to his father. Luna Alexandra, Derrek's mother smiles at me from across the clearing. I smile back and turn forward to focus on the ceremony. The councilman take a vote on allowing Derrek to proceed his father, all vote yes as expected. Derrek takes the vows without skipping a beat and we all watch in awe as Draven bows down to his own son. Just like that, its all over. I can't wait for the afterparty; tequila shots on me everybody. Derrek clears his throat and silence erupts again. "There is one more announcement to make today, I have chosen your Luna, the next mother of this pack. Amara Strong, please come join me."

Well shit... wheres that tequila when you need it.
